    Rocky Beach: Eine Interpretation

I am sorry if talking about comics is not allowed here, but I looked at the "comics" tag and didn't find a "What are you reading" automated topic. Also, Rocky Beach is a spin-off of a book series so hopefully it goes.

So, Rocky Beach is, as said, a spin-off of the very popular "The Three Investigators" book series.
    Directly from Wikipedia:

The Three Investigators is an American juvenile detective book series first published as Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators. The characters known as the "Three Investigators" are three boys named Jupiter Jones, Peter Crenshaw, and Bob Andrews. Most of the novels cover some sort of mysterious events that seem to be supernatural at first (e.g. an ancient Egyptian mummy that appears to be whispering) but are ultimately explained scientifically.

The books (and especially radio dramas - the so-called Hörspiele) are also wildly popular in Germany with over 200 books and episodes being written and recorded. It is meant for maybe a bit of a younger public, but the books and radio dramas are a load of fun and the cases are really interesting. It's great stuff for some light reading and something to listen to for falling asleep.

So, back to the original topic. There are now 2 really beautiful comic book spin-offs called "Rocky Beach: Eine Interpretation" and "Justus Jonas: Eine Interpretation" and I am reading the first one now. It is an reimagining of the future where the three investigators are all grown up and a bit of introspection into the characters. The first book (Rocky Beach) is 200 pages long, but I am taking my sweet time with it because it's really beautiful and I'm engrossing myself into the art and the story.

I'm looking forward to seeing what case they solve and I am getting a feeling what the case is going to be after going through 50 pages. And then, after that, I get to enjoy the second book. All in all, up until now, a great recommendation and an absolute recommendation whoever wants to give the book series and radio drama series a try, they are really good.

I've played most Assassin's Creed games and the new RPG entries (Origins and onwards) are all large scale open-world games with typical Action RPG elements (leveling, gear, upgrading gear, level-gating, skill trees etc.).

In that regard, Shadows, like the other RPG-entries, differs from the older game because the focus of the game is not only on assassinations, but also on character building and progress. It is still possible to go through most of the game by doing assassinations and stealth, but you can also brawl if you wish for some nice Action RPG style fighting.

All in all, I like the newer RPG games much more than the old ones because they are huge, allow me to play however I want to play and I like RPGs in general.

And, yeah, I'm also waiting for Yotei to come to PC, but it's announced only for Q2 2026 so it's going to be a wait still.

    Assassin's Creed Shadows

I've finally bit the bullet and got Assassin's Creed Shadows. I was really off-put by all the negativity around the game. It's interesting how there have been two polar opposite stories told about how the game is extremely woke because of Yasuke (the black samurai in the game) and on the other hand Ubisoft making stuff up to defend their position instead of outright saying "Hey people, we have always taken liberties with the Assassin's Creed property and we just think Yasuke is a cool character".

So, now that I finally got it, I have to say: I like it. I was itching to play a new RPG-ish Assassin's Creed and Shadows is delivering. The modern day story is heavily toned down (at least in the first 10-20 hours how much I've played until now). Yasuke is a cool dude who is just playing the cards that have been dealt to him. For how much outrage there was, it's interesting how much it takes to even unlock him as a playable character. I was looking forward to playing with him, but he's really not my cup of tea. He's basically a tank knocking people around. Physically, it makes absolute sense, but man, I'm not a fan of playing an AC game without being able to parkour around so I'm just playing as Naoe (the female ninja character) and having a blast.

The feudal Japan setting is beautiful (as opposed to Origins where I just couldn't enjoy the drab sand everywhere) and conquering castles and camps is fun. Turns out, it's a good game.

    SP Football Life 26

And now for something completely different: football! Of the soccer-y kind and not of the American kind. :)

I've always loved playing FIFA. Not in the highly competitive or whatever sense, but just to have fun, relax and play a match or two. The newer games have completely veered off into the microtransaction hellhole and haven't really given me anything fun to do at all. I guess that I'm not the only one who felt that way since the modding community around legacy football games is huge. And, to my knowledge, the biggest project there is is SP Football Life 26 which is based on Pro Evolution Soccer 2021.

