What I liked about Midnight Mass is that it wasn't predictable (for the most part). That's the thing about it that made me like it so much and left an impression, so maybe it's the same thing for you.

With that in mind I have two suggestions that are absolutely nothing like Midnight Mass, but were refreshing in how different they were.

The Resort, on Peacock: ultimately ended absolutely nowhere near where I thought it was going based on how it started. Even if you watch the trailer you won't get this impression. I've been trying to get friends to watch it because I really want to discuss it with people, because it stuck with me.

Ted Lasso, on Apple: Took all the rules of a TV show and threw them out the window. Especially season 1 is just amazingly refreshing to watch. Who needs conflict when you can just be happy?

Edit: I wrote this having skipped the part where you mention you just use Netflix. Sorry about that. I just finished Bodies on Netflix. That was super fun and weird and I would recommend it, but it didn't quite stick with me the same way the other three did.

I loved Fall. The first book was a little too slow for my taste, but I do appreciate it as well. I didn't like the Endymion books (the most interesting things were never followed up on and the books ultimately felt pointless). So I tell people just to read the two Hyperion books and ignore the Endymion books.

Clearly this has been going on for a while, since there was that other famous freeze a couple months ago. Though I don't know how quickly this all came on before that. I imagine that he's not exactly keeping himself in office. It's more like he has become a puppet and is being coreced to stay in power as long as possible. But who knows.

When you're this far gone is doesn't matter how old or young you are, you don't have any right to be dictating anyone's future.

Yes. Thank you. I love Chuck so much but I hate that ending. It was completely unnecessary.

Kind of sounds like my only partially ironic, constant arguments that Con Air is the greatest action movie ever made. I feel like I would like to read one of your essays.

Yes! I love hearing the Doom sound effects still! I believe most of them were stock when Doom used them (like the imp death/camel sound), but Doom definitely made them memorable.

Haha, I love the rusty hatch opening/closing sound because it is ubiquitous in Stargate SG-1. The characters will just be walking through the halls talking and you'll hear it in the distance. It's so overused that it's hilarious, like the Whilhelm scream. I like to imagine the creators are having fun with it.

I feel like the A-Team with Bradley Cooper is kinda the same way. I absolutely love it, but it seems to be mostly forgotten now.

Yes, a Gladiator sequel is in production currently. I believe it may be delayed by the writer/actor strikes though.

I have the same worry about Gladiator, which is my favorite movie of all time. I’ve worried about the sequel every time they’ve brought it up for the last 20 years, and now it’s finally coming to fruition.

I live for Doom. Doom and Doom II and their mods seem to be really popular on this thread, so I would like to recommend Doom (2016) to anyone here who hasn't played it yet. It has its own unique presence, yet is Doom through and through. It's a fantastic, modern Doom, for anyone who wants to just run and gun.

I can't quite recommend Doom Eternal the same way. They tried tying it more to OG Doom in unnecessary ways, while also going overboard in the gameplay and the story. It's fun, but doesn't feel as much like Doom.
