I get that, I'm just making a point that personal life choices made at the individual level by those who are able and willing to isn't viable as a broad solution. It's one of those things like a general strike. It'd be nice, but it's just not realistic. The only solution that will really work requires putting in the effort to do coordinated political action and organizing.

Lower CoL also comes with lower local wages though. You're not going to be able to move to the middle of Kansas and ask for a Bay Area salary. This strategy is only viable for people with a high paying remote job, or people who have worked a while and saved up enough to retire early.

A lot of it (most of it?) exists purely due to no strings attached cash injections from billionaires. By no strings attached I mean they don't expect a direct monetary return. Of course they expect them to create favorable content to their ideology, but that's just assumed from the start, not enshrined in any sort of legal contract.

The US does censor movies though. For example, they've censored a line in Tomorrow Never Dies about America's failure in Vietnam, and a line about the high rate of military suicides in Iron-Man. The fact that you don't really hear about these while you hear all about Chinese censorship is itself another part of the propaganda machine.

Minorities will get harassed online by racists who are angry they exist and are allowed to have and express opinions.

It's not necessarily that movies are made about the US doing a good job in Vietnam, but the Pentagon has censored movies (Not necessarily war movies, James Bond for example is cited) that said things they didn't like about Vietnam, or other things that made the military look bad. If China demanded a movie censor a reference to the Tianaman Square massacre, it would be outrageous, but if the Pentagon censors a reference to the My Lai massacre somehow that's better?

It's neat, but to me it seems a bit of an overkill solution. I can solve the same problem by dynamically building a sprite from smaller "subsprite" chunks that are all synched together as a part of the same animation. Like I could take a walk cycle animation, and break it into 6 separate pieces for the two legs, two arms, torso, and head, each with a position offset relative to the larger animation. So then if I dynamically want them to have a different hat, I would just point it to a different head subsprite with the hat I want. This approach requires more memory than his solution, but I really don't see memory being limited when we're talking this kind of pixel art game.

You're missing the point. Everyone has some unfalsifiable being(s) which they have no issues stating does not exist. For some people it might be mermaids, for some people it might be Zeus, for some people it could even be Scooby Doo. The form it takes is irrelevant. The point is, saying "we can't know for sure" rings hollow because it's always a special carve out only for the thing they believe in, and nothing else.

Not to mention, nobody would ever say "well, there's no way to know for sure" if they were asked if, say, leprechauns or mermaids were real. It's technically true, but almost everybody would be completely comfortable asserting that leprechauns and mermaids don't exist. But even though the same thing applies to god, people will carve out a special exception.

I agree with your point about community size, but I don't think it's anonymity as much as it's the illusion of safety. On facebook for example, people will use their real names and pictures, but will still post the most hateful vile stuff to each other. It's because the immediate threat of being punched in the face isn't there. It works the same way as road rage. You're not anonymous in your vehicle, people can see you, and potentially even identify you by your license plate number. But people will feel comfortable yelling incredibly vicious stuff at each other on the road, because when you're driving inside your car, you have the feeling that you can't be touched (you can, of course, but it doesn't FEEL like you can).

Personally I'm hoping for 5 days a week at 6 hours each, because I really want the extra hour of sleep in the morning each day, and the extra hour in the evening to prepare a nice dinner.
