I think enshitification is cool and all (I mean not literally, but you know), I am just a little frustrated because as someone who studies social theory and enjoys technology, it feels like people in the tech world are obsessed with trying to invent something new out of something that already exists. Enshitification isn't a new concept, it is just the profit motive that drives capitalism. The profit motive incentivizes making your product shittier so that you can make more money. They just don't make x like they used to is a real sentiment because they really don't. Enshitification is a cool word to describe the process that is inherit to capitalism, but it ultimately describes nothing new, and frankly in my personal opinion, obfuscates the real issue at hand, that being the profit motive. It is for all intents and purposes written in to the our economic system that products will auto enshitify themselves. Maybe it is most prominent in technological circles because much like any culture related to technology or the internet it moves so quickly that something that would normally last a lifetime (a cultural paradigm) could last only a few years.

Just my two cents as someone in the social theory world, enshitifcation feels very surface level, very liberal, insofar that it doesn't explain why products feel like they're becoming shittier. The reason products are shitty is because the company making them is trying to make as much profit as possible, and if it is a public company than really the companies job is delivering an ever increasing profit to shareholders, which is without fail unsustainable unlimited profit growth in a finite world is impossible and yet they continue trying leading to products becoming shittier and shittier.

I have been thinking about this for a while now so I hope it made sense, and I mean no hate, I am just hoping we can all dig a little deeper, look for the problem at the source rather than where we are now. :)

I subscribed because a lot of the creators I followed posted to it. I mainly use it to watch jet lag videos early lol. Tbh I don't use it all that often but with the sheer number of creators I watch who are a part of it I'm more than happy to continue to subscribe. I'd like to move away from using YouTube in general so this is a nice backup.

I also agree the video was basically an infomercial, but idk there's something about sam he just makes everything so interesting and I just love him and his writers (minus a few things they're certainly not perfect).

This is also one of the demands of the current WGA strike, and not necessarily the fault of pirates.

This is really cool! It reminds me of those old national park posters you can get, I don't remember how I just remember my friend showing me how they printed it on to a poster for their room.

I haven't heard of Moxfield but I am going to check it out! Some of my fondest memories were playing edh with friends on tabletop during the early pandemic!

I am in Scotland for a little vacation with a friend, and am looking for recs! We are mainly in Edinburgh, but have a car and are open to just about anything! I don't really mess with touristy stuff, but am willing to try if you think its worthwhile! Also will be here for the rest of the week! We are planning on going to the gardens for sure, but other than that don't really have a whole lot planned. I would like to go to Galloway at night and see the milky way though. I love the scenery so I don't mind a short drive. Thanks :)

Also I cannot recommend Eden enough, its so good and fun to play but hard to master. They have a new version coming out thats an online fighting game that looks like a lot of fun.

Video game pretty much any rogue like but recently it has been peglin, or one step from eden (its like a mega man battle network type game so much fun). A book I have recently read was Teaching To Transgress by bell hooks, it was so so so good highly recommend!

Hello! I joined a little while ago, but after the original post. I am eggy (he/him), a username I liked, but is certainly not my only one. Hmm what else to share, I enjoy technology, but I have no formal training in anything related to it. My dad taught teachers how to use technology in classes and so he always had access to the newest and coolest tech that he showed me how to use growing up. I joined here from I think a user on tilde.town, but maybe tilde.club. I am studying to be a teacher (idk why im doignt his to myself). I also am mostly a lurker, I tend to forget about tildes, but then ill check it out and it always has cool discussion. I love all kinds of games (board, video, and card among whatever is left). I love reading and political, and social theory. It is very cool to see everyone here! I will try to start learning names. I need to get tildes on my email full of news for the day so i dont miss posts!!
