Introductions | February 2019
Lots of new people coming in today, and there will be lots in the next couple of days... the last Introductions post was months ago, we're overdue for another one. Drop in, say hi, tell us whatever you like about yourself, even if it's just how your day is going. On Tildes, ~talk is the casual space, so don't feel pressured to be clever or anything. :P
Past introduction threads for everyone to catch up: -1- . -2- . -3- . -4- . -5-
Also in case anyone missed it, there's an intro to tildes post to help bring you up to speed on this place.
One thing I've noticed we're rather bad at is telling people where their settings page is - click your username in the top right of any page. That's where all the fun stuff is, including several color themes and two of them make for a kickass night mode. Solarized Dark for life.
I highly, highly recommend enabling the "mark new comments" feature as well. It makes it much easier to keep up with new comments in discussions.
The only reason it's not on by default is because it requires storing some extra data about your usage of the site, and under Privacy by Design, that means it should be opt-in.
I might add that as a new user I really appreciate this being an option that's not forced by default. Being modest with the simple things shows great promise for privacy with the complicated things.
On mobile, the settings page is really hard to find, though. I think it's because you have to click "sidebar", then the username (which has no indication of being clickable) and then "sidebar" again. I think you should change this, especially since a lot of important stuff is hidden in there!
Yeah, I think that's probably one of the worst parts of the mobile version right now. I want to make the Settings link more accessible for everyone, I think. Maybe just always having a link to it near your username.
I hear Dracula is actually better, that's one our users created that's part of Tildes Extended. TEx is like a baby reddit enhancement suite. At some point though, the site will support user-created skins, so people will be able to contribute and share styles. I imagine when we get around to letting communities do custom CSS there will be themes there too, should help take some of the pain out of the process and give the users here with webdev skills the opportunity to make some kickass contributions.
Okay, where is the "BLASPHEMY" label? Because this post needs it. :)
Is there a TEx for Firefox? I like enhancement!
There is! Here's the project's git repository which links to the Firefox Add-ons page in README.md.
Well well, I thought it was chrome only. Installing now. I love me some enhancements too.
Edit: The live markdown preview is extremely welcome. Should save me from so many edits after posting.
One thing to note is that in Firefox, certain functionality (as of right now) may not work based on content security policy settings in your
about:config
. Check the issue tracker, as there may be relevant information there if you run into problems.EDIT: Open issue here.
AMAZING, thank you!
Dracula for life. Nothing else comes close. I wish everything on the internet was formatted in Dracula.
I personally love the Solarized Light theme. It feels relaxing yet serious simultaneously.
I just signed up today and the welcome message includes a link to the settings :) but thanks!
I see a lot of people here have been on HN. I feel like i have been living under a rock, what`s HN?
Thanks, i thought it was hacker news, but i had to ask to make sure.
Hey guys, I am here for like 2 days now, enjoying it so far :).
I am a young CS student in the Czech Republic. I also work in automation, mostly with Adobe stuff (extendscript brrrr). Also I am gay and extremely single, starting to feel sad because of it in the last few months, but I am still hopeful.
Hahaha, I use Visual Studio and the Adobe Extendscript IDE thingy, it's pretty terrible :D. I haven't figured out proper code completion in VS and in the Adobe Toolkit thing it's really bad too. I use the object class viewer or what it's called (on F1 I think) in the Adobe ES thingkit quite a lot, because there's like no help on the internet for ExtendScript most of the time. I like how by default the ES IDE has a non monospaced font and has different font sizes for commented lines. Pretty great design.
Hey that would be great, thank you :).
Hi, fellow (almost) CS student from Czechia here!
Where do you study? I still have some time before I go to university, and I have no idea where should I go, so I try to complete as many competitions as possible inbetween (so I won't have to do entry exams :P). ČVUT looks great me so far.
I just started learning Rust yesterday for some reason, and so far it feels very weird and unintuitive - hopefully that means it'll be fun later!
Stick with it! After a while the borrowing, etc. rules will become second nature and Rust will really shine in your toolset. As a hiring manager I'm thrilled to see competence in Rust.
Hello!
Coming from Reddit, mostly to find a better community. Tilde's goals make it sound like it might be one.
Been a long-time Reddit user, though disenchanted with most of the platform. Also been on Hubski for a year or two.
