Let's Game It Out - Completely chaotic gameplay, breaking games or bringing them to their limit in very funny ways

The Grim Kleaper(and Anti-Kleaper) - comedic commentary gaming/challenge content mostly revolving around Total War Warhammer 3 and Rimworld, though you don't need to have played to enjoy.

Reggie(and Reginald II) - Same friend group as Kleaper and very similar content, but different and enjoyable.

Max0r - funny commentary content/"reviews" with absolutely outstanding editing and very funny jokes/dubs. Went viral a while ago for his MGR Revengeance summary, of which you may see references to every so often

You mentioned Avorion, which leads me to make the assumption you at least have an interest in the space RPG/Adventure genre. You may very much enjoy Starsector and X4: Foundations. Both are space games with dynamic worlds.

Starsector is basically top-down space Mount and Blade. You assemble a fleet of ships, explore the sector, trade, fight, etc. It has a dynamic world in the same sense as Avorion, but a bit more fleshed out. There is trading, goods supply/demand, trade fleets that can be interacted with that actually carry shipments which, when killed, will cause a shortage of that supply on their destination. You can legitimately kill all the trade shipments coming to a planet and destabilize it out so hard it becomes uncolonized. Also you can found a player-created empire which also can receive trade fleets(Which might be killed by enemies or pirates). Exploration is fun with going out into the uninhabited portions of the sector and finding technology, ships, ship blueprints, equipment, etc. Building a fleet and equipping it is very fun, ships are immutable in their slot setup(weapon hardpoints), but they use a points system for weapons, hull mods(equipment that is applied to the ship itself, costs points and gives bonuses), and flux economy(firing weapons and doing some actions produces flux and you can add vents/max flux capacity to adjust the flux eco of the ship). The game is fantastic and is actively developed. The update cadence is roughly one a year which,if your like me, gives you time to mess about with mods during each update cycle without worrying as often about an update coming out and making you choose between your mods and the new update features. I would be remis if i didnt mention the most popular mod in the game's very active modding community, a mod named Nexerelin that adds a well-done 4X element to the game, making factions and you able to participate in espionage, conquering, light diplomacy, and more. The game isnt on steam, the dev is holding off on steam until theyre satisfied with the product, and yes the buying site looks like something from the early 2000s, but its legit and the game is only 15$ iirc.

X4 is closer to avorion, in that it is a 3rd person space adventure. It uses premade ships with equippable hardpoints like starsector does, though a bit less dynamic in loadout terms, since focus is less on individual ships and more on building yourself an empire over time, founding stations, producing ships and goods, etc. It has a lot more RTS/empire management ideals in it, with being able to order ships around, set them on automated orders, set them to patrol or defend, etc. There is also a supply and demand system here, with factions actually being unable to produce ships if they dont have the materials, including you being unable to buy ships from shipyards that are lot on supplies. Ive had many times where i had to go fetch and deliver supplies so i can buy a ship i wanted. Traders are also entities in the game that can be raided, lost, or protected and their goods are actually numbered in the stations. There is a path to monopolizing goods to make big bank in this game as well, since traders will buy from your stations just like from other ones. The game is in active development and there is an active modding scene via steam workshop.

Hopefully these two recommendations help you out! Ive put several hundred hours into X4 and well over 1k hours into starsector given that i adore Space adventure games, and these two seem to fit your bill for dynamic worlds, so I am quite glad to share these because they really deserve more players!

No clue what the issue was, but i worked around it by adding a custom bounciness to the spinner via script, so now it applies an impulse force directly away from the contact point on contact and sustained contact, making a pleasantly realistic bounce and marble reactions. a bit floaty/bouncy but very much adjustable via values rather than the systemic issue i was running into previously.

I've been working in unity today and so far ive got the basic functionality behind a generic "marbles roll to a place" project, including the goal that has functionality when a marble touches it. I've been struggling with making a spinning object that rotates around a pivot point and making the marbles react similarly to how i see them react in algodoo videos. Progress is great thus far though, maybe ill finally crack open a tutorial to see if that covers spinning obstacles.

Honestly I hadnt considered using a game engine. I figured a more purpose-built physics engine would have richer features due to a narrower scope of focusing on physics simulation rather than having to include everything involved in making a game, but you make a very well put together argument here for using unity(or even a game engine in general). Especially given i have previous experience in unity. Thanks!

I just got into watching physics simulation videos on youtube, stuff like marble races, marble battles, Multiply Or Release, and various other simulation content. Absolutely enthralling stuff for someone like me who enjoys simply watching an environment do its thing.

