Just finished It Can't Happen Here, by Sinclair Lewis. Halfway through East of Eden, by John Steinbeck.

It Can't Happen Here was really good. Very relevant. The first 5 pages felt like a summary of the last few years of American politics.

East of Eden continues to surprise me with how good it is. The writing style is so good. It's just so fucking good. I'm really enjoying it.

On my reading list for what's next, possibly in this order:

    • The Conquest of Bread, by Peter Kropotkin

    • The Conspiracy Against The Human Race, by Thomas Ligotti

    • Hope Never Dies, by Andrew Shaffer (it sounds like a Troll 2 situation)

    • Call Me By Your Name, by André Aciman

I need to meditate more often. When I was doing it every day, I felt myself actually regressing a little bit and becoming more impatient. But I was indeed less stressed, and better equipped to handle the impatience.

Exercise is also awesome. I don't do it because I make excuses, but when I was in college, exercise kept me sane. I do therapy now and it is a big help. Imagine if I did therapy and exercise...

Music and medicine is a solid twofer for a great, relaxing time. On Sunday I ended up smoking and dancing by myself in the garage and you know what? It was the most relaxing thing I have done in a long time.

I don't have much to add but every single thing you named is great. Anyone who is looking for a stress reliever can start here. If you don't know where to start, pick a random number between 1 and 8 (maybe skip the medical part if you are adverse to that) and try that number on OPs list.

It was never, ever about illegal immigration. That was the brand, the label, and the slogan, but that was never where they would stop. The administration and the Republican-led Congress have allowed and supported and encouraged this. They also moved money from FEMA. And they are arresting the legal (EDIT: The article I reference says they are arresting undocumented people; my counterargument is when has any story of any executive action in this administration not gotten worse as more details came out?) sponsors of these children. They are also declaring birth certificates as fraudulent and jailing citizens who have applied for a passport.

It was never about illegal immigration. This is about skin color. And we're the frogs.

Selfishly speaking, I wish we had more people like you. That's an entire realm that I would like to explore but I am so uncomfortable and nervous about it. Most of it is my own mental state and how I perceive it to be a little on the fragile side lately. But still, we need this openness!

I completely understand this. I love to write but I am far and away my largest critic. I don't mind telling people that I like to write. Sometimes I'll be writing on my phone in the middle of the bar because I can't let an idea go. Or I'll be watching a movie with my girlfriend, get an idea, and run upstairs to jot it down. But I do not like sharing it. I've shared my personal writings with two people, and even then only after a few weeks to think over what I wrote.

But I like what earlgreytea said! Release it anonymously. I plan to start a blog to release my short story (if I ever finish it) and then maybe post on Facebook for friends and family to see.

That's what I want, actually. A former rental car. They have miles but they're usually well maintained anyway.

I told him about the stuff with the NRA and sent him articles and the DOJ files. He eventually said we have to be careful from false flag attacks from statists and globalists. I let it go but I had forgotten that globalist = Jew. Jesus, that's terrifying.

My to do list is get the check engine light on my car looked at. I'm saving up for a down payment for a new-to-me car (mine has 131,000+ miles and is 10 years old) so I've expected this. Hopefully it's nothing crazy since my inspection is also due.

I also want to knock out a chunk of the Ken Burns Vietnam doc. The doc is 18 hours long and there's always reading (East of Eden and It Can't Happen Here), video games (Fortnite) or movies to enjoy, so I have a hard time watching a full episode from the series.
