Introductions | May 2018, part 2
Hi everyone! I'm @Vibe aka /u/drkgodess on Reddit where I mod a couple of small subs.
The original Introductions thread got kind of long so I'm starting a new one.
What brings you to ~ ?
I was getting tired of how blatant the advertisements posts and bots were getting as well as the generally toxic attitude that's infected most of social media nowadays. I just someplace where I can talk to people about stuff I like and find out cool shit without the unbridled hostility.
is passive aggressiveness ok? /s

Hmm. Should we have a [sarcasm] tag? Not quite the same as troll/flame because it's not necessarily negative to throw a little snark around.
I think it could be a good idea. Reading sarcasm on the net is still one of the tougher things people have to do. It could hopefully prevent a lot of misunderstandings
On this topic, I think the Joke tag should suffice. I think the conciseness of the current tags should stay.
Since you were a mod in the same kind of place on reddit, I'll defer to your suggestion. Keep tags concise it is. :D
I've been trying to look for a nice little forum-type place for a while, but it's so hard to find good ones. Reddit communities are too large, most forums are too focused or too ingrained in their ways to feel like you can really join in. I'm loving how this site is shaping up, and I really hope the feeling of it stays the same.
I'm enjoying it a lot too!
It will stay like this for awhile, but with more people the sense of community across the enitre site will diminish inevitably. But the goal is to have a lot more smaller, tighter-knit communities across the site and I don't think it will ever be as bad as reddit.
I'm really enjoying the feeling of nostalgia I've gotten from ~ so far, it's so similar to the forums I used to haunt half a lifetime ago, but more mature.
Fingers crossed!
Hi!
I'm LTADnD - I go by the same on Reddit (/u/LetsTalkAboutDnD). It's nice meeting all you ~ folks.
When I heard about a website that's new and aims to be better than Reddit, I thought "Heck yeah!". I still enjoy Reddit, but I don't really like the fact that even on the small subs people don't get to know each other. I don't feel like there's a sense of community there, because nobody remembers each other and posting is valued more than discussion.
I thought that maybe a small website like this would be better for that, at least while it's still this size. I was happy to see that the creators seem to feel the same way.
I asked people what games they were playing recently and it turned into a nice conversation rather than 90% single-comment threads. That's the sort of thing I was hoping for.
Front page when I joined as well: A D&D chat. I love this site already.
I'm excited to see it all expand. (hint hint - dedicated RPG section :P)
-LTADnD
P.S. Everyone's names are so short here! I feel sorta left out haha
Let me tell you another difference between this place and reddit.
There's nothing stopping us from building an actual tabletop system into this website for the RPG groups to use running their own campaigns. In fact most of the tabletop software out there is such crap that it'd almost be impossible to not do better. Just depends on what the donations can pay for - code and cash.
One of the places I miss most from reddit is /r/dndbehindthescreen - that is one fucking awesome community.
I don't play a lot of DnD myself (read: none), but the idea of watching the community build out that kind of tool as a complete separate branch of development is pretty awesome!
That sounds absolutely amazing!
I'm sceptical something like that will actually be implemented among everything else in the works, but it would be awesome to see if it happens.
Well, I doubt it'd be ironed into the site code since it's got a narrow scope, but it's the kind of thing that'd make for an interesting little side project on its own little instance somewhere that could be linked back into certain communities. Honestly, if we want to have a truly kick ass community site, we need to be looking at building tools like this for certain groups that have special community needs. It'd really depend on the level of interest in the tool and the funding - but let's not limit our thinking to 'traditional' forums and services. This thing could turn into a large, multi-faceted platform.