I wanted to get into making my own sims/scenarios and was wondering if you all on tildes had some recommendations. I've been trying algodoo and it seems very nice but I've heard its mostly abandonware and theres some features I find lacking. So I wanted to look into options for my little tinkering. I understand that there may not be a perfect one but I'd love to have some options to try and tinker in, and my research has led me to lots of them that seem at first look to be purely for academic purposes.

To crystallize my desires into a definite paragraph:
I'm looking for physics sim software recommendations to make my own marble races and other simulated 'games'. I don't mind having to learn it from scratch(including scripting language). I dont care if its paid or free. Ease of use is great but Non-essential since it can likely be learned over time. Preferrably not abandonware, or at least feature-rich if development has been completed. and lastly, performance is definitely important since I'll likely be building some grand designs as I settle in.

Skaven are my favorite so far, only race ive done two games of, though i did end up taking a Festus game to ultimate victory. Still havent played most of the races yet though.

I've been playing the hell out of Total War: Warhammer 3. I bounced off TW WH3 a year ago and picked it up again recently since there was a big sale.

Finally went in with a learning attitude and found i absolutely adore it(Same thing happened with EU4 funnily enough). The setting is a rather important draw for me. I look at the other TW games and dont experience any draw since it feels like unit diversity will be nonexistent since medieval, roman, or egyptian settings dont have much diversity in army composition between the empires historically(and its all humans), plus I dont think historical games like that will have magic like WH does.

I'm enjoying the Warhammer Fantasy universe so much and I absolutely cannot wait for more DLC and hopefully a TW WH4 in the future. I strongly recommend it for anyone into RTS and/or TB Grand strategy. The faction

One game I still pour one out and have a moment of silence for is Atlas Reactor. It was a 4v4 turn-based moba where each turn everyone queued up their actions at once and the actions played out over 3 phases. It was team death match style and had a very cool and varied cast of characters. There was even solid lore!

Sadly the game died because they "didn't have the money to keep the servers open". Which is probably true because it was an f2p game with poorly executed monetization and absolutely no marketing. By poorly executed monetization I mean they didn't do enough. The cosmetics were earnable ingame and they didn't put out a lot of cosmetics, characters, or other content.

The devs later tried to put out a single player roguelike in the Atlas universe but that also flopped for several reasons. Little to no hype or marketing(fucking again), it was always online, and the gameplay loop wasn't "cult hit that markets itself" level.

Oh and another game I never see mentioned anywhere is an old game by EA Phenomic, Battleforge. It was a, and I quote, "MMOCCRTSG". Which sounds dumb but it was a magnificent blend of rts and card game that was in an mmoish package due to coop being a large part of the game in addition to pvp and an auction house. This story has a little happier ending since Skylords Reborn is a community project that didn't let the flame die out as it were.

Really highlights the culture difference when on reddit i get a zingy call out and downvotes in response to my ignorance while on tildes i get context within an hour. Thank you. I'd label this exemplary but I'm pretty sure I havent unlocked labeling yet.

On reddit, i used to comment and even post somewhat often in my early days(11 year account), but it tapered off significantly in sync with the culture shifting away from discussion of the content.

One certain "breaking point" as it were when i saw one of those alignment chart memes about anime catgirls and someone had asked who the character in a certain spot was. I responded that it was Felix from re zero(it was the chaotic evil section since Felix is a fem-dressing male), having watched the anime recently. I then tune in to my inbox later to find that someone had shamed me for deadnaming 'Felis', and my comment was downvoted to hell while theirs had notable upvotes. It boggled my mind because 'Felix' is used all throughout the anime, so I guess it was one of those 'gotcha' moments that really push people off.

Storytime aside, I've been mostly browsing Tildes with my years-ingrained reddit habit of near 0 participation. I hope that Tildes' healthier atmosphere can help me work myself back to the interaction levels that i used to have, and I've been doing my best to passively absorb the rules and procedures here

As someone who was thinking of getting a tablet when it came around time for upgrading my S8, I ended up getting a fold 4 to almost entirely fill both roles. What i do these days is use it as a phone most of the time, but open it up to use as a tablet for reading news, kind of like a newspaper for me haha.

I think the folding feature is gonna stick around for a while. It'll probably be innovated on, but the concept of a phone that fills both roles seems like quite the appeal if they can swing it with the tech to make them cheaper and competitively durable to other phones while eliminating some pain points like the screen fold(which i have absolutely no issue with personally).