I'm a writer, designer, and web dev. Currently trying to make a living out of that.
Am from Russia. Speak Russian. Feel free to ask me about my country. I've managed to say a thing that some people liked.
Hello! This is my first comment here. I was invited in the most recent Reddit invite post.
This looks like a fun place.
Welcome! Though I would give Lilly that spot :P
A fellow KS player! Hello! Lilly is perfectly deserving of that spot. Just not as deserving as Hanako. :P
I commend you both for your devotion to incorrect choices. But you can now be aware that Shizune actually occupies this spot!
I would agree that Shizune occupies that spot.
However she does so less than Lilly who does so less than Hanako
who does so less than KenjiYou called?Oh wait, wrong name. Bye.Hi everyone, just joined after learning about this place on HN. I grew up when online forum communities were still going strong (before we had today's social media) and it seems like this place might bring that feel back a bit.
I'm a CS student from Germany and working as a trainee software engineer. Other than that I do a lot of music/art and gaming. Happy to be here & meet you all :D
New user here as well, I'm liking the forum type feel, funny how we seem to have come full circle to usenet type groups but I like it.
Currently working in London and back in work after a 14 hour shift cause shits still broke.
Hi!
Coming from a HN comment. Is is possible to request groups? Im thinking one about Design would be intersting :)
Every so often there's a thread in ~tildes.official where we talk about creating new groups and people make suggestions.
Damn, nice. I'm super jealous! And speaking of him, have you seen his WIRED - One Concept in 5 Levels of Difficulty video? Not only can he play many instruments fantastically, he is a phenomenal teacher as well. He is amazing!
Left Reddit a while ago and was just on HackerNews and SlowTwitch (old school style Triathlon Forum). Big fan of virtue ethics although I believe they are heuristic optimization techniques and tend to frame stuff from an existential view when considering longer term decisions. A big part of the reason why I like virtue ethics is it meshes well with my career (full time + consulting) and sport (triathlon) which require optimizing a lot of my time. While this helps keep me applied and busy I've been wondering lately if I am missing out from other things by not being able to be as "chill" as others. Would love to have a discussion about meshing views of Stoicism/Epicurean/Aristotelian/Buddhism with a modern lifestyle -- I feel a lot of the time it is hard to divorce there views from how they would impact my career/hobby which seem to have an underlying capitalist incentive. Even Buddhism, the philosophy I have spent the most time with (born and raised in a Buddhist family) seems to of been cherry-picked to help us with our everyday social lives for example I've found as I get older the idea of wanting less has often transitioned to wanting luxury goods or BIFL (buy it for life) items. Is this really wanting less? I own less at higher quality but I still derive pleasure/attachment from the fact that what I own is a luxury good (for example, a metal strainer vs a plastic strainer).
Anyways just a train of thought... I enjoy reading others views and flows of thought so PM if you'd like to engage in a discussion of how personal success can avoid turning into a rat-race.
I am not a practicing Buddhist like yourself, but do practice daily Zazen meditation and have studied Buddhism rather extensively, largely agree with many of the fundamental principles and do try to live by them as best I can. I think if you were truly serious about the religious aspects, e.g. attaining "enlightenment" (if such a thing is even truly possible), then that would undeniable still be viewed as holding on to attachment derived from craving, which is what leads to suffering. However from my more practical perspective, i.e. using the ethics and lessons of Buddhism to better your life without sacrificing its quality, I think switching to BIFL is definitely a giant step in the right direction and one that we could all really benefit from adopting, not just personally but as a species. Planned obsolescence, novelty items and a quantity over quality attitude is wreaking absolute havoc on our environment, and if the worst climate change predictions are true, may have already doomed us. :/
On and off redditor for probably 8 years but I tend to open an account and delete it after 6 months and then not touch reddit for another 6 months. I think I'm off it for good now, along with anything else similar (facebook etc.).
Been using HN for quite a few years now, fairly quiet HNer but I do contribute from time to time.
Software/web developer since 1998 professionally but I've been hacking on computers since my first computer in 1981.
Tildes looks pretty refreshing so I'm interested to see where it'll go and what it'll develop into. Looking forward to sticking around.
Hi! Re-introducing myself since I've been absent for months and months. Getting sick of the content on Reddit and trying to switch to Tildes more seriously.