Let the community decide what it wants, and what it wants to pay to create (with code or dollars). People are going to come up with awesome, crazy shit. :D
Well, that's what we need apis for. One can always build plugins to extend the APIs functions :P
You'd be surprised. There are a lot of enthusiasts who just like to build things, and I imagine there are plenty of programmers who enjoy a good game of DnD as well. An open source project in particular would make it a lot of fun for some people :)
Oh shit. I was all waiting for tildes going open source to help with the development but now I'm really tempted. I love RPG in general and DnD has been a huge part of my teenager years. it would be so cool to be able to run a campaign kinda play-by-forum with some tools built ad-hoc here :P
Probably settings and ruleset that incentive more the narration than the dice roll could be better. Something like Spectre would be quite easy to implement.
There's actually a new chat-based online RPG system that's under heavy development with a really nice community, called RoleGate. I've been playing a game there for a little while now, and it makes it quite easy to just jump in and say a little something whenever you have a moment.
www.rolegate.com
With having access so early it means people actually get to have a username they've always wanted. I got my actual name which i'm super happy about. your name is also great because it makes me want to initiate a conversation with you!
It's also a great opportunity to grab a brand new name that you've never used before, something easy and simple. I knew I could choose almost any name signing up here, and it's been a very long time since that's been the case.
Short names? What are those. But for real though, when I checked this place out and saw D&D right on the front I decided to give is a solid shot. Literally the only reason I still go to Reddit is for the admittedly astounding D&D resources. Hopefully we can migrate some of those over here eventually, or make a comparable collection of our own.
Yeah, Reddit is a goldmine for D&D stuff. A little annoying that most of /r/DnD gets overtaken by character art, though. If a similar thing is implemented here, hopefully there would be a separate ~RPGArt or something like that.
I'd love that. I do like seeing some well crafted character art, but it does clog the main sub some. I think having a separate ~ for it would be awesome
If I understand this comment correctly, if art would become a nuisance they'd create a subgroup, for instance ~rpg.art. A very small part of those posts may come into ~rpg, so it won't flood that group but still allows for interesting posts to come up. For those specifically interested in the art part, they can subscribe to the ~rpg.art subgroup directly and get all the art content.
Short usernames, like mine, reddit ran out of available 3 character usernames a few years ago.
Perks of being an early user.
I am already regretting it, I wish I had chosen something different, like @FBI or @CIA.
Both of us come for similar reasons, I like new reddit alternatives for two things: small communities and bugs. I like finding and reporting bugs, but ~ seems so minimalistic that I don't think I can find anything of importance here, so I'm staying only for the community.
Great name, I look forward to chatting about D&D in the future.
(as an aside, I am currently playing some 5e, Lamentations of the Flame Princes, Shadow of the Demon lord and Shadowrun)
Hey guys - I'm coming over from Reddit because:
You've summed up reddit quite well, in terms of advertising the occasional astroturfing posts are also quite annoying. The other thing I'd add to this list is the click-baity content reposted from Facebook and overall lack of original content. I'd originally come to reddit for original content and enjoyable conversations, not the regurgitation of content I'd seen months, weeks or years ago. About 3-4 years ago, the original content on reddit used to be quite enjoyable but is now increasingly harder to come by.
The last bullet point resonates with me along with the mechanic of tagging contributions instead of having a downvote mechanic. In the overview post, the creator sums up the downvote button reddit well. Even though it's against reddiquette, everyone uses it as a disagree button which is infurating when you're trying to have a controversial discussion. Whichever view is unpopular gets hidden and you create even echo-y echo chambers. I'm hoping grouping comments with the tags (and making sure we don't get into too many choices (Hick's Law)) will help combat that.
Hello! I stumbled upon a description of ~ in a subreddit and got intrested in joining based on the philosophy behind the site. I also enjoy being part of something small and see it grow. It was pleasing to find the aesthetics of ~ so simplistic yet elegant.
I usually dont interact very much on social platforms but after browsing some topics here i feel like i found a community to actually be a part of!
Welcome man! Don't feel compelled to "post". Especially on this platform, just the fact that you read content and decide what deserve to receive a vote or not, helps a lot in shaping the quality content that goes up!
If you also have anything to add to a conversation, that's even better of course!
