I 100% agree your reasoning is valid, but we already do that with pets. It might take a bit longer but the end result is the same. Dogs have no natural predators for example, dogs as they exist today are pretty much a human construct. How is that any different? Because the process was slower? Because you don't really notice it on a day to day basis?

first thing I thought too. But all the same, I wonder if CRISPR could help bring this thing back to life. That'd be awesome!

First of all, have a dedicated space for work, where I can just start or stop when I like. So no setup, no looking for cables, or whatever else. I'm fortunate enough to have a spare room specifically set up for work.
I do this (apparently silly, but really works for me) thing whereby I get up around 6am, do 10 minutes of meditation, power up the pc, get dressed, eat breakfast and get ready for work. Then I leave the house around 6:45 and go for a walk around the block, when I get back to the house I'm at work.
I usually take a 10 minute break every hour or two. I'll take a half hour lunch, and probably go for another walk or a short run. Then in the evening I do that walk around the block again when I'm finished work and when I get back I'm done.

Initially I used the stayfocused plugin in chrome and firefox to block sites I didn't want distractions from, but these days I don't need that.
Also, if I get stuck on a particularly tough problem and I'm not making progress for an hour or two then I'll go for a run, around 4km, that usually helps a lot.

For me breaks are important, fresh air is important, and of course interesting problems.

After 3 or 4 years of trying to stop and failing, the smoking ban was about to come into effect in Ireland. I decided yet again I needed to stop. I started wearing patches for a few days, I found them strong so I was only changing them every other day. Anyhou, I could go an hour or two without a patch before I'd feel the urge to smoke again.
One friday night we were out in the pub, the ban still wasn't in, so pubs were still very smokey. I got on great, telling my mates how awesome the patches are, didn't get a craving all night.
It was only the next morning I realised I'd never put a patch on after my shower the evening before.
Haven't smoked or used a patch since. :-D

I've done so, so much bonding with my son through minecraft. I think we started playing when he was 5 and I was 39. It's just so much fun! Initially it mostly consisted of me trying to builds stuff and him basically digging big holes and robbing all my stuff, or blowing shit up once he discovered dynamite.
But within a year we were going on adventures together, exploring caves, slaying monsters, building castles and things, learning to farm stuff.
It's been great. The graphics sound and music are exactly as good as they need to be, and it's an amazing atmosphere when we're both playing together on a cold winters night with a mug of hot chocolate and marshmallows.
    A thoroughly wholesome game!!
When he turned 8 I got him a subscription to code kingdom, and he's had fun since learning to make his own mods. It's a really great site for kids who are interested in coding, really well done.

Now he's really into fortnite, and that's not my thing at all, but we still play minecraft together (among other things) from time to time. It's a great game.

... maybe not so chill at some (most) points, but a single mission can take about an hour, and sometimes I stick it on for 20 minutes of base management then turn it off again.

X-COM 2 will make you cry after about an hour. Probably for different reasons than you want though. I'm still crying months later.

I get your point. There is definitely a distinction between a gang fight incident or external rivalry brought on to school grounds and a student who arrives to school to get the students just because. And generally the term "school shooting" has come to mean the latter rather than the former in my mind too; although I think we should be using the term "Mass shooting".
In any case, you guys have far to many shootings of all kinds in schools.

Wipeout on PlayStation - Wipeout changed EVERYTHING. Wipeout 2 refined the first one perfectly, the graphics, the ship handling, the speed! And the music is amazing. So many firsts with Wipeout. I would consider it an almost perfect game, if there is such a thing. Later versions messed up the game mechanics IMO, the ships didn't have the raw power of the first two, they somehow lost the sense of speed. Pity.

X-COM 2 - Man, I cannot get enough of this game. Turn based strategy game. You invest so much in the characters, then they get taken out by a bit of shrapnel or something. And it's brutal! This game doesn't give an inch. You die A LOT.
The story is epic, the game mechanics are brilliant, and after the very first level there's no hand holding. This game is a challenge. Playing in Iron Man mode is something to be experienced. Excellent, Excellent game.

Subnautica - current favourite, mellow, relaxing, and most realistic experience of being under water I've ever seen in a game. Great survival game. Just a pity it doesn't have LAN co-op so I can play with my kid.
