My wife and I bought a house back in April, but we don't take possession until September (it's a new build). So I'm excited about moving, but I also feel like I'm getting a little burned out on that excitement. Like I've been excited since we had a signed offer back in April, and now it's such a long wait. I guess I need to work on my delayed gratification.

That's so wholesome. Relish those days! I love spending time outside with my daughters, and doubly so when we're doing something active like that.

This last week, I went to see Sorry to Bother You. This film was, in a word, bizarre. I had a lot of fun, and left the cinema with more than a couple questions about what I had just watched.

IMDB's synopsis nicely describes the film without giving too much away:

In an alternate present-day version of Oakland, telemarketer Cassius Green discovers a magical key to professional success, propelling him into a universe of greed.

The key in that synopsis is the "alternate present-day". The world of this film is different than our world, but not so far off that it's unbelievable.... at first. Throughout the film, things get more and more absurd, and saying anything more would be giving too much away.

The film has a definite message. From capitalism and class warfare to the prison system and slavery, this film is very upfront with its opinions. It is far from subtle. And while it kinda beats you over the head with it, the absurdity of what I was watching kept me engaged.

Unique, hilarious, and brilliantly acted, Sorry to Bother You was one of the best films I've seen this year. It's not perfect, as I feel the ending could have been tightened up, with a few unnecessary scenes. But for a directorial debut, it was pretty awesome. And the soundtrack, all done by The Coup, has been on my Spotify since.

Overall, I'll give the film 4 stars of 5. I'd love to watch it again!

I laughed way harder at this than I should have. I did not expect a Killers reference this morning. Kudos!

We simply don't have stringent enough water quality regulations, so the government can (and has in the past) done enough to meet those regulations while still leaving thousands without potable water.

I've been trying really hard to get into the newest album from Dawes, Passwords.

Every one of their albums goes through the same process for me. First I'm excited about it, then I'm disappointed and just want it to be the same as their previous album, then I find nuggets that I like, then I come around to the rest of the album. The whole process can take 30+ listens, though.

Currently, I'm in that third stage. I really like Stay Down and Feed The Fire, as I feel they're closest to their early work. I'll come around to the others, though.

Beyond that, I've been going back to my mid-90's Canadian rock roots listening to Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth and Matthew Good Band. I'm a sucker for nostalgia

This may sound ridiculous, especially to a Canadian, but the Tragically Hip certainly didn't attain the success outside of Canada that I believe they could have. They had some mild success on college radio, and they were on SNL back in 1994, but they never achieved the same level of success and fervor that they did in Canada. Of course, that could have been part of the reason they were so popular in Canada, because we felt like we had something nobody else knew about.

I agree with you on Picard. He was high-ranking and business-like when needed, and was also a true renaissance man -- a fan of the arts, music, literature and poetry. He was gracious in both victory and defeat. He was a boss, a friend, a father, and a mentor.

I remember dressing up as Captain Picard for Halloween when I was nine. Like you say, an excellent role model.

If ever there was information I didn't know I needed, this was it! I live in significantly smaller city than NYC, and even here I'd like a way to track construction projects!

I certainly agree that the ability for a mod to explain the deletion of a comment or thread is very useful. But, depending on how large things get, putting it all on a moderator could be overload....

Like you suggest, that job could go to trusted users. I'd also argue that a "report" feature for regular users could work as well. Allow users to report unwanted behavior, have it verified by a mod or trusted user, and then the comment can be deleted, with a note in its stead listing the report reason, reporter, and mod/trusted user. Perhaps the reporter's name should be left off that note, though. Not sure.