Hello! My name is Charles! I first heard of this through a post on Reddit and i gotta say i'm really loving this website, it's small but there's a real feeling of a close knit community, hopefully that feeling stays as the community grows!
I joined because I really liked the idea of the "tree" system, where highly regarded content on the branches would bubble up to the main branch. Along with that, I've noticed that a lot of the popular Reddit content has been more facebook-y, which isn't something I'm a huge fan of.
I like the idea of a tree as well. I'm just not sure how well it'd work out with all the separate parts each thing could be in. Take a move tie-in game. Do you put it in the movies section or the games section? The solution would have to be someting like a net, rather than a tree, and that point it's basically a matter or creating a post and tagging it with all the relevant tags.
Hello, good people of Tildes. I'm Seth Kirtlin and I'm happy to be here. I'm looking for high quality discussion and a friendly community to help each other learn things and share ideas.
If we all stick to that mantra I think Tildes will be a great place to hang out.
In the spirit of high quality discussion - what are your interests?
-LTADnD
All we got to do is build a strong foundation around these ideas. When we open to the public access, if who comes find a ground with some "unwritten" rules and a community that promote quality content, whoever don't "fit" in that mentality just goes away without having to enforce it.
It's basically the same concept that brings some cities in Germany to be so clean compared to others.
If you arrive in a new place and everything is "clean" you are compelled to keep the place clean yourself
Hey peeps. I just joined today.
My reddit account is /u/Houdiniman111 (because Houdini111 was taken and I try Houdiniman111 wherever Houdini111 is taken). I made my account back in July of 2014, but never really used it until around the time I started college, fall semester of 2015.
Reddit, to me, is about what people share, be it memes, new, art, or discussions. Nothing more, nothing less. So with all the toxicity festering in Reddit, and the admins actively working towards a more user (and less content) oriented site, I decided that it'd be good to plant roots elsewhere in anticipation.
If ~ can keep to the goals and guidelines it sets, then I think that it has the potential to live and thrive where Reddit died. Hardest part will be getting people here and contributing, and that problem isn't going to be fixed if I don't come and contribute.
Man I really like your attitude. Welcome!
I'm Chris. My original reddit account is eight years old but I go by Fantastitech (my local company name) for my coding adventures. I wanted to contribute here if I can find the time so I went with this account for ~.
As for why I'm here over reddit, it's the fighting. The constant fighting. Everything's a damn argument. Someone's always looking to "call out" as many people as they can whether it's for intellectual or moral superiority. I conduct myself online the same way I do face-to-face. With social skills. Reddit has a surplus of people with no social skills, or the inability to apply them to online interactions. If I strike up a conversation here I want it to go like a casual conversation with a stranger at a bar. Not a damn contest to see who can get on the upvoted side of an argument using the political buzzwords of the week.
Hello, I am orz, and I am a business intelligence consultant. I am got kind of fed up with reddit's blatant double standards, and on top of it, their ramming-down-throat of the horrible re-design and reddit chat nonsense. The prevalence of shitposting didn't help.
I just want a place where people can have consistent, civil conversations and bounce ideas. It doesn't have to be intellectual, but actual dialogue > trash dialogue anyday.
Plus, tildes are fuckin cool, yo.
Pretty much summed it up perfectly for me too.
I've been online since BBSes, then IRC, Forums, Slashdot, etc. I miss the proper conversations and getting to know people. Reddit was good before it got huge, not in a hipster way but just because it got so big the signal to noise ratio basically just hit pure noise.
I'm hoping Tildes becomes big enough to be self sufficient and stay around for a long time, but not so big it loses the community feel and becomes another commercial social network.
