I beta tested it for a few weeks. I love the features such as timelines integration with steam API, can't wait until more and more games start making use of it.

Unfortunately as of now it doesn't work very well on Linux for me. I experienced a few bugs that make it (quite literally) unusable for me, such as when the interface hogs down to a halt.

I wasn't aware of the launch, so hopefully those things have improved.

It seems that the target audience for writing MediaWiki code is a niche, and already quite different from the one proposed in the original post. A non-tech person might not even know that they want to write mediawiki, and the fact that they get there makes them a totally different audience to begin with.

You mentioned that creating a directory as the first step isn't ideal. I had a look at page you referenced, I noticed that its first step is:

    Step 1
HTML elements have an opening and closing tag with content in between.

I haven't read the rest of either guides, but based on this initial step alone, I believe that someone without technical experience (like my mom) might find it more confusing than "create a directory".

Freecodecamp looks like an amazing resource, but it seems like there's an assumed level of knowledge that some may find trivial, others not. That's why I think different resources serves different people.

Not the person you're replying to, but my general feeling towards discord is that of a person that has given up. I declared privacy bankruptcy as soon as I used discord to chat. I made peace with that and I treat everything that I put there as public (much like I do with Tildes, for example).

I move my business elsewhere for business I care about. I know it's not the best mindset but to be fair there's nothing they could change to regain my trust. I just wish less people used it as a central point of contact.

Me, personally, could never stop caring. It's so damn important. I'll never stop caring about the things I believe in, and I, too, become more engaged the older I get, as I realize how much more important it is. I wouldn't be happier by choosing to stay ignorant to what's going on in the world, I'd be miserable.

A bunch of good suggestions already in the thread so I'm just going to drop one that blew my mind when I first learned it:
Escape+. (Press escape then full stop)

This populates your command with the latest argument from the last command used. I find it extremely useful, for example:

    ll /tmp/mydir
    cat <hotkey>
    It then becomes: cat /tmp/mydir
    Then I just continue typing

Did you use AI to help write your exemplary analysis? If so, I'd be very interested in understanding your process.

Off-topic: I initially took the article at face value and felt it resonated deeply with what I've been seeing and thinking, even though I couldn't express it as eloquently. Then, as is customary on Tildes, someone with a lot of expertise, like yourself, breaks down the original, offers more information, points out inconsistencies, and blows my mind because I thought the original was already an unbeatable masterpiece.

It's unreal to me the lengths people will go to defend giga corporations that will do everything in their power to profit, no matter how evil or unethical those practices are. They couldn't care less about any individual person, and they're certainly not doing anyone a favour as some people try to imply.

They will steal yours and everyone else's data without consent, they will train AIs on stolen content, they will purposely ruin the internet experience for thousands of people who aren't and won't ever be their customers. They will do everything they can to strangle the competition and any other player, big or small, that would arise, so that they become the only real option in the market. It's not a consumer's choice. They're not playing a fair and even game. We should collectively stop inferring that it is.

The problem is that other methods that work better are questionable, to say the least. I don't have a clue on what the solution to cheating might be in the long run, but, as an individual, non-professional gamer, I'm sure as hell don't want invasive, kernel-level programs (that are, in essence, malwares) to become the norm in gaming.

If anything, I really want Valve to succeed in their endeavours to find an alternative to this madness, and continue it's support to gaming on Linux.

I still watch competitive matches from time to time, but the game evolves so quickly (which is one of the main reasons for my appreciation) that I can barely follow what's happening.

I don't know if I'm ever getting back to it but it's patches like this that makes me want to reinstall and give it a go. Thanks for bringing this discussion to tildes!

The only thing I can really offer to this, based on the limited amount of context that can be provided, is that you confirm that your expectations are the same as theirs and their manager.

It's a situation I personally encounter frequently: individuals that expects others to work the same way or produce the same results as them. This desire for team members to mirror oneself is a common mistake, and more often than not comes from managers who are new to their role or have transitioned from individual contributor positions. Hiring/expecting people to have the same traits as you is a big mistake in terms of building trust and increase overall team dynamics and productivity.

My feeling/point/opinion is often already present in another comment and in a much more clear and precise way that I could ever communicate.

Also, I'm more willing to elaborate on the level that Tildes requires when I'm sitting in my desk with a keyboard. But I access Tildes on my phone the majority of the time. And while on the phone I feel uncomfortable to write anything other than simple answers, partially because I don't have the ease to research things as easily as I do on the computer.

I think the general issue is how intentionally poorly this trade is communicated. Much like cigarette packages, imagine a world where Google were forced to be crystal clear about what "free" really means and how many people they would scare off using their services.

If it was a honest "poor me, I also have bills to pay, please see this and", it would be perfectly okay but it's known their shady practices go way beyond that.

    I do mainly 3 things:

    1. Songkick / Spotify. Those are great for artists that you follow closely.
    2. Check Facebook events/groups (yea, I know. But I got a fake account for that and it's grand)
    3. A local newsletter related to the genre of music I like the most. There are more websites that I use for discovering stuff that I wouldn't know about otherwise.

I still get to find out a few things late or by friends but that mostly covers it.
