I specifically tried to be as vague as possible because I don't want to poison the well of someone trying to form their own opinion about this.
I personally don't use Twitter, so if you'd ask me what he said I don't entirely know, hence the vague wording. The word "inflammatory" was entirely based on the.. heated opinionated responses.. I've seen thrown around about this both here and elsewhere on the web.Edit to add: I also remember some backlash against supposed ties to Russian corporations. Yandex in particular if I'm not mistaken.

We frequently hear about super large mega deposits of rare earth metals being found but despite that we somehow appear to be shackled to the whims of China regardless.
The reason for this is, is that rare earth metals aren't particularly rare, it's that for these metals it's exceedingly difficult and expensive to set up the mining-to-refinement supply chain.
We can mine them perfectly fine in Europe or Africa or America, but we don't have the expertise to refine them into usable products we need so much. The fact that Finland is setting up the refinement is particularly noteworthy, while the mining itself is not.

They've ingratiated themselves by providing a rather lax return policy, respond quickly to scams or rugpulls by refunding people, decent to good hardware launches, long time support for their own games and software, generally fairly priced games, don't block you from adding your own games to your library, and aside from their gambling problem don't seem to want to gouge the consumer for all they're worth. They're relatively scandal free because of their secretive nature and their laissez faire approach to the consumer is worth something these days.
The 30% fee is steep but doesn't hit the consumer in any way, so it's easy to wave away as a non issue, their gambling is tucked away within their own games and hides it from most, and not owning games is par for the course (to their very minor credit, at least they're upfront about it). I don't particularly experience Steam as a resource hog, but I'll take your word for it.
Look, I'm not entirely on board with the starry eyed praise Valve gets from everyone, they have their share of problems, but they've undoubtedly made a more consumer friendly and frictionless experience for a boatload of people. To say they're perfect is incorrect, but to lump them in with the likes of EA is also not true.

The sub header claims this is instructional for democrats (US democratic party adherents?) but then generally outlines some metrics at how the US is already outperforming Europe. So what's there to learn?
Is it a hit piece on European immigration policy then? Unfortunately it's not clear and some of the metrics used are spurious and/or irrelevant in a European context. Comparing the UK Pakistani diaspora to the US Pakistani diaspora shows a definitive lack of understanding why they're "underperforming" in the UK. They didn't just show up one day as refugees y'know.
But most crucially, if it is indeed a critique of EU policy, it fails to ask and answer the most important question: Does the EU even want this type of immigration to succeed?

I'm in 100% agreement with your post but this. It's just not possible with all media companies hoarding their IPs like dragon gold. Netflix has plenty of things they did themselves that made it a shitty service, but losing access to certain licenses isn't entirely their fault. Disney pretty much pulled their entire library from Netflix overnight because they wanted their own slice of the pie.
No new, good service will have the chance to get a library that rivals the early days of Netflix. So this fractured mess is what we're stuck with for the foreseeable future.

Not only does everything trend towards ultimate annoyance, it also makes me go through that cycle again and again, buying something that looks good because the old one sucked only for it to start behaving terribly in short order and making me do it again.
I bought a baby monitor three years ago and the associated app is becoming a blight, asking for more and more unnecessary (literally, I can deny and it still works) permissions and adding in AI stuff when I just need it to open the damn camera.

Check out Windrose too! It was just released to early access but from what I can tell, the ship combat is at least reminiscent of Black Flag. It's a little janky, but not where it matters.

The difference in convenience is truly jarring.

Correct, that was Kagi. Mentioning Proton in the same breath was flippant of mine. I apologize, I had a pretty serious lack of sleep for the past couple of days.
However, not knowing the specific words of the CEO doesn't mean it wasn't enough for me to see the heated debate about their politics. The fact they're supportive of the Republican party is enough for some. I don't think I was in the wrong for mentioning it in the absolute vaguest terms in order to point someone in the direction of looking it up after they directly asked what the current stance is towards Proton. I know that they lost customers over this, that's enough for me to mention it's worth looking into for some.