I saw a thread on /r/programming or maybe in one of the bitchfest threads that mentioned ~ and decided I’d give it a go. Also I like to find small UI bugs so I’m looking to help with testing things like that. I’m a longtime reddit user (almost 5y with an account, lurked before that) - I would probably call myself addicted to reddit - and I’m getting a bit tired of the direction they’re heading in, though I don’t think I’m ready to give it up just yet. What I really like about this place is that there doesn’t seem to be much toxicity toward reddit even though a lot of people came here because they were disgruntled with it. I like that we can peacefully coexist in a mature fashion and I hope that’s something this site can continue in the future. I go by /u/nathreed on reddit as well as here.
Welcome to ~ @nathreed
If you spot any feel free to add them to our issues tracker (if you have a gitlab account) and I will label them properly.
And IMO the reason there is not much toxicity here towards reddit is because, for the most part, we all truly loved reddit and still use it ourselves (although to a lesser extent now that we have this place). We're just disappointed in its stance on hate groups and where it's clearly heading with the redesign so decided to try to make our own, improved version of it.... drawing inspirations from BBS', Usenet, forums and other online community formats we have loved over the years as well.
Hell hath no fury like a go1dfish scorned.
I came from Reddit because I'm simply not willing to deal with the redesign, but also because it's grown too much in some subs and others are mostly stale jokes one after the other. It feels like everyone's being herded into certain types of interaction and I find that stifling.
Default sort is by activity, what's wrong with the other thread getting long?
There's lower visibility for new people after 200+ replies. I also linked the original thread so people can post there if they prefer.
That's also a problem we might be able to solve someday. After a couple days, lump it all into an [older] header and start fresh. There's no reason that old threads need to die, other than they eventually get so big they collapse under their own weight.
Oooh I like that idea a lot. Every X time on huge ongoing threads just clump up all the comments into an expando or something. Good one @Amarok!
The /r/listentothis genre bar is my inspiration - that's so damn handy for jumping between views of the content, and it's such a simple, basic system. Just put that simple little stripe across the top of everything that needs quick jumping between views of content. We could even have it build itself out of the most popular tags in any given community, and manage time-context-blocks in comment threads.
I second this idea.
Yeah, this is probably a good idea until we can offer different types of comment sorting to accommodate ongoing threads like this. Until then you're right though, the visibility of new comments there is pretty low.
I joined because I was getting tired of other communities not fitting my use pattern after growing too much. Reddit was fun, but it stopped being fun when the defaults grew too much, so I started using the smaller subs, but small subs always have moderator drama, which I was getting tired of.
I liked this site's idea of appointing moderators based on how they act in the community, rather than being the first to claim the place. The experiment sounded interesting enough I wanted to join.
I'm just glad to see something lightweight that respects privacy.
God, this site is so lightweight on my aging phone. It puts m.reddit to shame.
Hi, I'm Ten (yes that is my name).
I was formerly /u/TheLetter10 before I deleted my account and had myself voluntarily put under suicide watch (I also got 'suspended' on Reddit talking about my suicide, yet /r/suicidewatch doesn't seem to have an issue).
I'm trans and I really hope I don't see the overwhelming negative attitude towards trans people that have been popping up over the last ~4 years, with the hate and toxicity that has come out of T_D and other related subreddits.
So what about me? Well, I'm married (and struggling with my transition from male-to-female) but haven't seen my wife and kids in over two years and with no income and have exhausted every avenue for assistance by my state (Oklahoma.. which has cut social programs by 85% since 2012.. and it's not even stopping), it's been very hopeless. I've been trying to put a smile on my face but .. I dunno. I have gotten back into streaming and it seem the only way for me to feel any sort of validation anymore since I've literally been cooped (?) up, ALONE in a giant empty house that used to be full of children making noises. My stream on Twitch is under, you guessed it, TheLetterTen. I also have an instagram account that I've been lately showing off artwork and my attempts to learn how to get better at pixel art. That username is iamtheletterten (I am super afraid of posting links here.. because you know, self-promotion).
Why was I interested in ~Tildes? Well, when I first joined Reddit over eight years ago it was of course much smaller and I felt like the community was "more connected", and I've missed that. I tried to go over to Voat back in 2015, but it being filled with literal Nazis, I was constantly harassed for being trans and I gave up on that in less than a week. I really hope that this place can remain "mature" and I really would like to be part of a tight knit community.