Well, SP Football Life 26 is exactly what I was looking for. It's updated with the newest rosters, has heavily modified tweaks to the gameplay, has got a lot of UI / banners / art / whatever you can think of updates. There are face packs available to get the likeness of the players and whatnot. It's also wonderful to see how the game isn't all arcade-y. What I mean is: when I play FIFA (or EA FC as it is now known after the dispute between EA and FIFA), it feels like the ball is sticking to the players. I can pass a ball forward (like it got unstuck from a player in the field) and the player in front recieves it (it now sticks to him) and just continues running. The momentum of the ball, the turnaround of the player, the friction with the grass... it's all just missing. Well, Football Life (actually PES which is underneath) has all of that in spades. The same with shooting at the goal. In FIFA it always seems like the ball is prescripted to either go in or not. In Football Life I already had quite a few of "accidental" goals because the ball bounced off of 1 or 2 players and changed trajectory completely which threw the goalie off. Marvelous!

To keep it short: if you are itching for a good football experience, SP Football Life 26 is definitely it.

The biggest upside for me is having something like a sounding board and personal assistant for various topics. My main AI tool is Gemini and, with its huge context window, I have long running pinned chats about various topics where all the context is already present and I can just talk away about the topic without having to explain everything with each new chat.

How I approach it is like this: first, I'll open a new chat and explain the concept - that I want to start a long running chat which should have a plethora of information as background data, provide a brain dump on the topic as best as I can and that I want a multi round interview to clear up everything and to fill in any blanks I forgot about the topic. Also, I say that all of this input should serve as data to creata a perfect first prompt for a new chat which will then be the long running one. Then, the AI interviews me for several rounds and that is also where I remember a lot of additional things about the topic on hand. After all of this, I get a nice prompt which contains the explanation for the concept and all the starting data to kickstart the chat.

The one long running chat which has been the most useful was for a health scare I had recently and I used AI to help me understand much better what the doctors are telling me and prepare myself for every appointment so that I have a list of questions I need to clear up.

Some other long running chats have been about my different tech setups like solving issues with my Linux setup (it's really nice not having to to explain each time what my hardware is, how the system is set up, etc.) or my Raspberry which is a server for many different little scripts I write or getting the perfect 3D printing settings and learning about why these settings are good for individual things I want to print.

No, thank you. Yeah, the fan edit has both audio versions, but I'll rather watch the original on my Blu-Ray at home to enjoy it fully. :)

I've been on a Fan Edit kick lately and last week I was raving about the Fan Edit of The Hobbit. I also mentioned that I want to watch The Matrix Revolutions Decoded so I did. And I am really glad I did.

I find the original trilogy just fine. The first movie is an absolute masterpiece, but found the other two to lose their footing a bit and I have a bit of problems following the story (even though I love movies with convoluted stories meant for rewatches like Memento or Inception).

This Fan Edit streamlines the plot masterfully and will definitely be my go-to for rewatches. Zion is toned down, Revolutions in general is almost not present and it ends on a somewhat more positive note. I don't want to spoil anything for people wanting to watch it so I'll leave it at a really strong recommendation.

The next watching project are the Fan Edits of Star Wars by HAL 9000. They seem to be considered the gold standard of Star Wars Fan Edits and I'm really interested in what the community came up with, especially with the prequel trilogy.

I've been looking at Fan Made Edits lately after watching M4's The Hobbit Book Edit.

I know that most people don't like The Hobbit trilogy, but I actually like it since it's a much lighter movie and perfect to leave it running as a bit of background noise. And then I stumbled on the Book Edit of the trilogy and... it's just so good.

The whole premise of the fan edit is to try and stick to the part of the trilogy which also the book is mostly about: Bilbo. This cuts the trilogy to one 4-hour movie which is a joy to follow. I won't spoil what parts have been edited out or rearranged, I'll just say that it's a very enjoyable watch with most of the unneeded silliness removed, the plot being tightened up considerably and the fan edit being done really professionally with custom VFX. I also love how the core message of the movie about home, friendship and connection has a chance to shine through much more brightly.

The next fan edit I want to watch is The Matrix Revolutions Decoded which is a one-movie reimagining of the rest of the story of Matrix after the first movie without having to go through 2 movies (which are arguably too long / bloated), a video game and some comics.
