Nice of you to provide the method you used and the line of argument sounds coherent too, so I believe, based on your answer and the answers of others here, my question is solved for now.

I also found the following from a user on Reddit called "babushiledet"

If someone redirects your hijacked browser you can be sure they are getting a cut of the ad revenue yahoo generated from the hijacked search.
So any impressions of ads and click through ads served from the yahoo search page will generate ad revenue to yahoo (from advertisers paying yahoo to promote them)

It's also what I assumed to be possible, because why would they send you to Yahoo out of all places otherwise?

    Thanks. :)

I think that's also why 0xSim mentioned to not install stuff you don't ABSOLUTELY need. Maybe preventing auto-updates where you can could also help. It's much better advice than users would think.

For now I will just tell them to keep an eye on their accounts etc.

Apart from explaining people that "not clicking on links" includes flashy buttons, what should I tell them to do/not do to avoid situations like these? To be honest I wonder if there's anything I forget to mention or I'm just bad at helping them protect themselves. ^^'

Thanks though, I should've provided that info too. I just want to make sure if they have a compromised system or not, because they don't want to reset their system etc.

    Hey,

so recently a family member accidentally downloaded a shady browser extension called: "Easy Print" on Firefox. 30k downloads, no ratings, weird "offical" website and installed accidentally trying to buy tickets. I assume it showed something along the lines of: "Buy ticket now" and they just clicked on it (being overall inexperieced with security). Only extension installed was uBlock until then.

I won't post a link just in case, but you can easily find it by googling: "Easy Print Firefox" or "Easy Print App" for their website.

What makes this weirder is that they change the default search engine to Yahoo, which for me was always a red flag for a hijacked browser.

I uninstalled it, but am concerned that they installed something like a keylogger along with it.

Can anyone help me what this is and, especially, how I can properly teach them the basics of internet safety? Not the first time their PC/browser was filled with unwanted stuff...

    Thank you and best regards!

Nice brief read though. The spider-legs actually caught me off-guard at how true that take is, as I have noticed it before, but never really "thought" about it that much.

    Now I can't unsee how it's no longer a goat-horse, but a wigglylegs goat-horse. :D

I do like Torrent as well though. It's one of the few horses in games I enjoy actually using.

Minecraft Beta(!) 1.7.3. Some people believe this to be the last version to stay true to the original development goal. No matter how often I tried playing the newest versions, I always ended up not enjoying it without more players. Recently picked up 1.7.3 again and I now understand again why I loved the old versions so much. It's more relaxed, straight forward and creativity oriented than the newer versions and feels much more unique too.

If that is a bit too "limiting" I recommend you to try the Better Than Adventure Mod ! I actually play with this mod installed through MultiMC and it's a lot of fun!

A second idea is Mist Survival, but I haven't played much of it, although it fits the need for singleplayer PvE games and has been updated for years now.

I know this sounds weird, but for me it was Amnesia: The Bunker. I wasn't sure in the beginning how much of a map we would get (especially when), so I printed the map (before you unlock the other parts of the map), added a map key and started noting where certain items were that I couldn't bring, where the holes for the monsters were etc. (I even outlined every room). Later I didn't really need it that much, however it was a lot of fun to do so I continued doing it.

So my entire first playthrough of this horror game was build a lot on strategy, which helped to immerse myself much more than without a map. It's something that absolutely helps with staying immersed and adding some "spice".

Thank you for providing the essay. It's gonna be useful when explaining to people why they don't need to overspend on many things they buy (especially, oh especially, any hardware ever).

Went there with my family by car. It's not too far from where I live.

Overall it was an interesting experience, because I normally don't go to conventions or so. Unfortunately we didn't really play that much, because we walked around a lot... :D

One of the games I've played and really liked was Shape Invaders. Very simple, but engaging. It was a lot of fun! Another one is "If it fits" from Jolly Dutch, which was kinda complicated, but also pretty cool (think about buying it when it comes out).

A game I actually bought was Paco Sako. A chess variant that is actually a ton of fun and really turns the game on its head. I love chess in general, so the buy was a no-brainer, haha. Especially since the guy who explained it to me was convincing too (he explained it really well).

We then looked around a lot and eventually also played Timeline Twist, which is a rather basic, but nonetheless fun game (I enjoy basic/casual games a lot if they're not too luck based).

What I didn't like is how expensive it was to enter. We also forgot to take something to drink with us... big mistake! The drinks there were terribly overpriced.

Didn't really "meet" anyone. I did play one round of Shape Invaders against a guy from Thailand though.

My sister went there before us too and bought a few cool games (can't remember the names, but played them at home). She also bought a starter kit for Dungeons and Dragons, which means that's what I will soon have to learn. :P

Boats on packed ice are best (unrelated to Penguin), also much easier to get than elytras which many people won't even get considering there's still a ton of people who have never beaten the Ender Dragon.

Then, again, the boat is arguably the best item in the game (vid is about speedrunning, but also mentions its use in general; and it's very true imo): https://youtu.be/07WUv-Pn2iM?si=gjPGoYlMQlApey7Z

Keep in mind I might not know if the boat was nerfed now or so. Since a long time I almost only play on modded beta versions (where the boat isn't even that good tho, haha). Just thought it could be interesting to see.

Honestly, I like to do things personally.

I know many suggested talking to your wife first. Maybe do that, but ask her how you should handle the situation with your SIL instead and don't ask your wife to talk with her or so.

Then take your SIL aside (don't be the guy who complains about her in front of her family/acquaintances) and calmly tell her that you found it unfair that she invited someone without asking you and you would appreciate better communication between you and her. To calm down the situation, you could maybe add that you're not resentful or so. Just be nice about it. If she reacts confused or gives you a testy reply, stay calm and tell her you don't want to be on bad terms with her, it's just about proper communication.

If your wife tells you to handle things differently from what I would do though, do that. She knows her, I don't.

You're not wrong. Communication is extremely important in such situations.

Daily Mail is a typical tabloid-newspaper like The Sun or BILD. Their reports are often one-sided, especially in more political articles.

    One example regarding Africa-China relations

Another example (focus on the used language): How China's taking over Africa, and why the west should be VERY worried

    The first one in particular.

I have looked into how western media portrays Africa-China (also Angola-China) relations half a year ago. That's why I chose these examples. Keep in mind that there's others depicting China similarly based on incorrect information. Here it's more about the overall style of the articles (language and structure).

About the article you posted: It's of course not as extreme as the aforementioned ones. My intention is to show what he meant by listing examples.