Also, if there is ANYTHING I can do for this website, please let me know. Of course, with me being disabled and no income I cannot contribute any financial gain, but I do have a BA in marketing and maybe I can finally put that to use again.
On Reddit, I am under the account MsElleTen (get it? Miss L10) Anyways, I've been up for almost a day and a half and I've been telling myself if I don't do this intro post now then I'll never get it done.
<3 Ten
Hi, @Ten. Former mod of /r/suicidewatch here... :) and yep, the only things we ever used to take down were threats of harm against others, which is probably still the case but I can't speak to that since I haven't been involved there in many years now. But never did we take threats of harm to self down or ban people for it... being free to express those feeling (which many of us struggle with) and seeking support was the entire point of the place, after all.
I'm genuinely sorry to hear about that. Were they not comfortable with your transitioning? A friend of mine went through the same issues when she started transitioning as well and it was genuinely heartbreaking. She has since reconnected with her kids now that they have grown up a bit though. Her son is still a tiny bit uncomfortable with it still but her daughter is remarkably understanding and supportive ("I have two moms now!") which helps a lot... although her former wife still won't speak to her. :/
Ah nice. What sort of games do you stream? I am personally obsessed with Rocket League so if you ever need someone to play with, let me know (although I haven't had much time to play it recently since the launch of ~). :) and :(
That's no problem. Commenting, helping other users here where you can, if you spot any bug or issues let us know (either by PM'ing me, adding it to our gitlab issue tracker or posting to ~tildes)... there are a millions ways to help us that don't involve giving money. :)
Hey guys! Came over from reddit as I'm sure many of you did, I stumbled across this just today and liked the idea behind it. Here's hoping to lots of future growth!
Came over from Reddit to escape the constant PMs. Looking forward to posting/reading/discussing mechanical keyboards and other interesting things here :D
Whoa, mechanical keyboard are that one thing I always read about but never got to decide and buy one.
Part of it is because I've to move a lot and so my "main" is a laptop but I'm always curious to read something about it. A little less interested in the hundreds of picture "look at this new paint I applied to my keyboard" post to be honest as, after a while, they just become a contest about who has the worst taste with the green colour.
I went ahead and got a Ducky One TKL before getting the computer I'm now using it with, so I used it with my laptop for a few months. It works surprisingly well, and it's quite portable with next to no bezels and the lack of a numpad. I can fit it in a small day bag, though I'd probably want some sort of dedicated soft carry bag for it if I were to travel with it often.
The r/mechanicalkeyboards wiki was a pretty nice resource, but I don't feel like the actual community had any more to offer than was archived there.
A bit late on my reply, but there are pretty good articles on the web that can help you with choosing a good one. Keychatter.com is a little more enthusiast-level but it might help :)
also bounced over from Reddit, I stumbled upon the link in some thread I can't remember now.. started reading up on ~ and loved everything I was reading. So here I am, hopefully I'll be a little more outgoing and comment on more threads than I did on Reddit, the silly fear of being down voted always got to me for some reason.
Oh well, if you get the fear of the downvotes you'll be used to what I was doing most of the time:
Writing a comment, and after 5 minutes of writing, deleting everything while shacking my head.
We're discussing lots of stuff here at the moment to allow people to post without being worry about being judged or harassed, take a stroll around ~tildes and check the various topic :)
Oh, and welcome!
thank you!
oh I know all about the writing / deleting the comment I have done that so many times and thought "why bother"
Hi, I'm Jason and reddit member of 9 years who heard about tilde in a comment thread. I was impressed by the vision laid out in his blog post and hope to see many of the ideas bear fruit. I reached out to Chad for an invite to be a part of something I think could be special.