Tildes seems like the place I've been looking for for quite a while and the lack of downvote feature is actually something I really like.
I've done some things to break the habit of reddit such as moving icons on my phone ect so that I come here first instead, seems as though I got a bit lost in reading some posts I didn't even realise I was at my station.
Hah, same here. Moved Reddit into my apps drawer and my Tildes shortcut into its place on my home screen. Going well so far.
Hi,
I've been on reddit for a few long years by now, on HN for about a year or so (Anniversary! Yay?).
I'm currently writing my bachelor thesis for CS in germany, I'm personally always interested in people who want to improve the internet so I was rather interested when I heard of tildes. Due to various recent events I was looking for some option to selfhost a reddit alternative as well as an alternative to the HN and Reddit Community Circles, so I think this place fits.
Personally I'm doing fairly well although worktime has been eating into "time for personal projects", had not much time for them lately.
Hey zaarn! I'm also studying CS in Germany, care to share the topic of your thesis?
It's essentially about finding and integrating SSO (Single Sign On) products into existing
stuff we found laying around at the officewebapps.Hi All from Singapore!
Long time reader of reddit and only started HN last year.
Network engineer by trade but interested in all aspects of the web.
Cheers!
I've been on Reddit since the lisp days. Once - many years ago - I tried to create my own replacement that was designed to put the users first and be more transparent. I struggled to get users so today I do my best to support projects like this one.
Programmer by trade. My main interests are emergent complexity, systems theory and applying that to society to create a more just and equal socio political order.
What was your replacement named?
I tried to make a social networking protocol that could be used to generate any kind of social networking site http://www.babblingbrook.net was the theory site. http://cobaltcascade.net/ was the reddit themed version. It is still online, but I havn't touched it in almost 5 years and the designs are about 8 years old... so don't expect it to look like much, but if you sign up you will see it has lots features to enable community control, such as users being able to create their own algorithms for sorting results.
Hey! Been a member for about a week after I saw mention of Tildes in a Hacker News discussion. I've been growing tired of reddit's trend towards pictures and gifs (especially since the redd.it domain for images gets blocked by my firewall at work), and wanted to seek out longer form articles and discussion. Granted there's still good subs on reddit for this, but the front page of Tildes is already so much closer to what I want in a community of this sort.
I'm in IT support by trade, but the dream is to become a pro musician. Slow-going thus far, but getting there!
What instrument(s) do you play? I've played guitar for almost 40 years, with a bit of banjo and ukulele mixed in there. Was in a couple small bands but never had aspirations of going pro.
I was brought up playing the piano, but I'm mostly a guitarist these days (through dint of not owning a piano!). I've dabbled a little with violin, but it's a brutal thing to go fretless after 13 years!
Getting to be pro is a pipe dream essentially, though I would consider making a living from teaching music to be pro as well, and that's far more achievable!
What sorts of music do you play?
Pretty much anything but country, but mostly rock/blues and acoustic stuff (Neil Young, CS&N, a little Dylan, Beatles, etc.) I'm an old man now at 51, so my influences are a bit dated, but that's what I like to play. Banjo is for bluegrass three-finger style, and a little clawhammer. I'm really rusty on the banjo though; it's been about five years since I've played with any regularity. I'd love to be super proficient at bluegrass, but it's not easy to get fast. Just takes tons of practice, for which I have little time.
So you read music? That's one thing I never learned to do starting with guitar as basically a hobby and being mostly self-taught.
Hey! I was here a few months but I never actually participated in an Introductions topic, so here I am.
I’m here because @RedstoneTehnik invited me from the subreddit r/lounge on Reddit. I still use Reddit for memes and such, but this’ll be my main link aggregator and community site.
I’m currently a student, I live in Dubai, the UAE but I was born lived in Westminster, London for a few months.
I can’t wait to see how this place progresses, and I really like what @Deimos is doing with this site!
Hi, redditor for 7 years, HN user for 2 here. I first saw tildes on HN.
I work remotely for programming, while living in Korea. I study Korean in my free time and work on side projects/blog posts here and there. These days I use reddit less and less, but I still avidly read HN to learn about things and keep up to date.
Hi all. I just got my invitation and joined yesterday! I've been a redditor (under a different name) for the last 8-9yrs and mod some smaller, US state politics subs. I stumbled onto Tildes from reddit a few months ago, and nearly forgot about it until an invitation thread popped up on my frontpage the other day!
