I think whatever is on the default firmware is less than the crosspoint one. It also has KORsync I think? not sure if that is different from calibre sync. It is really only meant for .epub files. With that being said I know there are extensions to turn webpages into .epubs, as well as converting word docs. I am pretty sure you can also connect to it via terminal using curl and webhooks, so it should be pretty scriptable.

It is very small scope, the x4 at least is an esp32 based system. However I quite enjoy mine, I have read a lot more because of it. It works exceptionally well with books that have smaller chapters imo.

I will look into it!! I have a plex server already so I imagine it can't be that difficult to setup on it? Just adding a new library? Thanks!

To add a little more, a while ago I got an XTEINK mini e-reader and I haven't read this many books in this short a time since I was much younger. Wondering/hoping having a dedicated music ,listening device will do the same for music (I hardly listen to new music even though I really want to!!)

Hey all, I'm looking for some recommendations for mp3 players. Specifically though I'm looking for two different recommendations. I have a seventh grader I teach who is really interested in getting started with mp3 files (that she has yet to acquire), so a cheaper device if possible. I, on the other hand, have a solid yet growing collection of FLAC files I would love to listen to not on my phone, so I'm willing to splurge a little more for this. I tried searching tildes for it but couldn't find anything that suit my need. I know about the tangara (I think thats how it is spelled?) but I can't seem to find if I can even buy it anymore :/ Thanks!!!

In college I worked for our schools makerspace. I was I guess really good at my job, so I got all the cool projects to work on. My boss was incredibly chill and the work culture was really relaxed. I got to mess around a lot, and my silliness was all but encouraged. It was really fun and paid relatively well, especially when i was promoted to student supervisor. I got to help my boss with a lot of crazy projects, laser cutting, CNC milling, working with patrons in 1on1 sessions, all the while I could have fun. My former boss basically offered me their job as they were promoted, but I don't think I can give up teaching now. I basically would fill up on as many hours possible, because half the time I just got to mess around on my laptop. It was so much fun actually 10/10 if u are in college, try and work for the makerspace!!

I would love to do archival work. Especially around the internet. Double points if it also involves an educational aspect!

I am a big fan of the shade garden, and of course the Japanese Garden as well. If you have kids it is an even better stop as the childrens garden is one of the coolest

MAM is def the way to start, find some things you can upload, and then from MAM go to OPH, ive been stuck grinding cds (like 15 more to go before i get access to their invite forum!), but from there you have access to so much. As other commenters have said though, paying for usenet may be more worth your while (especially if you wait for something like black friday). In terms of music, books, and general media I have not found it a struggle keeping my ratio up. To be fair though I don't devour content, especially in music I don't download a much and try and just use FL tokens. Happy to send u links to places if you want to dm!

Actually I think Libro.fm has audiobooks without DRM. At least I've bought some and gotten an MP3 or sometimes a different file format (m4a?, m3u, one of those i think) which works all the same.

Well initially my first suggestion is Bandcamp, it's where I legally source all MP3s I want (or in this case FLAC). I personally haven't found any other sources though. With larger artists who don't have a bandcamp (T_T) I usually am just buying their CD and ripping it with Whipper. Hope this helps!

Editing with my reply elsewhere in the thread, but Libro.fm has provided me with some DRM free audiobooks. You can sync purchases with a local book store i think.

That is awesome though that you play mtg too!! You've got like the perfect setup for what you want with self hosting, you should totally take the leap!! Feel free to PM if you have any questions! (but probably worth mentioning again that I'm no pro, just a hobby I love!)

Currently teaching mostly seventh graders (save me 😭). That being said though I really like computers (nixOS all the way!!!) so I pretty literate though by all means not a developer! :)

I think it'll be a really good one, and I am just so excited to experience everything! Of course it won't be without its many many struggles, but that'll just make the highs so much higher!! I am going to try and learn so much this year!

I might just be not good at this, but typing c in the console log does nothing (on firefox), it just wants to correct to cache, and if I try 'c' it returns "c". Would love to see how this works!
