40 gods, 40 hours
I set myself up a bit of a challenge to get myself back in the spirit of writing. The past couple of days yielded 3.5K words and I know I can keep it going. Point is, a long time ago, I made up this huge pantheon of forty god-like figures, collectively named as "the Archonians", but in my haste to create, I don't really know what they do. That's where you come in. Chose an Archonian from the forty and I'll come up with something and write about it here in the comments. The Archonians have their own subdivisions (as seen at the top) to firmly state a semblance of some organization. The table list thing is down below.
THE OCTEMURA | THE OCTARCHS | THE CITY AUTOMOLETH | THE DIVINE CHROMAS | THE SUNDERING |
---|---|---|---|---|
NEREBULEXUS | NEBRETHALIS | NEOSDYMIUM | RHUVOSKARN | MALRETHOPHILIS |
LOKHARATH | URHAROTHI | RHANEIUM | ORECANTHYS | SALHAROLKA |
KHESTRIEGEON | VASKRYGEON | VANDIGIUM | Y'LTHOREN | KRYONVHASRE |
ZEPHYRION | ZENROSYNE | CHROVORMIUM | GRYMELDYS | SETROSINI |
DHOROKHEIM | DHORVOKHA | DORITHIUM | BELUZANETHE | ARVOGHAN |
KALU-JINRAITH | KARNETH-VO | ARK-ZIRON | INVORTHYS | NELOSGORE |
SINNETERNON | SYNARION | SYNALLIUM | VIOSCARNON | KALNAINRET |
ADSTREMUL | DORN'ILASTRI | NULBITINIUM | NULLAVANDYS | NAKRE-SENRE |
Note: Bolded names beneath the Archonian nomenclature are already done/commented on.
Y'LTHOREN is calling my name. Tell me about them!
Y'LTHOREN, Archonian of Malphos' Divine Chromas
Y'LTHOREN, Keeper of the Celestial Youth, is third in ranking of Malphos' "Divine Chromas". Being the "yellow" part of the spectrum wrought by the Cosmicrystal, the energies of Y'lthoren are based in the warmth and vibrancy of youth. Although appearing as an innocent youthful god, from deep within, Y'lthoren hides a tempestuous wrath greater than any of the Divine Chromas.
Nerebulexus is the god of fancy cars right?
Lol jk, let's do the head honcho (at least I assume being listed first). Also what do the different subdivisions mean/do?
I lol'ed - the first row is the name of the Archonian group nomenclature. There are five beings which gave them the..."group names", for lack of a better term at the moment. Those five beings are regarded as "the Pentarchs" - Kaphnos, Eidos, Aeltros, Genhuos, and Malphos. The Archonians of Eidos came last, due to its banishment.
NEREBULEXUS, Archonian of Kaphnos' Octemura
NEREBULEXUS, the Great Shroud of All Things Known, is both a veil of darkness and of light. It is that which holds the dusk until dawn, it is that which holds the dawn until dusk in a cycle that stretches into eternity and beyond. It is both everywhere and nowhere, guarding the threshold of wakefulness and sleep.
Does SYNARION have a connection to SYNALLIUM or is it a coincidence with naming?
In the beginning, there was one world at the behest of The Host. For a time, all things were silent, until The Host spoke the first words that filled the cosmos and all that dwelled within. These words were named as "The Five Providences" and became manifest as real creation from its breath - Kaphnos, Eidos, Aeltros, Genhuos, and Malphos. They became known as the champions of the cosmos - the Pentarchy - with their charge being the breadth of all things known. From there, five divisions were claimed, five worlds in one accordance to the will of The Host[.]
SYNARION, Archonian of Aeltros' Octarchs
Synarion, the Whisper of Change, moves like a phantom unseen. Its voice is spoken in the quietest whisper that carries through the thoughts of man. As an agent of transformations, the results of its influence are known only after the change had been wrought. The propensities of its changes are always minute and subtle.
INVORTHYS sounds interesting, or mundane, let's see?
INVORTHYS, Archonian of Malphos' Divine Chromas
INVORTHYS, Keeper of the Umbraic Haze, is sixth in ranking of Malphos' "Divine Chromas". Being the "indigo" part of the spectrum wrought by the Cosmicrystal, the form of Invorthys can only be seen at the time the light gives way to dusk. Its light casts illusions in the minds of men, leading them astray with promises soon revealed to be empty, however, in its deepest false truths lies something in which mortals are never meant to see.