In the real world, I work as an "IT Generalist" from Kansas City, MO, USA. My interests are in politics and news, gaming, technology, and travel.
I've had an opportunity to try other, similar sites like Imzy and Voat, so I'm exited see to how Tildes develops and how it can differentiate itself from those and ofc, reddit.
Edit: Missing words.
Hello, I'm happy to be here! My main interests include slow living, veganism, environmentalism, and writing. I'm mostly a lurker, but I love reading other people's opinions, going through articles, and contributing when I can. I'm liking the simple and intuitive layout on tildes, as well as the focus on thoughtful discussions. See you around!
Been on Reddit for a few years now, I found Tildes through a Reddit comment and replied saying that it looked cool and I'd sign up if I somehow managed to get an invite. As you can guess someone PMed me an Invite link and here I am! I'm still trying to figure everything out, but I like it so far.
7 year redditor, 10 year on/off casual programmer. Doing Python since last summer, and have long had fantasies of designing a discussion forum where even the most divisive issues can be discussed civilly and constructively. Here to code and post cat pics, whenever ~cats comes around.
Hi, just joined this morning, finding my way around.
Super cool seeing how much calmer the discussion is here than... well everywhere else on the internet.
In the real world I am just a high schooler in NY who likes to code (among other things) and on the internet, I am the exact same thing. I think this place is gonna be cool. See Y'all around.
Howdy! I am pretty similar to the rest of you. I have used Reddit for years, though I still enjoy some specific subreddits unlike many here. I am college senior officially studying Economics, but I have been trying to get more into coding and tech. I am living in Kansas, US for now, but that will be changing soon. I have been looking for a smaller community, and I hope Tildes is it.
like most people i’m also from reddit, i first heard of tildes in the reddit alternatives thread and my invite was accepted shortly. So far i’m still getting adjusted to the site and how everything works.
Day isn’t too bad. Just finished some classes and have a few more til the day is over. Plan to workout and do some programming before the day ends.
Howdy, all.
11 year reddit user, 5 year HN user, found Tildes via a HN comment chain.
I'm a software dev in Virginia (USA), and patiently awaiting the userbase to expand enough for ~cars to exist. I had been dreaming up investorless, privacy-oriented social networks a couple weeks before I found Tildes, so naturally I was pretty mindblown to find it all developed and in a stage of growth. I'm a little hesitant with Tildes' approach to moderation/banning, but we'll see how it pans out in the long run. There's pros and cons.
+1 on the ~cars :)
Hello! Like most of you, I'm a long-time Reddit and Hacker News reader. I don't post much on those sites for different reasons: I'm worried about downvotes/bad-faith commenting on Reddit, and I don't know what I'm talking about on HN. I work in a library and do coding type stuff as a hobby, so I've been looking for something like HN but with more general topics. I hope tildes will be that!
About me: I'm in Louisiana, work at a library, don't read as much as I want to, and try to write creatively as much as I can.
Hiya ~,
Also a long time HNer, have lurked on reddit for many, many years. HN thread actually led me to ~, and I am quite pleased to be a part of the community here. I studied mathematics and philosophy, worked for years in various software engineering verticals, and have stumbled my way into being a faceless executive of the conglomerate of evil. I like to think I'm a bit of a rat in the opera house, though I fear that is an empty, romantic notion.
I live and work in the northeastern United States, though I've seen much of the world during military service in my youth. I worked in various startups after getting out of the service, ended up going corporate due to the practical economic reality of having a family. I'm drawn to online communities primarily to interact with and read perspectives from people who live outside of the bubble that my life tends to take place in. Reddit/HN each had +/- aspects for me--after learning about Deimos' views on how to conduct the ~ project, I jumped at the chance to join it!
Hi guys,
9 years on Reddit, HN for about 5. Saw Tildes mentioned on HN and thought why not join in.
I live and work in The Netherlands as a Software Engineer.
Currently doing a master thesis in my spare time. Subject of my Thesis is Machine Learning. I'm trying to wrap it all up and finish this coming month, but it's hard to find the motivation/time for the last stretch..
Howdy :)
8.5 years on Reddit and Digg prior to that. Started taking interest in privacy/security a couple years back and just yesterday spotted a thread mentioning /r/RedditAlternatives which led to finding out about Tildes.