I'm also a web developer and work in the cyber security industry. My hope is to contribute positively to the community through discussion, code (when the project is open-sourced), and responsibly reporting any security or privacy concerns to the site owners.
My man. Also, welcome. :)
Hello everyone, guamisc here. I came from reddit because I'm looking for something more worthwhile. All of my normal interest and hobby subs had gone sharply downhill and I don't like the way moderation is done over there. The amount of toxicity also has a negative effect on both me and my posting behavior so I'd like to contribute more somewhere else.
I'm a chemical and biomolecular engineer by trade and work in the green and renewable energy and materials space. SciFi/Fantasy books, movies, video games, and TV shows are what I spend a considerable amount of my spare time on. I'm not half bad at industrial controls and PLC programming either.
Edit: I forgot to mention, my wife and I (and our friends) are avid board gamers. Bring on the dice, miniatures, and cards!
Hey everyone, I'm Rain. I've been a Reddit user for over 8 years as u/assumingrain, mostly posting on subreddits like r/fitness, r/taoism, r/engineeringstudents and other random ones that catch my fancy. I enjoy conversations about technology, sciences, news, politics, history, books, philosophy, music and fitness.
I look forward to using tildes. Everything I've heard about the platform is telling me it's going in a positive direction, and I'm glad I get to be a part of it.
I hope everyone has a good weekend!
Hey!
I'm @nayr1991, aka /u/nayr1991.
Hoping to get away from Reddit into a smaller tighter knit community. Reddit has become incredibly greedy with user tracking. The community has become too big in my opinion and is increasingly toxic.
I'm a Linux and Public Cloud consultant from the land of the long white cloud, so I'm excited for some interesting development and tech sub-groups down the road!
Hey all! Yet another reddit user here.
I joined ~ because I'm increasingly uncomfortable with the direction reddit seems to be heading – making reddit closed-source, adding barely-distinguished native advertising, and the apparent lack of care taken with the redesign to name a few. I found out about ~ on /r/StallmanWasRight, in a list of reddit alternatives; it was the only site listed that wasn't focused on exclusively tech and didn't look worryingly like 4chan, and I'm super excited to see where it goes!
Neat, ~ seems to be being mentioned in a lot of really interesting places these days that I had no idea existed before... and that subreddit definitely seems the perfect place for it. Welcome aboard!
Hey, I found it from the same comment, I think! It's a small world, I guess.
Hullo! I am also a Redditfugee, I go by /u/Gerfalcon over there. Looking forward to finding a smaller, more tightly knit community to discuss computer hardware and software, programming, and a whole lot more!
Guess I found some fellow German? Or did I misinterpreted your username? Hello anyway!
Ah no, I'm not German, I know of the gyrfalcon as a pretty cool looking falcon.
Howdy everyone! I've just found my way over here. I'm deIeted on reddit as well. I did not leave reddit due to the redesign (thanks RES). I'm looking for alternatives because the site isn't close the what I had originally joined. I loved that site, but was disappointed Conde Nast finally figured out how to monetize it.
I'm a designer and programmer. I like to tinker with new things and write docs. If the source looks anything like the markup on these pages I'd like to contribute! Next stop, gitlab.
Noticed the boats leaving from Reddit and hitched a ride. I hope to help this site. It’s a brilliant concept.
I came here because someone mentioned it on reddit, and when I found out Deimorz was the creator I had to join!
Unlike most, I'm pretty ambivalent about the redesign. I don't particularly fault reddit for trying to beef up their advertising, and to their credit, they are adding a lot of features I've wanted for years and seem to be really valuing user feedback. It's still pretty hard for me to get past the look, though. Although I like the look in principle, it's sooo hard to get used to after having used reddit since 2011. Given enough time, though, I think I'd grow to like it.
Anyway, I'm u/nty on reddit. I'm a moderator on r/Android and I do occasional phone reviews on the subreddit (mainly phones from Google and LG these days). Like most here, I like this website as an opportunity to have more meaningful, personal, discussion. I don't think I'll ever fully leave Reddit-- it'll just mean something different to me and I'll change how I view it and use it as I've done over the past 7 years.