SETROSINI Please! I like the name, curious what the sundering means as well :D
Written in the depths of the deepest time[...]EIDOS could no longer wreak havoc in the place of NEUROTH, yet it was as cunning as it hungered with sin[.] As it was the harbinger of destruction, in its place[...]the SUNDERING was born, eight foul kings of the darkest stars, things that which were wretched and poisonous to the mortal mind[.]
SETROSINI, Archonian of Eidos' Sundering
"It was said that in the summoning between the glyphs of S/E/T/R/O/S/I/N/I[sic], the soul of who performed the ritual would be torn from the body and displayed in the altar's center[...]and the true reflection of those who would gaze upon this meager soul would find their crux of fears and regrets[,] magnifying them until they overwhelmed the beholder[.] Its form shifted constantly, a grotesque amalgamation of the dread of question and familiar, yet distant, terror."
These are awesome! I am reading through your other answers and loving them!
Thank you! Having fun tossing out stuff that sounds like answers to the masses!
Id like to hear about NEBRETHALIS - big brother of the underworld? :P
NEBRETHALIS, Archonian of Aeltros' Octarchs
"[...A]nd there it stood, the firstborn of the Octarchs, a being of impossible proportions, its surface gleaming bright with the reflections of all who witnessed it[.] [...I]n the quake of its silence, it was given the gift of clarity, [...b]eing able to perceive the true nature of all things good and all things evil[...]and although it had not been gifted a voice of its own[,] [...i]t spoke through an echo from which others who are lost could once more find their way[.]"
Oo very cool OP! π Hope your creative streak continues!!
ARK-ZIRON is definitely up to something interesting I'm sure.
ARK-ZIRON, Archonian of Genhuos' The City Automoleth
ARK-ZIRON, Lord of the Golden Vaults, is the sixth Archonian of the sentient City Automoleth megastructure. It is an endless, ever-expanding city that constructs infinite arrays of vault-like structures in every direction. Held within the vaults is unknown, theorized to be either recursive spaces that lead outside the City Automoleth or gateways to the realms of other gods.
I enjoy the Divine Chromas are just ROYGBIV with an N at the end for what I assume to be the absence of colour, given the start of that name.
Let's hear about VIOSCARNON.
I wasn't even paying attention to that pattern; what caught my eye is that the City Automoleth names look vaguely like metallic element names and the Sundering might have some noble gases in there.
VIOSCARNON, Archonian of Malphos' Divine Chromas
"The One Great Teacher, Gyses of Mettoran, stood with his eyes closed in deep reverence, praying to the gods in his secret place, however, one of his followers, Vosca, beheld him in the midst of his silent ritual. Without movement, Gyses asked 'who dwells upon me here?' His follower, in bated breath, replied 'It is Vosca.' and Gyses knew this response to be true. Gyses continued without turning around 'Know that you have sought out my most secret place and it would be unkind for me to remove you. Know that even if you are my follower, if you had stepped a single foot closer, the sanctity between you and I would be broken. As I am merciful, speak not of this place for it holds great mystery. You are the blessed one and will be the only one to know.'"
Worship in secret, huh? Fits with my username I guess. The first half, at least.
I'm a little curious as to what effect the Divine Chromas have had on the world, why they are so revered, and I guess what role VIOSCARNON specifically had in creating the interaction in the original reply.
The mythos ain't anything the Ephemerus Vita (ancient "holy text") would tell you. In fact, Kaphnos (the Pentarch of the "Prime State") directly warns his followers that to perceive other worlds, merely even speaking of them, leads to the death of the body and soul. As the five worlds are somewhat one in the same, for the Pentarch Malphos (Prism State), the Ephemerus Vita equivalent would be the "Codex Chromatiphon", where Malphos warns his own followers to not dwell too much on the natures of the "chromas beneath the red". This means that the last three of the Divine Chromas do not really have the good will of humanity in mind.
I think I have a bottle of ZENROSYNE around here somewhere. What's it all about?
ZENROSYNE, Archonian of Aeltros' Octarchs
ZENROSYNE, the Keeper of the Cosmic Scale, was tasked by Aeltros to keep the measurement of all things known to ensure that for every creation, there was an equal countermeasure, for every act, a counterbalance to uphold the unifying threads of order. To ZENROSYNE, the very concept of good and evil is an exercise in futility.
