Don't eat a lot before going, make it a planned stop.
Avoid carbs as they fill you up fast.
Go for the meats as they are more expensive.
Avoid sushi unless it just got plated or there is a chef designated there to make it fresh.
Take what you will eat so you don't leave a bunch of uneaten waste. -

My wife used to get hangry to the extreme where our friends wouldn't like to hang around her when she was hungry. What worked for her is intermittent fasting, Only eating within a 10 hour window. You would be amazed on how many calories you can cut out when you only have 2 meals a day.
But I digress, if you eat when you are bored, then pick up a hobby, play video games, do something, just make sure you aren't mindlessly eating. When I am bored I still occasionally open the fridge to look around, but I realize that I think of eating as an activity and it's not. Also if you eat while stressed, try swapping out what you eat with better options like broccoli, salad, or carrots. Ultimately small changes over time stick longer than a big change suddenly.
I know this is unsolicited advice, but I have been in a similar situation and it sucks to be trapped in a never ending cycle. I was over 300 pounds and now I am almost a third of the way to my goal. I hope this helps someone if it doesn't help you.

It is easier trying to be under my calorie goal when I only have 2 meals a day vs 3. Usually my lunch is small/low calorie, so for dinner I can enjoy myself. It has also helped me with better dealing with hunger. Ultimately, I think it was a good decision as it helped me make a gradual change to my life and I am slowly getting healthier.
