I’ve been obsessed with my hot logic lunch box. It’s a mini-oven that you can bring to work, plug in, and forget about til hungry. I put oatmeal in it in the morning, after I eat it, I put my lunch in there. Set it and forget it. It brings foods to 165 deg F and holds it there for hours.

I am coloring in an adult coloring book, and it’s surprisingly fun. The hardest part was getting through the mental barrier that “it’s not real creativity” or a worthy use of my time. So what? I’m enjoying it, and it exercises a different part of my brain. So I guess in that sense it’s at least as productive as playing games on my phone.

I’m having a lot of fun learning the recorder (cheap and relatively easy). I have to learn to read music too, and wrap my head around how rhythm works, but I’m finding that so much is just intuitive, even though I’ve never played anything. I like singing for fun, but that’s pretty much the extent of what I can do. (I now play a mean Hot Cross Buns though.)

    Anyone else doing something similar?

I read this mostly to find out what they meant by carbon colonialism, but didn’t find out. I assume it has to do with rich nations offloading their problems to poor nations, but I feel like this is different bc no one is being exploited; it’s good for the planet and for the Pakistani residents. It’s certainly distasteful that these rich companies are happily spewing CO2 while paying someone to make them look “green,” but what’s the alternative?

I enjoyed it too, but I wished they addressed the difficulty for introverts in making these kinds of friends. I feel loved and valued by my family, valued by my coworkers for being good at my job, but I don’t have non-family friends who choose to spend time with me just bc they want to. If I lost my family and my job (like when my kids have their own lives, I retire, and my other family members pass, I’ll be totally at a loss for what to do with my time besides my hobbies (which are solitary).

I totally didn’t misread the question. I grind the beans by smashing them between the counter and the press, cavewoman style. I never clean (or actually use) my grinder, but I think you could grind rice in it if necessary and then just blow the rice dust out.

Definitely hatred mostly hurts the hater themselves. I don’t hate anyone (except murderers, child molesters, rapists etc). Have you read the book or seen the movie Dead Man Walking? It’s about a nun who develops a counselor-type relationship with a man on death row. I think she embodies compassionate listening while maintaining the understanding that he committed evil acts.

I really like this. I try to always assume positive intent, which I think is similar to compassionate interpretation. It’s not easy with some people though. I’m thinking about work, and someone who gossips a lot and criticizes people behind their backs. I straight up dislike this person and have a hard time seeing any positive intent behind most things they say. Any suggestions?
