I just finished up Octopath Traveler 2, and was incredibly impressed. I loved the first one, but it lost its shine once I started working towards the epilogue. The sequel however is better in every single way, leading me to fully complete it. I loved how the epilogue neatly tied together everyone’s side quests, and the characters themselves. They all seemed much more likable than the first games’. If you have any interest in turn based RPGs please give it a shot

I’m extremely excited to try it! I backed it long long ago, and have since changed my product to the console version after abandoning PC gaming for console. I absolutely loved SS2 when I first played it a decade ago and it would be so cool to finally play the first game. Definitely psyched to replay SS2 on console when that comes out eventually too

MML1&2 definitely helped define my childhood. I still maintain they’re better Zelda games than OoT and MM, and I will die on this hill

I have a couple major and a few minor ones:

Donkey Kong Country - Not my first video game, but the first one I remember and the first one I actually played by myself with the intent to complete. I’m not sure what possessed my parents to buy a SNES for me because I don’t think I had ever expressed interest in games. Maybe they just figured “hey endyfrs is almost 5, maybe they’d like this popular game/console”, but the rest is history. I have such weird core memories of playing this late at night with my mom and my older cousin, getting reasonably deep into the game and staying up way later than any of us should have. It is also the first game I beat. DKC is solely responsible for starting my gaming journey.

Gran Turismo 1 - Similarly, playing the demo of this at a friends house hooked me on the racing genre. I’d played Top Gear on SNES beforehand and loved it, but GT ignited an interest in cars that I’m not sure would’ve happened otherwise. Immediately after playing this demo I wanted a PlayStation, and it continued my journey. I would become fascinated with cars and motorsport, a love that lasts to this day. GT remains one of the few series I will immediately buy on launch.

Metroid Fusion - Introduced me to my other absolute favorite series. I somehow skipped Super Metroid growing up, so this was my first introduction. I fell in love with the gameplay, the atmosphere, the music, everything. Despite being a mostly quiet protagonist, I looked up to Samus. She is exactly what I wanted to be, the badass space bounty hunter that can handle anything. I knew I’d be stuck on earth but 12 year old me dreamt of having the adventures she had. I’d later learn how to emulate games to experience the three previous ones (and thankfully play Zero Mission before getting too frustrated with the first game). Metroid Dread’s announcement and positive release made me the happiest I have ever been in recent memory.

Roller Coaster Tycoon - Made me into a coaster nerd, simple. Also taught me how to alt-tab. Yes, I know that’s a weird fact.

Einhander - Reinforced my appreciation of my parents. I wanted the game, but it wasn’t exactly common even close to when it released. My dad hunted everywhere and my mom scoured eBay. She finally sniped an auction and I got my prized copy. It sits among my copies of Tomba 1 & 2 and Megaman Legends 1 & 2 as “games that I wanted on a whim that my parents got not knowing how rare they’d eventually be”. I still refuse to sell any of them even as I see their value climb because of the personal value they hold

I’m embarrassed to admit that after the whole Reddit shutdown, I’m at a loss on how to get news. The past 10+ years my internet routine has been browse Something Awful for discussions, and use Reddit as a glorified RSS. I would open up Reddit, browse World News, Politics, Technology, Games, Apple, and Electric Vehicles for any interesting articles for the day. Then go to SA for more granular discussions, which I’m now using Tildes to supplement since I love the community here.

I have tried downloading Inoreader and adding some of their default feeds but it feels super cluttered, not like the quick concise headlines I’m used to casually browsing. I’ll admit I’m guilty of just glancing at headlines and not actually reading news, but it was nice to just have an inkling of what’s going on in the world

So the question I ask is how (mostly on the internet) do you get your news? RSS? Dedicated news app? Read a site?

    Insomnia for me.

In January of 2021 I went to bed one night and couldn’t fall asleep. No big deal, I’ve literally never been one to fall right asleep, even when conditions are perfect. This time however, it just never came. My alarm came and it didn’t shock me awake because, well, I’d been awake the past 8 hours. Went to work, got home, did my normal hanging out, took a shower and thought about how good sleep would feel. Went to bed, fell right asleep…

…For an hour and immediately woke up. Spent the rest of the night unsuccessfully trying to fall back asleep. Next day comes and I buy some melatonin and ZzzQuil after work. Take them both, shower, lay down. Asleep for an hour or so and then awake the entire night. Morning eventually comes and I’m going crazy. I don’t know why my brain is the way it is, I break down crying, I call my mom crying, I’m convinced I have some kind of mental condition and it’s all over. I calm down enough and call my doctor. She calls in a prescription of Trazodone. I grab that after leaving work early (spooking one of my managers, she later remarked after I’d told her I was leaving and left she had the sudden revelation of “wait a second endyfrs has never done that” and became super concerned), and I’m ecstatic. Everyone I spoke to says that Trazodone knocked them out. I take the recommended dose and… nothing. Absolutely nothing happened. I lay terrified for 8 hours because not even this is doing anything. Morning comes, I call off, call my doctor, explain that Trazodone didn’t work, and basically just calmly begging for help. She says she has one more to try and calls in Mirtazapine. I mentally roll my eyes because I figure it won’t work. I pick it up, take a dose before bed, and fall asleep for two whole hours. I wake up, look at the clock, sarcastically think “oh yay, a tiny bit of progress” and close my eyes again

Turns out I slept two more hours! I realize what happened and close my eyes again. Two more hours go by, wake, and then two more. It may not have been continuous but it’s more sleep than I’ve gotten the whole week! The next week I settled into a pattern, including getting whole continuous nights sleep. I’ve been on it since, knocking my dosage down to a quarter of what I started with plus 1mg melatonin. It’s not foolproof, if I don’t properly mentally wind down or do something dumb like eat a ton of sugar I’ll have issues falling asleep but it does eventually come.

Such a bizarre issue to come all of a sudden the instant I hit 30

After falling in love with Black Dresses, I’d dove deeper into Ada Rook’s catalogue and found a new favorite album in last year’s UGLY DEATH NO REDEMPTION ANGEL CURSE I LOVE YOU. Retains her wild lyrics and experimental noise edge but with a much more industrial focus.

I’d also given Tove Lo’s most recent album, Dirt Femme, another chance and some of it is really coming around to me. Standouts being No One Dies From Love, 2 Die 4, and Grapefruit