I'm in the Southeastern US and primarily work in IT with a focus in business web applications (I hope to contribute here if spare time allows). I also tinker with board game design on the side.
At home I'm learning basic carpentry and getting my feet wet with Raspberry Pi projects. I just found out about Mozilla's Internet of Things project for smart homes which I find exciting.
Hello all. /u/halfjew22 from Reddit.
Came across Tildes while doing research for my site knophy.com, which seeks to solve similar problems through giving a louder voice to those who have demonstrated competency in topics of interest. Will hopefully be able to have conversations with Mark and team about how we can work together to solve these ever encroaching problems of technological societies.
Looking forward to joining in on some interesting conversations!
Hello all, glad to be here. I’ve followed along on HN and DN (Designer News) for several years but never contributed much. I joined Tildes a few days ago after seeing it mentioned on HN as growing place for open discussion. So far I’ve read a lot, haven’t had a chance to contribute anything yet.
I’m a software designer living in working in Oslo, Norway. I’m Originally from the UK and grew up in USA. I like reading, solving problems and cooking vegan food.
Hi all.
Not sure what to say here. Damn. I guess my writers block has extended to internet forms. Next thing I know I won't be able to type out an sms.
Hello everyone~
I was previously a Redditor for 9 years and slowly as we all knew the old good discussions that made Reddit great disappeared little by little over the years. At first it just moved to smaller subreddit but recently it seems to all but vanished along with some questionable things that have been happening recently on the platform.
I have only been here for a few minutes and I already feel at home. This is the new home that I have been searching for since the failed exodus to voat turned into an awful place so I quickly went back to Reddit.
Thank you everyone and I hope that we all can have great discussions for as long as possible until we have to once again find a new home.
Edit: I'll be hanging out in everything from D&D to Anime, Tech, and Games.
Heya.
Redditor for 10 years, just learned about r/redditalternatives - and today my invite to the beta arrived!
I really like what D. is out to do better here.
"Bought" my first domain names in '95 (and was a newsgroup fan before then). Was a writer before then, still a writer now.
This looks like a good place to "chat" more than I usually do, and I hope to gird up my loins and start posting link topics soooo-oon.
Before the month ends I'm returning to California, where I've lived longer than anywhere else. Home again!
Uhhh, hello Tilders! (Is that a thing?)
Like most of you I'm sure, I am yet another Redditor who is in search truly open, respectful discussions. I'm a huge information sponge, but I've never felt very comfortable engaging in most Reddit discussion. I hope that can be different here!
Nothing too special about me. Just a guy in his mid-twenties trying to do well in the world, support his family of one fiance, one dog, and a bunch of rats. I work for a non-profit that provides day-habilitation, housing, and employment opportunities and supports for the disabled members of my community.
I'm what you'd call a Job Coach. I provide transportation, assist with work tasks, and facilitate conversation with co-workers, management, and customers of various business that my clients work for. It's a strange, crazy job, and it sure doesn't make me rich, but it's an honest way to live. The benefits are very nice at least, and that's a blessing in this world.
Anyway, I hope to get to know you all.
Hi o.o
Reddit lurker for 3 years here. Read about Tildes from some OOTL thread (can't remember exactly which one), thought I should give it a try.
NEET for 8 months--I'm waiting for a call from some government department, as scholarship contract states that we serve under said department upon graduation in return. In the meantime I'm studying Japanese, learning more Python, playing rhythm games, and just picked up the piano.
Hi all! Like many I found Tildes from last week's post on HackerNews.
Really happy to find this community. Seems like things are more engaging, and thoughtful. I've felt HackerNews has turned into a territory for driving idealogies instead of being interested in ideas for their own sake.
One improvement I'd like to see is the ability to create our own communities. I think the magic is in catering firstly to niche communities. Let people get as niche as possible
Hello all. Been on reddit for a few years and saw something about the site so I requested an invite out of curiosity.
Website looks great, looking forward to see how it progresses.
I'm from the UK, currently a Production Operative working with concrete, hoping to make a few changes soon though.
Im really into music and wanting to get involved in producing in the future as that's what I'm passionate about.
