This guy is a poet in his narration and he’s very good with his filming. His music choices are epic too.

He doesn’t post often, or even remotely frequently, but it’s worth investing in his previous trips - hitchhiking from Vietnam to England, a trek through Jordan (and losing a pup :-(), walking across India, or paddling down a river in Australia.
He’s about to undertake a cycling journey around the world, and is due to post that soon (I hope!)

Part of the charm is waiting for him to pop up.

My local farmers market has a French guy providing bread. It’s hands down the best bread ever. But it’s half you weekly budget. But I live in the highest income county in the US, so I guess that comes with the territory.

Those (good) basics being so expensive has me reevaluating, without the additional cost of vitamins, if going a different route would not just be good for the planet and me, but also for my budget.

Me being abused as a youngster by a person in a position of power, as a very young male has lead me through many varying thoughts and challenges. This happened in a conservative thinking family, driven by (supposed) values, and have not been discussed since I brought it to light.

I struggle with it still today, even after therapy and hypnosis.
    We all have our issues
I don’t feel special or different for it.

I know I’m not the only one, and am not different to many who have been down this path.
We carry on, and do the best with what life can throw back at us.

    But.
You are not the only one. And therefore not unique or different.
The German’s use a word: “sonder” - it’s the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.
We all have our issues that we’re dealing with.
Therefore none of us are that special or unique. We’re all fighting battles, living our lives and doing the best we can, to live a life that many around us are fighting to do too.

We all want to see individual snowflakes but also struggle to discern them from the blur.

    A tragedy it is indeed.

Am just curious: how much more expensive do you think your diet might be compared to not going the route you’re on?

Whilst I’m not vegan, I’m trying to be more planet friendly (and also help my body) by going plant based and organic wherever I can. But these things cost more.
So, with supplements added in, this has to cost significantly more than a “normal” person’s grocery bill.

Is the extra cost worth it from an energy/awareness/health/self worth perspective?

Seeing that I’m a more liberal minded (and lighter skinned) individual from South Africa and currently based in the US, I have seen this to be a universal truth. The term “Apartheid” caught everyone’s attention in the 80/90’s, but this is still an issue in modern day US too.

Darker skinned people in the US are forced, by no choice of their own (due to various factors), to live different lives (mostly in criminal ridden and poorer environments and without the same resources), compared to their supposed “equal rights” white citizens.

I truly wish that the folks of @blacktwitter will find a better home. Elon Musk’s platform is certainly not it. They’re making the right decision.

If anyone wants to set it up, I’d happily fight Elon in a cage and kick his puny ass.

Can ~tildes be a home for these folks?

I wholly support your last sentence. I sacrificed sleep to watch the WWC as much as I could, and ended up rather watching the Spanish feed on Telemundo (to get the vibe) than listen to US commentators if my VPN to AU or the UK was being glitchy.

    That being said…
Free OTA Premier League games are a “gateway drug” just to get you hooked.
Say you develop an interest in the League and the level of competition, so you figure signing up for YouTube TV ($75)will get you what you want to see. Nope. Most games are only shown on Peacock ($10), but not the important ones, so you still need the YTTV.
After a season’s watching you realize there’s more going on… there’s also the FA Cup (ESPN+) and something even more enticing: the Champions League (featured on Paramount+). If, unfortunately, you develop a expanded interest in the German, French, Dutch, Spanish or Italian leagues, you will face a different animal altogether.

In the end it’s just easier, cheaper and more convenient to go after that elusive X on the crudely drawn map.

Whilst I agree that climate change is showing us a glimpse of what’s to come, it is not expected that a hurricane will reach southern CA. At worst it’ll be a tropical storm - meaning rain, and maybe quite a bit of it (maybe causing landslides and localized flooding), but not the power of a hurricane.

I see my ‘world cup’ tag has been removed to be replaced by “football.womens”.

I have a significant issue with that. They play the same game, on the same size pitch, with the same sized goal and the same sized ball. Hell, some of them are even playing in men’s shoes, causing debilitating injuries.

This is NOT a sport that needs to be designated as being “football.women”.

The quality, the competition and the drive is there.

“World Cup” deserves to be enough of a tag, and should be.

Time zone challenges aside, I’m really appreciating the growth in the competition and the extent that the tournament has grown in popularity, viewership and more importantly recognition.

When I (for the first time) watched the Euro’s last year there was a perceived slower pace of Football and it took some getting used to compared to the pace of, for instance, the Premier League. But after watching a few games I’ve come to realize their game is developing at a high rate - and this World Cup’s excitement, quality of play, and upsets are evident that these players are catching up fast. They really are really putting on a show to be appreciated.

But, like I said in the title, I’m watching Footie from the US.
And, I wish I could say different, but the Fox commentary, in the simplest terms, sucks big time. Their breathless uneducated excitable play by play commentary (especially John Strong’s) detracts to the point that this is not an enjoyable experience at all.

My resolution is to watch the game on Telemundo (in Spanish) so I can appreciate the talent on display, and not suffer the distraction of terrible commentary, but still pick up on the vibe.

If American Soccer wants to evolve, then the TV commentary needs to toned down from overly excitable (and partial) to more informative and educational.

I’m so grateful that the Wall wasn’t built tall enough to not now allow Spanish commentary.
