My thinking on that is if 200MB of ram or less than 1% of CPU is a resource concern, the problem is bigger than just having steam running, and if you do any gaming on more than 1 device I personally love the cloud sync and auto-updates happening without me needing to spend any time on it directly.

funkyb Maybe some, but I'd need some more fact-based information to be willing to believe it rises to the level of "a lot" when compared with the total universe of mods. However, I do believe that this...A lot of moderators do it for the power trip (some do it for the community). There is a line up of people that would not mind gaining that power.
Maybe some, but I'd need some more fact-based information to be willing to believe it rises to the level of "a lot" when compared with the total universe of mods. However, I do believe that this is a common perception held by people who are not themselves handling moderation of comparable sized subs.
My largest one is around 100k users; not huge, but not tiny, and that's a common belief in our community (so much so that a spin-off community was formed explicitly to complain about the mods). And while I understand if others won't take our word for it, I will say with absolute certainty that none of the people on the mod team are there to feed any kind of power trip.

Beyond that, it's just a function of what you're comfortable with but again, that time is special and has value.

I was fortunate, as a former leader of mine recruited me into the new gig so I knew someone who I trust was there, but it was a bit scary to make that jump and I did give up a shitload of tenure to do it. The new gig is still work and has it's own issues, but it's nowhere near as toxic as the place I left had become, and for the first time in over 5 years I'm working close to 40h per week instead of 60-70h+.

Regardless of what that means to you, or others, I think overall it's lost the "wild west" feel and become overly commercialized.

Since then I've been doing more audiobooks and have considered going back to this one since there are new titles. If the narrator is good I'll eventually give it a go.
