Does anyone have a good resource for people who want to learn to build web applications but already know general software principles? I'm an infrastructure guy so I how to design systems and write code, but I keep finding resources where it's like "This is JS! Here's how a for loop works!" etc. I have this same kind of issue with JS itself, where if I'm looking for JS-learning resources they vastly assume that I have no idea what programming principles are.

How does tildes plan to handle multiple logical paths that lead to communities that may be roughly the same? It's not really an issue right now, but we can pretend that Tildes has grown quite a bit and we have a much more fleshed out set of groups and subgroups. I know that groups are manually created right now, but here are some paths that I can see organically rising next to each other.

    • ~travel.<COUNTRY> and ~<COUNTRY>.travel.
    • ~humanities.languages.<LANGUAGE> and ~<COUNTRY>.<LANGUAGE>
    • ~games.<GAME> vs ~games.<CONSOLE>.<GAME>
    • ~news.<FOO> and ~<FOO>.news - obviously this is kind of generic but like I can see it happening with countries or other higher level topics like sports, entertainment, tech, and so on.

The Tofugu article on kunyomi and onyomi can give you the seeds to start to intuit when you should use a given reading (assuming you have already learned it).

I interpret as meaning "it's not high class cinema". Which isn't an insult IMO, though every once in a while you get the weird cinephile that thinks so.

Here are two of my favorites: Let it Be by The Beatles covered by Too Close to Touch. I really like the replacement of piano with guitar Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash covered by Zeke Duhon....

My university friends and I (and everyone's significant others, so about ~15 people) are planning a big catch-up trip, which will also be the first time to the country where I live for all of them. Planning has been a little higher friction than I expected, because we want to coordinate travel times to specific cities ("let's spend 4 days in City A, then all go to City B" etc), but people also have specific activities only they want to do (scuba, theme parks, etc) within each city. However, there's way too much to choose from and there's no way we'll do everything that everyone wants to do.

So right now to gauge interest in specific cities and attractions within them, we are just using a private Facebook group where people just make an idea as a post and people vote by liking it, and people can discuss the place in the comments. Things that we have fully decided are just placed on a spreadsheet. This process works but it doesn't feel great.

I've also explored Wanderlog, and I really like the fact that you can easily search for stuff and then place it on a map, but unfortunately its UI doesn't really support "branching" trips where some people will do different things on a given day.

What tools/processes have you had success with when trying to coordinate a big group trip?

Pizza is all the same shape in your belly :) What kind of dough were you making? I've been doing Adam Ragusea's No-Stick Neapolitan, and it's been pretty easy to work onto my baking surface,...

I clicked the link thinking about how much I enjoy my electric bike and was pleased and surprised to learn that the author has the same bike as me (BESV). I probably don't ride it at much as I could, but the summer in Japan has been brutal this year (this morning it was 90°F/32°C at 9am) and I don't want to be outside, even with the "breeze" of a bike. It doesn't help that most places are easily accessible by (air-conditioned) trains, so I think my bike will hibernate under its cover until autumn begins.
