Wine and Proton have continuous development, which helped a lot for the gaming facet of Linux. Valve stepped in and made its own library and ships it with Steam. It doesn't matter your distro, it installs natively.

Also, Vulkan is getting big there. DXVK is helping a lot to push games out of the Windows ecosystem. But after 2 years, I think Linux isn't in a good position still for the average crowd. Gamers use specialized hardware - e.g. mouse, keyboards, rgb. - and Linux has terrible support for it. Multi-monitor is also a nightmare. And it doesn't help that GTK (Gnome) and QT (KDE) are always in between tribal fights.

Reddit lost a lost of niche communities that I used to participate. It became another echo-chamber for advertisers to make money. Smooth sailing, right? In the end, corporations always shoot themselves in the foot to appease "investors" that will take every last dime, wanting always more and leaving at the first sign of loss. Just like we see with minimum wage workers and their employers.

The issue to me seems to be that although we're calling it Artificial Intelligence, it's not what we think of when we use those words.

I think you touched on a good point here. There is no sentient entity behind any of the output; it's just an algorithm, and it still needs an input. It is a virtual assistance interface, not artificial intelligence.

Thinking back to the Mass Effect games, they called it VI. It needs an input, will provide an output, but only withing programmed parameters. Yet, the AI would do whatever it wanted with input from itself. No human needed. It was a good approach about the tech and the philosophical discussion.

I see these VIs as a tool. They facilitate my job to create by providing skills that I miss. Yet, I still need to comb through the outputs. To me, their use is where number crunching and relationship between entities is so subtle that humans would take centuries to notice. But that's it, for now.

LLMs are just a craze for now. Like always, corporate is trying to milk something from retail advertising as world changing, when in fact, in its current form, it's not.

I understand your point and agree with it in part. Because of Bitcoin, Geothermal energy is being explored in El Salvador, bringing up technological advances to add another way to extract energy from the finite resources we have. Also, Bitcoin isn't frivolous, since it saved an awful lot of people these last years from collapsing in third-world countries from the dollar instability and global recession.

It's a tough sell, and I get involved in such discussions to learn more about other people's opinions and realities. I am not trying to change your mind, but understand where you stand and why you think that way.

I see crypto as an emerging technology still. Not only that, but I am not even sure blockchain will actually catch, I just know that Bitcoin has, and I have used it to avoid predatory banking.

Proof of Work creates value from energy. It had a terrible start, but it largely changed to renewable sources. Over 50% of BTC mining is already in renewables and more to come.

We trust our country currency because we need to, just like you said. We are forced to pay our taxes in said currency. Yet, it isn't the only thing that has value in the end. When a country falls, Gold still has value. So do Silver. They are unique elements that have a value that transcends that of a country currency.

Cryptocurrencies are passing through a probation of utility. A lot of people think of crypto as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), but in reality, it's only BTC that is decentralized. BTC already has a network effect big enough to be secure and join Gold and Silver in the long run. It has incredible liquidity and is accepted wide around. ETH is a smart contract network. It's probing Traditional Finance's practices into the crypto space. Yet, it had a lot of fundamental problems, like pre-mine, node centralization in AWS, etc.

People in third-world countries already use BTC to hedge against inflation from their country's currency. Now, people in the US are doing it too. Why? The USD is losing its trust. Third-world countries felt the money printing in their core, since imports are paid in USD, not in local currency.

In the end, Bitcoin isn't for day-to-day transactions, like going to the market, IMHO. It is a hedge against failing centralized systems, just like Gold and Silver. You can buy stuff with it, just like with Gold and Silver, but it's a bit harder. PayPal's centralized stable coin, just like USDC and USDT, is there just to fill the gap between BTC and USD and avoid over-taxation, since turning BTC into USD is taxable and being taxed over and over for day-to-day transactions is abusive, IMHO.

I am still waiting for the next bull run to actually form my final opinion on the matter.

A lot of countries that had extreme right-wing tactics used during elections had massive dissemination of this kind of content. Provoking the animal inside humans works.

That's why I like the stuff like Ying-Yang and Internal Wolves. It shows that we swing both ways, but our control is what matters most.

I just experienced the worst extratropical cyclone in my whole life. 2016 had something bad, but this was terrible. I felt powerless, it broke records, it destroyed simple people's houses. I really don't care what pseudo-thinkers and billionaires say; our world is changing. And the little people will suffer from it.

The 72 hours of downpour and winds up to hurricane levels. The anxiety of losing your roof, your house. Hundreds did. I was lucky.

In my opinion, you have a narrow view, built by the very system you admonish. Bear with me, please.

We are raised from birth to consume. We do it because our parents showed us that's "how the world works". Yet, very few break from that predatory circle. Some go deeper and lose sanity. Others seek asylum in money-founded faith. Everything appears to be about "profits". But it's about control.

Society increased rapidly, and capitalism gave the old money the ways to "enslave" people with labor and control them. Why do they want to control people? To not lose their status, their titles, their place at the top. They live completely different lives, lavishing in luxury unimaginable to us. They don't want to lose that.

Corporations are just their way to control things anonymously. The profits to keep their luxuries, like going to the moon in a holiday. The old "nobles" didn't vanish, they adapted. And they care only about themselves.

In the end, they are, again, losing that control. There are too many people. Privacy is their next step, as that is a major blunder in their control. Cryptocurrencies are another target, as they exert their control through traditional finance.

But yeah, they are going to run us to a no return point, retreat to their bunkers, and we are going to suffer. We aren't going to die. We'll endure, all for it to start again, like countless times.

Loneliness is brutal but if I have to throw all my values out of the window to not be lonely is it worth it?

I decided to quit the big city and settle in the rural area, to slow down and quit the Death March. It aligned well with my health conditions and my morals. But loneliness came with it. I would do it again, for I prefer no company at all if the alternative is what "friendship" is today.

Masses want ease of use, and the Fediverse doesn't offer that. To use Twitter or Reddit, you just need to install an app. You have access to the content and only need an account if you want to interact. It's as simple as it gets.

I think the Fediverse is a good starting concept. I would argue a common authentication and user management backend to all instances would be better. Instances would just host content and manage access permissions. That would avoid a lot of hassle, but it's too centralized. Maybe host the User DB on a blockchain? Who knows.

I am a multi (sapiosexual and pansexual) cis man. I always carried on as a bisexual male, but with time, I joined more diverse communities and noticed I felt attracted regardless if the person was cis or trans. Also, that if I couldn't hold a conversation level I am comfortable with, I didn't felt attracted, even if the person hit all other buttons.

Yet, I don't feel included in the communities for LGBTQIA+, since I am such a "broad" person.

Having options is good. Being in a transition phase is better, especially if we keep the decentralization.
