Bobiverse
Any fans of this series over here? I was planning a series reread before book 5 comes out. It was going to be hosted on the bobiverse subreddit, but... well, ya know.
If enough people want to do one here I'd be happy to host it, probably starting in about 4 weeks and doing one book every 2 weeks.
Oh snap there's a new one coming out? Wait, one came out in 2020? I thought the end of 3 sounded potentially final and there wasn't any for a while after that so I had stopped looking! Thank you for bringing this to my attention!
Yes according to the author's website book 5 just got sent to the editor. Completely guessing here, but i think it's reasonable it's with us before the end of the year.
Excellent username :)
Fantastic! Looking forward to seeing where it goes next. The Von Neumann Probe concept is great.
I've always thought a strategy/RTS game based on the concept would be a lot of fun. Finding the maximal efficient use of resources to either further your objective or build more probes would be a lot of fun.
Yes indeed. One of my favourite book series. Be aware, book four is a rather sharp drift away from the tone of the first three. I personally really enjoyed it, but it's definitely a controversial entry amongst series fans.
I recently grabbed We Are Legion on a whim and I'm absolutely loving it. I'd be very interested since I'm new to this universe .
You're in for a treat! Check out the audiobooks if you haven't, Ray Porter does a great job of narrating them.
I really enjoyed Book 1-3. Felt really fresh, wacky and in some instances... really sad.
Book 4? I gave up about half-way through. It felt like it went in a different direction to what I'd have liked.
Four is quite different admittedly. It's basically a giant heist book and the changing dynamic in the verse brings in a lot of interpersonal drama. Still loved it though.
From book 1 when the personality drift was first hinted at I wanted for a civil war of himself, it took four books to get there but I'm excited for it.
I see it being a big part of book 5. Starfleet are a PITA!
Honestly, I'm glad others did! It just didn't gel with me as well as the first three.
Such is life with books!
Same. Book 4 felt a little… underwhelming and pedestrian? Having said that I like his work (audioreading Earthside rn) so if it drops I’ll probably take a listen.
The first 3 felt like a beautiful homage to so many different scifi universes, whilst also being self-aware enough to have its own story. The different factions ended up hilarious.
4? Just ... "and then they went here, they did this"
Thanks for reminding me to look this series up! This is perfect for the next book in my library's summer reading program. My local library doesn't have it physically or as an ebook so I'll have to request by ILL, but that hasn't been a big issue so far.
You're in for a treat. If you can grab the audiobook I'd recommend it too, it's really well performed.
Have you read/listened to the Dresden Files series? If yes, how does it compare to James Marsters' masterful work for those?
I've read a couple of Dresden files but not listened so I can't comment. You can check out samples on audible, the narrator, Ray Porter, really injects himself into the story.
Having listened to both narrators extensively, it say they are very on par, with Masters being maybe a hair above Porter, but that may just be because I've spend more time with Harry than with Bob.
That's a ringing endorsement if I've ever heard one!
Love this series, am looking forward to the next one coming out.
Will probably try to find a collectors set once Taylor is done with it since I have mostly just listened to it on Audible or read it on Kindle.
All Audible for me. I'm waiting for a physical collector's edition too whenever the series ends.
I could probably contribute some to a thread when they are posted. I am just finishing up Heavens River now, on my second relisten. Those books are great)
I'm down for it. I was planning a reread myself!
I've read the series (up to this point) at least twice and listened to it on audible several times. Awesome books with the perfect narrator for the audio book.
I love the Bobiverse books. The audiobooks are also top tier. Guppie is amazing, as are most of the Bobs. Trying not to give away any real spoilers.
I couldn't get into them, but people clearly love them. Maybe I should give it another chance. I consistently saw it recommended on r/audiobooks as the answer to "What should I listen to after devouring Dungeon Crawler Carl?" (which was amazing and hilarious and way better than it had any right to be).
Yeah I listened to the first Dungeon Keeper Carl and quite liked it. God damn it snowball!
I avoided it for a long time because it generally was way outside my wheelhouse. When I finally did break down and listen to it, I burned through approximately 1.5 books a week until I was done. It is just so much fun. I've tried a few of the other LitRPG series, but none of them have grabbed me the same way.
I read the 4 of them last summer. The trilogy had been recommended to me for a while. Love the series, didn't know a new one was coming out. Trying to get the wife to read them rn.
My wife just started reading them because I won't shut up about them. She's not as into sci-fi as me, but she's digging it so far.
I just read the first book since it was picked this month for a book club at work. I really couldn't get into it. I really loved the harder sci-fi aspects but all of the pop culture references and humor had me rolling my eyes so much I kept losing my place on the page.
I'd be down for it, I discovered the books last year after listening to Project Hail Mary and really enjoyed them, I would definitely enjoy re-listening to them.
Especially since I've just started playing
Spoilers Book 4
TimberbornProject Hail Mary is ♫ good good good ♫! I only wished they did a mini series instead of a movie as I'd like to spend as much time as possible in that universe.
I read it first then got the audiobook. Both were fantastic but the audio element of that character really elevated the story.
I've never heard of this series before, but the premise sounds awesome.
It's in my queue, although reading all of these comments about how good it is, I might start it sooner rather than later.
I read paper copies of the first 3. Good books but by the 3rd one I got a little tired of the series and have moved on. Since then I've been doing more audiobooks and have considered going back to this one since there are new titles. If the narrator is good I'll eventually give it a go.
It's Ray Porter who's one of my favourite audio book narrators. I usually like to listen to books I've already read so I can lose concentration and not stress too much about what I missed so I read and listened to these. Ray does a great job at bringing it to life. The different voices for the different Bob's are great.
I was just trying to figure out what my next audiobook should be. Judging by the comments here, I'll give this series a shot.