Some say that the shaman cult of the S'Thulus believe that a certain writing by nineteenth century theosophist Hermanus Cowan holds the key to spiritually traversing folds between the stars through the intercession of their god. They claim that it briefly touched the surface of the unformed, primordial earth, and that in its next revolution, it will return to aid its followers in avoidance of what they call the Gulaas Kl'abri, or Expurgation. Few have encountered the sequestered K'niah halls of the S'Thulus, but each has reported them to resemble the same dark, spiraling burrows which faintly echo with the hissing chants of the n'Dorn-Gulaptha:
Tell me about the cosmic DORN'ILASTRI!
(Many thanks to your insight, O Prophet Sh'Ameds Al'Mon!)
DORN'ILASTRI, Archonian of Aeltros' Octarchs
DORN'ILASTRI, The Great Wayfinder of the Horizon, is as radiant as the first light of dawn. DORN'ILASTRI is said to give explorers insights and visions of places they have never visited, and DORN'ILASTRI is their greatest champion. Conversely, some sects believe that DORN'ILASTRI is a false god due to a majority of religious texts not including the Archonian until the late 17th century.
I want to follow Nullavandys. How evil am I?
NULLAVANDYS, Archonian of Malphos' Divine Chromas
"nullavandys is one nullavandys is zero nullavandys is full nullavandys is empty nullavandys is light nullavandys is dark nullavandys is real nullavandys is false nullavandys is mortal nullavandys is god nullavandys is nothing nullavandys is everything nullavandys is logic nullavandys is chaos nullavandys is law nullavandys is disorder N/U/L/L/A/V/A/N/D/Y/S[sic]" -Excerpt from the Black Tessalogi, Author Unknown.
I see that chaotic element where you contrast "real" with "false". That certainly isn't part of the "logic" aspect of nullavandys. I will have to meditate on the subject for my seven upcoming nights of insomnia.
"[...I]magine, if you may, a color which, unwavering in its terrifying hue, does not exist[.]" -One of the final verses from the Black Tessalogi, Author Unknown.
Oh, wait. It's black, isn't it? It's right in the name! Black! What foul heresy am I committing? Has my father, when I was a young boy, taken me into the city, to see a marching band?
"Nullavandys is the only one of the Divine Chromas to have charge over the dead. It is said that in the end of times, Nullavandys and its dark followers will rise from their graves and perform a great clash and clamoring over the living, like an unstoppable infernal marching band on their blackest parade."
As I complete my seven nights of insomniac meditation, thus disrespecting each of the other seven divine chromas in turn by rejecting the light of their days, I shall finally be endarkened. All extant colour will leech from my soul, and time will fold in on itself, granting me access to the 8th day of the week, the day that is real and yet false, the day at the end of time, where I'll join the chaos of the parade for an eternal moment of perfect blackness.
"In the study of quantum mechanics, the classical definition of time as a linear continuity is increasingly being challenged by empirical observations and theoretical advancements in the sciences. The phenomenon of quantum superposition and entanglement suggests that temporal intervals are not merely passive measures of change but are, instead, intrinsically malleable constructs influenced by the underlying probabilistic nature of quantum states. To further consider the implications of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation, which encapsulates the dynamics of quantum gravity and posits a universal backdrop, this yields further discourse regarding the ontological status of time itself. If it is to be accepted that temporal intervals can be influenced by the observer's frame of reference, as demonstrated in the context of relativistic quantum field theory, then reconsiderations to renew the implications for causality are therefore needed. Moreover, recent explorations into the decoherence of quantum systems reveal that the act of measurement not only collapses the wave function in varying degrees but may also induce a reconfiguration of temporal experience. As systems transition from coherent superpositions to classical states, the perceived flow of time may undergo significant alterations, suggesting that time is not a singular dimension but rather a dynamic parameter that adjusts in accordance with quantum interactions." -From the publications of Emeritus Professor of Quantum Engineering, Dr. Daniel Donovan Clementine
Who is Lokharath and what makes them tick?
LOKHARATH, Archonian of Kaphnos' Octemura
LOKHARATH, the Pillar that Holds the Sun, is a towering figure consisting of the most perfect stones and smelted iron. It is the embodiment of pure endurance and upholds the weight of the infinite skies. It is usually depicted with a bright shining sun located at the top of its height, a symbol that both sees all and is a metaphor for justice.
Pillar in the metaphorical sense, its role being the holding up of the skies or is it a literal column of stone that (being also sapient/sentient?) is divine?
The Archonians innately have no form as the "Ephemerus Vita" (an ancient "holy text") states they chose to manifest themselves in a way that best reflects their nature, but in their visible forms, they cannot retain them permanently. Think of them all (mostly) as phenomena.
