Been going through a TON of those avocado six packs from Costco. Mostly just cutting them up and seasoning with lime, lawrys, celery salt, and tajin. But also occasionally making some guac.

I can appreciate tattoos as being nice art in the sense that the artist does a good job. But I don't much see the point in putting that art on my body. The ink fades, skin sags, and it becomes a shadow of what it once was. Not to mention that (good) tattoos are expensive as hell. I'm not exactly the "my body is a temple" type, but I just don't see the point. Anywhere I can put one that isn't going to prohibit me from getting hired in my field is only really going to be seen by someone if we're getting naked together so it would mostly be there just to be there. And of course if you do end up regretting it its costly and painful to remove. I know this isn't inherently correct, but part of me just associates tattoos with impulsive people (doesn't help that certain ex's and friends help confirm that bias).

And for what its worth even the conventional B-36 is an interesting bird. One of few to mix piston props and jets. They took a TON of maintenance to keep flying and are HUGE. They have a couple on display at the Pima museum and in Dayton too if memory serves. Worth checking out.

Shouldn't you at this point take a step back and wonder why you want to keep using reddit as a platform?

Because you can't conflate Reddit the company with reddit the website. Reddit the company is absolute shit no question about it. Reddit the site is not (at least not completely). Sure large chunks of default subs may be cancer at this point, there are still PLENTY of smaller niche communities that are worth visiting and in many ways carry unique resources.

I've never used anything else for my home theater software needs so I don't think I can really compare it properly.

Idk if you could call it overkill, but plex does have a free version. It just comes without some feeatures. And if you decide you want those features (off the top of my head I think they are hardware transcoding, open subtitle downloading, and the ability to watch movie trailers, among others) you can just buy the pass when it goes on sale. Which is pretty often.

Education and safe environment affect their children for much longer than 4 years. Children are in school until they are at least 18. They need a safe environment until they die. The length of time in which those are a priority for parents is MUCH longer than the issue of parental leave.

Aside from Rocket League, which I play all the time the only games I've played recently that I've tried and been stuck on in a good way for a minute were Cyberpunk, Beat Saber, and HL Alyx.

Cyberpunk has a fantastic (albeit short) main story line and some pretty unique game play. It takes a heck of of PC to run it (don't even try on last gen consoles lol), but if you can it's worth it. I think it's on sale on steam right now?

Beat Saber and Alyx were the two games I got a VR headset for. Obviously a VR headset is a bit of an investment. But holy crap, it lead to what was probably the first real "wow" moments I've had gaming in ages. Booting into a VR game for rh first time is kinda surreal. Your brain does this thing where you know you're in VR, but you don't know. Like it took me some time to stop putting my hands on objects that weren't there to get my balance. As far as the games themselves:

Beatsaber: if you liked guitar hero you'll LOVE this. The built in maps get old fast, but the custom content and mods (seriously go look up some noodles maps on YouTube) from the community give endless hours of entertainment.

Alyx: playing another half life game for the first time was fucking cool man. Let alone one in VR. It used VR in really neat and immersive ways, but not necessarily in ones that I'd call ways that were just a novelty. It was a good game on its own merit and not just a good VR game. My only real complaint is that it was very much linear and lacks some replayability.

I'm far from an economist but here's my take. There are only three-ish things that could come next the way I see it:

    1. Status quo keeps maintaining more or less. This one makes the most sense to me. Since the 1%ers always need labor to squeeze capital from. They don't really want to rock the boat.

    2. Something replaces capitalism. Workers revolt and unite and we see lots of socialist movements across the world. Personally I doubt we see this for a number of reasons.

    3. Societal collapse. Think large scale environmental disasters and/or economic collapse.

Eventually (3) will happen in the form of some kind of global warming environmental disasters. But until then (1) is all that will happen. I, personally, don't buy into any large scale economic collapses happening that we won't recover from or society suddenly revolting and uniting as the workers of the world.

By then it's too late. You need a bloc of people before they start having kids. Once you have that kid the fight for parental leave becomes moot because even if you win by the time you get it the kid is grown enough it's not an issue.

As for why we don't have it in the US you can boil it down to one simple issue: corporate greed. Companies cut pay and benefits as much as they can. The vast majority of Americans are trying and failing to secure pay raises that match inflation and (decent) health insurance. Paid parental leave is such a lower priority it's laughable.

Its also one of my favorites. Its one that I go back and rewatch every now and again since everything about it just hits all those right notes. You're right that the character development is fantastic. In fact I remember reading somewhere that its cyclical. The 4 major characters all take turns as the villan, hero, being down and out, and on the rise during each of seasons. For example in S1 Joe is the villan, Donna is down and out, Cameron is on the rise, and Gordon is the hero. Then it cycles each of the next 3 seasons which is part of what kept it so fresh.

Its mildly entertaining (or at least was for a bit), but it doesn't take much to realize that that protest isn't actually a protest. Changing your sub to a John Oliver sub is still driving clicks and giving reddit the ad revenue they desperately want. In fact if anything I'd hazard a guess that the John Oliver iteration of /r/pics is driving a bit more traffic than the traditional /r/pics. Its shocking how sitewide the mods of reddit have continually kept fumbling the bag with this protest. That is assuming it was ever actually about anything more than virtue signaling in the first place.
