How is Tildes doing?
I haven't been around here in a few months. Glad there's still some presence. What are your thoughts on the site overall now?

I'm not sure what to make of this. I'd really like to hear others' experiences as well.
Without getting into too much detail in the OP, I find myself constantly needing to reflect upon my actions due to things that transpire in my group's weekly D&D sessions. I need to constantly examine and readjust my behavior so that our group can survive.
I don't mean "survive" as in our characters, nor reflect upon my character's actions. I mean my own. The way I express myself to others. The lack of attention I have given to my teammates when they narrate their dazzling combat maneuvers. The visible disinterest in an RP dialogue that doesn't involve my character which makes my friends uncomfortable and unable to enjoy themselves. The offhand comments I make about a character, or the DM, that has a huge impact on the player (it's easy to get hurt when you put your heart into building a world or a hero and someone slights that). The time I knocked my friend's character unconscious to beat the bad guys, which resulted in him sitting there for multiple turns just watching us play. All of these things have had a real, out-of-character impact on us as a group, and have caused major conflicts.
Our group is still going strong. We are working hard on being good friends to one another. But we're all really putting our heart into this game and it's so easy to hurt one another. It's been teaching me so much about being a patient, respectful, and "honorable" human being. I'm shocked, honestly. I hope I haven't hurt my friends too much on the road to this path.
How about you, Tilders? Has D&D just been a game to you, or have you also found an avenue for personal growth?
I stopped checking the site so regularly, and as tends to happen with not-yet-solidified habits, I fell off the Tildes wagon for a bit.
What interesting updates, news, changes, drama, or discussions would you say has highlighted the past two months?
Thanks!
Hey GallowBoob. So interesting to hear from you here. What an interesting phenomenon this is, really. So many conflicting things going on here. Allow me to spitball...
On the one hand, to many people you represent one of the worst parts of Reddit -- a part which many have come here to avoid. So it's worrisome to many to see you here.
On the other hand, you're still just another human being. You've put up your picture; we know your face. You have some active and interesting communities (I enjoy r/BPT). It's not right to be hostile.
On the other hand, it's just a Hello post -- why is this so damn special? On the other hand, it's a hello from fucking GallowBoob, who is... (and we're going full circle here).
I disagree with the fella who said "your community" is confrontational. I'd be more worried to hear GallowBoob calling it "our community". It's cool to see you here saying hello -- and perhaps give us feedback on how to make it not as easily abusable as Reddit, since you're essentially the expert in abusing Reddit's karma system.
Anyways -- welcome! Thanks for stopping by. Beer's in the the fridge, chips are on the the table.
So it's totally cool for me to make lynching jokes then, right, cause it's just a joke man lighten up! Right?
No. Of course not.
Hey friend... I know you mean well but right now the Tildes news feed is >50% your posts. I think this might be an interesting feature for Demios to consider capping. I know Gallowboob made his fame like that... mass reposting all day and deleting any that didn't get popular. Not that you're trying to Gallowboob us, but this made me realize how easy it would be to do here.
Older comments on Reddit are definitely favored. Try posting nonsense into an early thread. You'll easily get 20% of the OPs count.
tbh i dont get why people made such a fuss about it. the much, much bigger problem was between whether or not you'd visit the comment link for context and have it sit in your inbox.
its cool you guys did that, but can we please automark upon clicking on the Link button next?
Sorry, that was point I was trying to make. The idea of banning memes is ridiculous, and it's unbelievable the media is playing that way.
The very idea is so sensationalist and ridiculous. I can't believe it is getting any media credibility recognition (edit) as such.
What, are they going to ban text on images? Fine... meme was originally a coinage for a cultural reproduction that multiplies like genes. "Memes" are literally how culture spreads through society.
When I see "ban memes" I think "attempt to suppress culture", (edited) and just to clarify, it's ridiculous that the media is portraying it as such.
Agreed... that's already an irksome trend, haha. Hard to read, especially since I didn't know how to pronounce tilde before I joined this site and looked it up.
I want a "get to know the admins" thread. I keep getting surprised when I learn that one of the common faces I see is someone running the show.
Like I said, I'm not defending the guy. I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about banning him.
The problem is: what about us? What are we supposed to take away from this?
This post was made with the apparent intention of showing us what not to do, but it doesn't actually show us.
Don't worry. I think the recent ban has people a little more tense than they should be. It's the same reason I don't like posting on r/wholesomememes. But I guess it's much better than the alternatives.
James really is a beautiful and fascinating thinker. All the pragmatists are. I chose to name him because he's most accessible, I think.
Charles Sanders Pierce (that's a fun name isnt it? pronounced purse) was the father of pragmatism, and Dewey/James followed. Pierce focused on the physical properties of things. One thing he wrote that really stuck with me was his conception of thirdness. Firstness was raw perception. Secondness was mental representation. Thirdness was signs. That is to say, the communication between entities, whether it be as grand as language, or as simple as the rustling of leaves signifying to an ant that it's about to fall. Thirdness was a real, worldly thing that actually exists, and yet it depends on relations and interpretations to comprehend. Relationships that solipstic ideas like the OP seek to deny.
I think that's why I get so frustrated with ideas like this post. It feels like it reduces all of the complexities of existence down to, "What if we're all, like, a computer program maaaan? Whoa..." It just doesn't do our real reality justice, with all the horrors and glory of our shared fate.
I suppose that's a good point. I can't really have it both ways, and say this discussion is both pointless and harmful, can I?
I wound say, however, that it is pointless at best and toxic at worst, at least when an admonitory voice is absent.
But my problem with this decision comes down to a lack of clarity in the rules. This sort of highlights my point: now I'm hearing it's about editing posts? I thought that was just a side note. I'm not sure if it's as simple as that, and the confusion is problematic.
Looks like it's happening again with the GallowBoob post. People have some idea of what this site ~is~ (should be) and they fiercely try to implement that.