Hello! Redditor for 5 years and lurker on HN for about 6 months. Find tildes when someone mentioned this site when everyone was flipping their shit on reddit not so long ago. Im currently studying my a-levels in CS, Engineering and Maths(I suck at this one at the most). Ive also finally switched to Manjaro Linux and haven't touched a Windows machine In three weeks!
I also adore everything Doom Metal related
Hey:) This looks like a really nice place. I found the site on HN where I have been active for a few years and hope it will be going places.
Currently I'm busy writing my graduate thesis in Math, in the subset of Linear Algebra, Algebraic Geometry, and Cryptography (on code-based cryptosystems to be exact). When I'm not doing that I like doing some fun programming or collecting interesting links on all kinds of topics many of which I'll sure share on here.
Hi; nice to meet folks. I remember hearing about this site quite a while back and I finally got around to requesting an invitation the other day. I had been on Reddit for a long time and initially enjoyed it; but for a while now I have disliked the direction of its community and design and I have been looking for an alternative.
I am also a prolific lurker on MetaFilter! The AskMetaFilter section of the site was actually a direct inspiration for AskReddit, although the two went in very different directions. MetaFilter is good, I think, but I wanted something a bit more open to general chattiness.
Like most of us I am also a software engineer! I have been working in software for eight years and programming for about fifteen. I live in Canada with my girlfriend, three cats, and golden retriever. :)
There are so many techies here. Couple thousand from hacker news, and Tildes made the rounds in the linux/open source subreddits when the code went open which brought in a ton more from reddit. Just yesterday we had a lot of people show up from /r/tech. This place is stewing in STEM graduates. Most internet sites start off like that but I think we drew more than our fair share.
We definitely have developer horsepower on this site in spades. Tildes source code is right here on Gitlab for them to play with. Not all donations have to be cash. ;)
Hello guys, I've just joined you some hours ago, and I love this simple interface, it takes nothing to load it; hope you won't change to a heavier frontend like someone else did è_è
Considering the lead developer is fond of sharing The Website Obesity Crisis I seriously doubt any of Tildes' pages will ever approach anything that could be called bloat. I think right now a full page load is like 12kb. That's the way it should be. :D
Hello! I'm an IT Professional. Came from r/tildes invite post and just commented to give tildes a shot. Haven't heard of Tildes until now. Reddittor for more than 3 years and it looks very interesting in here. Like I'm in a new universe. Let's see If I can find communities here that have the same interests as mine e.g. Baseball, MotoGP, PCGaming, BattleStations, History and Music!
Heyo/
I'm an Irish ex-pat in New Zealand, working in IT and writing on the side. Also a reddit refugee but been on digg and all the other usual suspects for years before that too. Way, way, way back I hung out on msn chat and had a great time getting drunk and talking philosophy with randomers. The internet was a smaller and much more exciting place back then and new ventures like tildes remind me of that time so cheers :)
Hi, everyone.
I'm a software developer I'm the US. I spend my free time playing video games (rhythm games, fighting games, and MMOs primarily) and reading manga both old and new (most recently High Score Girl and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure part up through part 4). I used to play some D&D online, and am also into tabletop games like Magic: the Gathering and random boardgames.
Nice to meet you all!
I think I might be a little late to this thread, but my day's been pretty good. I'm really nervous and excited to do my first autocross event this Sunday!!
I like how simple and small tildes is, which is why i started sitting on IRC chats during my lectures to pass the time - the discussion is usually way better than one on reddit or a massive discord server :P
Greetings all! Self-exiled 3 years ago from the British Empire (American colony of New York) to Austin in the Republic of Texas. I'm a post-leftist anarcho-monarchist, Linux monkey, contemplative, cultural analyst & humorist. My education is in anthropology of Islam, Islam and modernity, and comparative religion from the perspective of the writings of Frithjof Schuon & co. I'm a lover of poetry by Hakim Bey (Peter Lamborn Wilson) and a producer for the No Agenda podcast. I also look forward to polishing my French as that sort of behavior gets normalized in these parts. God save the Queen!
Hey mates, how is it going? As virtually everyone here, I come from Reddit, seeking a sleeker and more focused alternative, and Tildes is leaving me with a positive first impression.
As for myself, I'm a software dev with an interest in storytelling. For the last couple of years, I've been jumping through various mediums (mostly video game-related) creating stories with/for their players. Lately, I've been delving into D&D and seeing if that turns into the next foundation for a narrative of some sort.
