A point that ddv (Drew) has raised regarding Vaxry's response also highlights the disparity between the latter's thoughts on handling a trans person causing a stir compared to a transphobe doing it.

    Highlights from the blog post:

The Copilot Copyright Commitment extends Microsoft’s existing IP indemnification coverage to copyright claims relating to the use of our AI-powered Copilots, including the output they generate, specifically for paid versions of Microsoft commercial Copilot services and Bing Chat Enterprise.

There are important conditions to this program, recognizing that there are potential ways that our technology could intentionally be misused to generate harmful content. To protect against this, customers must use the content filters and other safety systems built into the product and must not attempt to generate infringing materials, including not providing input to a Copilot service that the customer does not have appropriate rights to use.

This new benefit doesn’t change Microsoft’s position that it does not claim any intellectual property rights in the outputs of its Copilot services.

What’s new in this article, compared to prior coverage of the (as of time of posting) current Linus Media Group controversies, is CEO Terren Tong has said that an outside investigator will be brought in regarding harassment accusations by former employee Madison Reeves.

Also, Linus claims to not recall any of the accounts Madison has talked about.

For the iOS version, are they any plans for compatibility with iOS 15? Haven’t been able to try out any of the other Tildes clients for iOS, since my iPhone just stopped getting major iOS versions.

Nintendo didn't send a DMCA takedown notice regarding Dolphin at all. Valve inquired Nintendo about the emulator, to which the latter cited the DMCA's anti-circumvention provisions as justification for blocking the Steam release of Dolphin. Valve then forwarded Nintendo's statement to Dolphin and required them to have an agreement with Nintendo, before the release could move forward.

The Dolphin Emulator team doesn't believe that the project is in any legal danger, due to the following:

    • The Wii Common Key used to decrypt Wii games was freely distributed for years without objection from Nintendo
    • Wii Common Key in Dolphin was contributed by a member of Team Twiizer, the group which extracted it from a Wii console with a pair of tweezers
    • Dolphin isn't primarily designed to circumvent protection, despite Nintendo's claims to the contrary
    • GameCube games aren't encrypted at all
    • Dolphin is also a game development platform; homebrew and mods exist that specifically target the emulator due to less limitations
    • Dolphin still falls under the DMCA's reverse engineering exemptions for interoperability
    • Even if the DMCA's anti-circumvention clause were to be interpreted as disallowing all Wii game protection circumvention, removing the Wii Common Key wouldn't make a difference anyways
    • Nintendo never claimed that Dolphin violated any copyright, since randomly-generated strings of letters and numbers aren't copyrightable under current US law

Since coming to an agreement with Nintendo is unlikely, Dolphin won't be releasing on Steam. Some features originally developed for it will still be coming out, however.

Red Hat's Mike McGrath (VP of Core Platforms Engineering) responds to the backlash stemming from the decision to close RHEL public source code access

    Highlights from the blog post:

We will always send our code upstream and abide by the open source licenses our products use, which includes the GPL.

I feel that much of the anger from our recent decision around the downstream sources comes from either those who do not want to pay for the time, effort and resources going into RHEL or those who want to repackage it for their own profit. This demand for RHEL code is disingenuous.

Simply rebuilding code, without adding value or changing it in any way, represents a real threat to open source companies everywhere. This is a real threat to open source, and one that has the potential to revert open source back into a hobbyist- and hackers-only activity.

    Just make sure that you have tissues on hand for the ending. ;~;

For people on iOS, it’s also on the Apple App Store.

Currently have a free VPS on Oracle Cloud that’s supposed to be running Ubuntu, but was converted in-place to Debian for YunoHost. Really tried to use Docker for getting multiple web apps on it but due to only having a free subdomain, most of the reverse proxy guides weren’t applicable; they were guiding towards hosting web apps per-subdomain. Someday when I can afford a full domain (or really any recurring payment), I’ll try with Docker again.
