For anyone interested in cooking Indian, I could not recommend this cookbook more: https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Krishnas-Cuisine-Vegetarian-Cooking/dp/0525245642 It is a straight forward, comprehensive, can't go wrong resource. It is aryuvedic, which means that it us vegetarian, but also doesn't use onions or garlic. The lack of onions and garlic was completely foreign to me at first, being Midwestern German-American, but learning the vocabulary of Indian spices without those was mind blowing

I dabbled with restoration a few years ago, as I had painful erections from an overly tight circumcision. I was able to grow enough skin take the pressure off, but not go much further. It takes incredible dedication. I do feel violated, and I of course did not circumcise my three sons.

I've got ingredients in queue for macc ipa by the Ray Found of brulosophy. I've brewed it once before and it was superb. I've brewed and fermented about everything under the sun over the years from elderberry port to turnip wine. I mostly stick to Ipas these days because I'm hooked on the hops.

What I read once about harvesting wild yeast, maybe by Sandor Katz, was, to paraphrase, "It's like inviting a homeless guy to live on your couch. He might be tons of fun and have great stories, but he might never get off the couch and stink up the place." I'm an avid wild fermenter, though. I enjoy the gamble.

Try "Easyway to stop smoking" by Allen Carr. I was an absolutely addicted smoker for 20 years. Never made an honest attempt at quitting even though I knew I wanted to. I read this book in a few hours, the whole time thinking that it was just repetitive and cheesy brainwashing. Well it may have been, but it worked and I quit fairly easily and happily. He simply and systematically takes away every excuse, of which I had them all. /r/stopsmoking also helped quite a bit. I haven't smoked in 3.5 years.

Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front
    by Wendell Berry

Love the quick profit, the annual raise,
    vacation with pay. Want more
    of everything ready-made. Be afraid
to know your neighbors and to die.
And you will have a window in your head.
Not even your future will be a mystery
any more. Your mind will be punched in a card
and shut away in a little drawer.
When they want you to buy something
they will call you. When they want you
to die for profit they will let you know.
So, friends, every day do something
that won’t compute. Love the Lord.
Love the world. Work for nothing.
Take all that you have and be poor.
Love someone who does not deserve it.
    Denounce the government and embrace
the flag. Hope to live in that free
    republic for which it stands.
Give your approval to all you cannot
understand. Praise ignorance, for what man
has not encountered he has not destroyed.
Ask the questions that have no answers.
Invest in the millennium. Plant sequoias.
Say that your main crop is the forest
    that you did not plant,
that you will not live to harvest.
Say that the leaves are harvested
when they have rotted into the mold.
Call that profit. Prophesy such returns.
Put your faith in the two inches of humus
that will build under the trees
    every thousand years.
Listen to carrion — put your ear
close, and hear the faint chattering
of the songs that are to come.
Expect the end of the world. Laugh.
    Laughter is immeasurable. Be joyful
though you have considered all the facts.
So long as women do not go cheap
for power, please women more than men.
    Ask yourself: Will this satisfy
a woman satisfied to bear a child?
    Will this disturb the sleep
of a woman near to giving birth?
Go with your love to the fields.
Lie easy in the shade. Rest your head
    in her lap. Swear allegiance
to what is nighest your thoughts.
As soon as the generals and the politicos
can predict the motions of your mind,
lose it. Leave it as a sign
to mark the false trail, the way
you didn’t go. Be like the fox
who makes more tracks than necessary,
    some in the wrong direction.
    Practice resurrection.

When we had our first cow butchered, the first thing we made was oxtail soup. It was remarkably rich and amazing. I'm also a big fan of garlic soup with a poached egg.

Lawns are one of my major pet peeves. The article states that some communities mandate lawn care. My entire county does, and it is a predominately rural midwest county wherein the only population density is in the county seat.

Something the article doesn't really touch on is the disproportionate amount of carbon emissions and particulate pollution that is generated by mowing, trimming, etc. Small engines are particularly inefficient. heavy reading from EPA on pollution from lawn and garden engines

He used to have quite a few videos online, with a lot of this looping technique and and other effects. Now he only has a small presence online, unfortunately. I stumbled on the hurdy gurdy back when this video was fresh, 2010, this song was always my favorite.

I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy in a day, so I'll consider it short. You'd be hard pressed to find a more powerful story anywhere, let alone in a book where the characters don't even have names.
