I would love to read more about vacationers vs travelers, let me know if you find where you read that. I think I understand the different but would be interested to see how the sources defines them.

Friends like that, are people you chose to stick with because you enjoy their company and they enjoy yours. Maybe it feels like solo travel because you get to be more fully “you.”

I would say it only feels like the tropiest because it popularized many tropes we see now in fantasy novels. While there may have been similar books attempting to exploring similar areas of fantasy, I think Ursula was one of the first to popularize and legitimize the blending of fantasy with coming of age, magic schools (like you mentioned), and many other themes that may give away more of the story.

This is very cool! I’m the opposite. I love traveling but don’t like doing it alone. I love connecting with someone through change and sharing a new memory together.

That being said I’m not a picky traveler. I’m down for anything and everything, I just love the adventure and the newness. I’m fascinated by what others love and won’t say no to an idea.

Have you travelled with a small group or single person? I find it to be very bonding while still allows you to explore aspects of yourself. Now that you are learning more freedoms and truths of who you are, you may enjoy this type of travel with the ability to say, lI’ll just do this day alone and catch up dinner.” Or something similar to that.

I used to deal with a lot of panic attacks. I spent a few month crying every day feeing like it would never end. A lot of them stemmed from overwork, hopeless feelings of the future, and overstimulation. I agree with earlier posters discussing getting professional help and going on walks, but what really turned it around for me was leaving social media.

It’s either a highlight reel of someone’s life or someone trying to sell you something (often both). Many are also designed to hijack your dopamine receptors to release enough reward to make you feel good but not enough to put down what you are doing. It’s exhausting chemically for your brain to constantly use social media.

After a while of being off those platforms I realized I was nobody important (and most like never will be) and that was so freeing. I started investing in the friendships around me without feeling like I needed to capture the moment for others, or wanting a digital reward. Bed time is time to read or connect with some in real life. I also got back 30min-1hr of my daily life. That’s time to workout and be still and quiet (meditate if you will).

Anyways all that to say, you will get through this. You will start having days where you won’t cry. It’ll be slow but one day you’ll look back and realize you haven’t cried for a month. Most of those days were good. Some great, some bad, but mostly good. And as you have seen from the comments you aren’t alone in these struggles. Keep us updated!

Edit: I would also like to say my journey was medicine free as my imbalance have been managed with CBT. If you need medicine don’t shy away from it, it can be amazing and life changing. Get 2nd opinions and don’t fret if the dosage takes some time to get right.

Onboarding just can't look the same as it used to and a lot of people/companies are not adapting to this new challenge. To approach onboarding digitally in the same way as in person is bound to fail.

Imo there needs to be time to be "near" someone digitally to help the team/onboarding team member understand personalities and relationships. That could mean everyone works on video for 1 hour a day. So there is a time where there is easy access to speak up and ask questions without feeling like you are really bothering someone. Or, if the team is too big assign a partner (or rotating partners) to the onboardee so they have someone to work with and ask questions. I'm just throwing out ideas, but it feels like the old guard is so reluctant to try new things and then they go "See! Trying nothing didn't work, back to the office."

I also like AirBNBs approach to remote work. Build connections in person and maintain them online. While this may not help in your first week, but it's a point in time to look forward to in meeting face to face with people to help grow connections. https://news.airbnb.com/airbnbs-design-to-live-and-work-anywhere/

For me a lot of these issues have to do with bots. Once there was a pattern, especially in the comments, that got easy upvotes every single thread would have a bots spamming to get karma. I think...

Puns/text memes (maybe 1-3 really good ones per thread...maybe we need a punny tag, and whichever comments get the most punny tags get to stay up, up to a max of 3...And you could opt out by blocking the tag)

I honestly did not make that correlation. This is a newer username (i've moved all my naming conventions to knights of the round table, Arthur, Lancelot, Gawain, Parzival, Geraint, etc...). I did enjoy that book though even if it isn't the best written piece of literature.

I just found that site a few days ago and love the simple design and execution.
