As pointed out in nearly every comment, there is no debate about what is happening. The only reason /anyone/ believes there is still a debate is an orchestrated effort by the fossil fuel industries and other monied interests to sew doubt.
Up until relatively recently I truly did hold out hope that humanity would band together to mitigate the worst of climate collapse. That hope went out the window round abouts April 2020.
I hate being a doomer. But that's where I'm at.

It is the internet, smartphones, and streaming.
In a few short years, nearly everyone was online all the time, and on top of that, everyone had access to all the music ever. It completely killed the monoculture that existed in the previous decades that were easily identified by their sounds. There was no longer a bottleneck like a radio station that decided what everyone heard, which in turn influenced the sound of new music. Now that everyone has access to everything, it seems that it has sort of plateaued to me as far as evolution of popular music.
On the other hand, the fact that there are a million little subcultures that can exist in their own bubbles, also means there are an equal number of self contained micro genres.
To me, the biggest thing I've noticed that I thought was legitimately new in the past decade or so is the super adhd hyperpop thing like 100 gecs. And even that is largely a reinterpretation of existing styles more than it is the natural evolution of a specific type of sound.

Radio in Maryland has a long and crazy history and a lot of the djs and personalities that had huge followings on alternative and freeform terrestrial stations that died after many decades ended up at WTMD. Unfortunately, the most famous of those, The Weasel retired about a year ago. I think they still have Weasel's Wild Weekend playlists available though, and that guy has to be in the top 20 most knowledgeable music historians in the world.

His scenes as the therapist in Grosse Point Blank hit me perfectly as a teenager. I remember crying with laughter. And years later he had one of my favorite most memorable single line readings in Argo -- Argo fuck yourself -- very few actors could have nailed that the way he did without it being over the top cheesy.
Rest easy, Alan. You'll be missed.

Comment on Is there any book that you keep trying but can not get through? in ~books

It checks nearly every box for me, but for whatever reason I can't get into it. I've tried probably 5 times over the last 20 years and every time it is the same thing. Maybe I'll give the audiobook a try.

I've found that if you treat them similar to how you would treat cast iron -- season it, don't put it through the dishwasher, etc -- it rivals cast iron as far as nonstick ability goes. I do have one nonstick pan that I will use sparingly or in very specific circumstances, but generally have found that stainless is what I prefer using above Teflon or cast iron.

I love making things out of broken things. Mosaic, kintsugi, etc. I like the idea of taking something broken and making it into something beautiful.

It is a beautiful love letter to Outrun and that era of games, challenging without being overly frustrating, and there are no microtransactions or anything to progress. You buy the game once, and you have the whole thing (I think it may even be available on Play Pass now). It is one of the first games I ever bought on Android, and is still within my top 3.

When I finally did break down and listen to it, I burned through approximately 1.5 books a week until I was done. It is just so much fun. I've tried a few of the other LitRPG series, but none of them have grabbed me the same way.

(which was amazing and hilarious and way better than it had any right to be).

Science Vs can be really great when it hits.
If you have kids, I think Dear Old Dads is pretty great. It is Thomas, formerly of OpenArgs before that whole debacle, and two guys from Scathing Atheist / Citation Needed. It is really funny and they offer a much different flavor of parenting talk than most.
Dude Cinema is two Australian women comedians talking about movies dudes made them watch. I found it randomly through The Dollop, it is great.
I marginally keep up with stand up. The two big avenues I see currently are podcasts, and TikTok. The podcast thing obviously has been going on for some time. A solid percentage of comics each have their own podcast, and if nothing else, you are nearly guaranteed that xyz comic has been on a podcast. Podcasts have evolved to where there seems to be a bunch of interlocking podcast universes, where the same set of comics all guest on podcasts from each other. So the good news here is that if you find a comic you like, that can usually lead you down a rabbit hole for discovering similar comics by way of who guests on what.
TikTok seems to be the main promo tool currently for a lot of comics. There are a decent number now whose careers have entirely been made on TikTok. That holds the place now that Netflix did maybe 5 years ago.
Vulture does a podcast called "Good One" that is about dissecting a certain bit or joke with the comic who wrote it. At least twice a year, they also do their Best Specials of the Year episodes, which has introduced me to a fair number of really good comics. I would highly suggest checking out those episodes to see if anything strikes your fancy.
What are some comics that you have really enjoyed in the past?
