I would be excited to see a sequel, though I'm not entirely sure where they could go for a sequel, as I feel to stay true to the series' name they'd have to put a character in another time loop which isn't exactly treading new ground. Maybe putting Emily Blunt's character in a time loop this time?

I'd expect anything else in the universe to involve different people, but that doesn't sound like Emily Blunt's goal.

Yeah, the movie was pretty well marketed but there was a real confusion about the title. I remember talking about it with people at work who all seemed confused by the title (I think they represent the general audience pretty well since they weren't movie buffs). I wrote it off because it seemed mediocre, partly because of the confusing marketing.
What a pleasant surprise it was when I finally saw it.

Pass. Great movie. Leave well enough alone. Go invest in a different IP and give TC the reigns from behind the scenes. I want his work to continue, but this can’t last forever… right?

I feel like it's better as a single movie than trying to turn it into a franchise when there's not really a good place to take the story. That being said, I'd definitely watch a sequel. I think a more interesting story might be a prequel about Blunt's character, but they probably talked too much about her origins in the first movie.
I thought it was good until the very end and Tom Cruise's character got time jumped back before it his previous time jumps. It really cheapened his sacrifice.

I guess you are just saying that the movie could show that from her perspective?

It could be explored either by showcasing her first loop, as per the plot point you're referring to and making it a prequel. Or putting her into another loop after the events of the first movie where the aliens return.
Hmm a prequel would be interesting, because Tom Cruise's character would be completely absent from it, and it would have a tragic ending - she doesn't get to save the world. I wonder if they could...

I wonder if they could do something with two timelines for her, part prequel, part sequel though
(although my opinion is this movie was perfect and needs no addition to it)

As others have said though I’m not sure where they’d manage to go with a sequel and it’s maybe best left alone.
Would a sequel be good though? I kind of doubt it. If they bring the mimics back for a redo of the original plot that sounds boring. Maybe Earth would go looking for the aliens or their homeworld,...

The only idea I can think of that might be interesting would be humans studying and figuring out the mimics' time abilities, then a plot based on what we do with that discovery.

They (now its Cruise guiding Blunt) have to make sure the battle ends in the same way as before, so the events of the first film can still happen.
I'd rather just see the battle of Verdun and how Emily Blunt's character dealt with the powers and how she became the Angle of Verdun. I mean does Tom Cruise need to be in it at all?

No, not necessary. But sometimes, the problem with pure prequels (IMO) is that there is nothing at stake, because you know it's going to play out. I mean, you basically always know the good guys...

I mean, you basically always know the good guys will win. But still.
I'd argue no one went into Edge of Tomorrow thinking the aliens were going to win. Virtually every movie like this has to have a happy ending where the humans win.

Let's use The Hobbit as an example, even though we've seen LOTR and we know Bilbo obviously survives, we do not know how the trilogy will conclude unless you've read the books. As I'm writing this I realize the same would apply to a prequel to Edge of Tomorrow as well, as we don't know much more than Emily Blunt kicked ass due to time travel and won.
If we're still ripping off manga/animes there was one that went under the radar because of Disney+ called Summer Time Rendering which could provide a twist on the original movie's gimmick....

Moderate spoilers
Where the protagonist is trying to solve the mystery of a friends death, but he is killed shortly into his investigation and finds himself time looping, the problem is that he keeps looping back to a later and later time catching up to the time of his most recent death, so it's not an infinite amount of chances and he is not completely aware of what has changed in that chunk of time.
Using that mechanic, explained by the fact it's our scientists trying to synthesize the aliens time looping abilities, we can then put the protagonist in a scenario that requires solving the problem with a finite amount of loops.

I have the same worry about Gladiator, which is my favorite movie of all time. I’ve worried about the sequel every time they’ve brought it up for the last 20 years, and now it’s finally coming to fruition.
For me and some others Oblivion seemed a bit out there for Mr Cruise ..a surprise really. It felt like it deserved a sequel to explore the world more?. Gladiator - it felt it never needed a sequel...

Then out spake brave Horatius,
The Captain of the Gate:
"To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And the temples of his gods?"

For those like myself that read the original story ("All You Need is Kill") it departs heavily in the end. Well of course other factors are different but the general idea of Cage in a time loop hooking up with Rita is core idea. Pity we never get to see movie Rita in battle mode like original Rita.

Edit: grammar
I like seeing aTom Cruise getting shit piled repeatedly.
It's entertaining.
The truck scene with Bill Paxton still makes me giggle when I think about it.

Fun concept, movie is pretty much "dumb sci-fi" though. Riddled with plotholes and conviences, but as a big dumb fun action movie it does a good job.
Yeah I remember watching it in theaters and it was fine, but not some masterpiece

Could be she is referring to the legal battle between Warner and Village Roadshow who have co-ownership of the franchise.
Amazing movie but I don't need a sequel to everything, even things that are amazing.

Yes, a Gladiator sequel is in production currently. I believe it may be delayed by the writer/actor strikes though.