I am TheEpicOne, but I don't really take to the name; it was originally my gamertag and I kept it for continuity with Reddit where I mostly moderate r/progmetal. I enjoy new ideas so I wanted to be sure and join ~. I'm keen to find conversations about technology, science, philosophy, politics, and of course music. I'm a big time lurker but sometimes have an original (or not) thought to share.
I'm excited to try out the site as it is and new features as they come. It looks very promising. So thanks for having me, and don't mind me!
You'll fit right in.
I've always enjoyed conversations on Reddit with a lot of depth, or rather I enjoy reading them because there's many different viewpoints. They encourage a lot of thought or exploration of new ideas which is enjoyable.
I'm @Eeyore. Happy to be here, and can't wait to watch everything come together to create a solid platform for civil discussion, where everyone with good intentions feels welcome. This is the first discussion board where I am not afraid to comment/post. Feels good.
Hi there, I'm here from reddit as well. I've been disgruntled since before the profiles and chat and redesign, but I've recently reached the point of just being fed up with everything. The algorithm screwed up my front page, I'm sick of seeing "promoted" posts, I resent being forced to have a profile, and I'm sick of power mods and power users. ~ is really appealing to me because it's so small and quiet right now, it feels like an old school internet forum but it's still so nice and clean. I have high hopes for this project!
Hi all,
Also a reddit migrant. I've been getting more and more fed up with the quality of reddit lately. There is still some good content in spots, but its increasingly the exception and not the rule. I've been waiting for the MySpace -> Facebook / Digg ->reddit style transition to take care of things for awhile now. This seems like the best alternative to come along from the few I've seen so far, it seems like it has the best chance of success, and active participation in an early website is all that keeps it alive so I'm just here to do my part.
Hey everyone, I learned about this site from reddit like probably most of you. I dread about the direction reddit is going at the moment. It became apparent with the redesign that they want to incorporate the same UX that major social platforms utilize in order to increase their user retention and ad exposure for the sake of appeasing their shareholders.
When I learned about Tildes and that it's being developed as a non-profit, it appealed to me instantly. This means that this site will always be with the user in mind first and it won't fall into the same traps that reddit appears to be falling into.
Hi folks. I'm reseph, same username on Reddit. I've contributed a bit of code to Reddit in the past when it was open source. Been on Reddit for almost 10 years.
Now I run some Final Fantasy subreddits and hold media interviews with Square Enix.
Welcome to ~ :)
Kind of annoying they closed it all back up again, isn’t it? :(
That is why @deimos is leaning towards AGPLv3 which is written to "ensure the code (and anything built on top of it) will always remain open-source" so “anyone that contributes code to Tildes can do so knowing that it can never be closed off, for profit or any other reason.”
Hello there, what do you think of final fantasy X? I love that game, so it's my go to question, if I see some Final Fantasy people out there!
I'm a huge fan of X, but I don't know if it's in my top 3 FFs.
Hey, I'm a fellow redditor. I've had a lot of different accounts over the years (my most recent account is/was [redacted]), and I was never a moderator anywhere, but I was tired with the indifference of reddit's admins to hate groups, and the redesign, which doubled the load time for me. I'm hoping to find some better discussions here.
Hello there!
General Kenobi!Like many, I am concerned about the direction reddit is taking. Redesign related hate (though I actually like the redesign), ads, the data collection. The list goes on and on.
I saw tilde mentioned, glanced at the announcement, passed over it with a meh, then came back when I realized who was running it.
Hello everyone,
Seems like a good place for my first comment.
I don't dislike reddit (maybe because I am there just a year and so missed the decline of quality?), except for the redesign, it still is valuable for me.
But it is seldom you get the chance to get on a brandnew community with exciting goals and grow potential. I don't know yet how I will use tildes. But I am excited to see where this is going.
Let's find out.
