You are on to something more useful to me than Digg, /. or most all of Reddit. I'm not a Facebook type, I barely even tweet, deviantART was sold - and I want to see a safer, non-commercial place to connect and learn. This looks very much like a place I wouldn't be embarrassed to suggest to my sister or my co-writers.

    Very rusty Spanish.

Moving back to Cali soon, and my bucket list includes improving my Spanish - lessons with native speakers, so I can grasp the slang and localized variations as well as the usual pronunciation (as opposed to classroom España instruction). Verb tenses are still pretty baffling.

I'm also going to start working on ASL. Becoming a paid translator is not my goal, but not having to pass written notes back and forth when I want to converse at all with somebody who doesn't read lips will be worth learning what I can.

    Heya.

Redditor for 10 years, just learned about r/redditalternatives - and today my invite to the beta arrived!
I really like what D. is out to do better here.

"Bought" my first domain names in '95 (and was a newsgroup fan before then). Was a writer before then, still a writer now.
This looks like a good place to "chat" more than I usually do, and I hope to gird up my loins and start posting link topics soooo-oon.

Before the month ends I'm returning to California, where I've lived longer than anywhere else. Home again!

Shortened the username I've put to use on other sites. Still addicted to cigarettes, too, so there's that.

C - thanks for all the hard work. I like a lot of what I've read at 'announcing-tildes', so I donated.
