    in no particular order, here are my favourite animes: paprika is a delightful movie with a wonderful soundtrack. the content touches on self-esteem as its materialized through work, and one's...

    in no particular order, here are my favourite animes:

    • paprika is a delightful movie with a wonderful soundtrack. the content touches on self-esteem as its materialized through work, and one's place in society. it's as much about how society that prioritizes productivity as it is about self-actualization
    • akira set the benchmark for animation globally on its release, and its soundtrack too is a cut above. the story is alright, but the characters are believable and likable
    • ghost in the shell (the original movie) is awesome. i love the universe they built and how the characters navigate it. the opening track will live in my heart forever. it addresses very philosophical questions about what it means to be human, and where the line is drawn between one's soul and one's body
    • parasyte: the maxim is an underrated anime that i come back to quite often. i really like how it explores humanity's place in nature in a critical manner, especially as a vegan and total liberation anarchist
    • frieren: beyond journey's end is a heartfelt medication on emotional development, time, aging, and the human experiences through it all. the main character struggles to relate to others but, through deliberation in her relationships, manages to make meaningful strides and it's all very rewarding to see
    • apothecary diaries season 1 is so good. imagine csi: miami except it's about a teenage girl in medieval china
    • usagi drop is one that caught me off guard. you follow daikichi - a 30-something year old bachelor - as he impulsively adopts a daughter and struggles to navigate life as a new dad. it's so heartwarming i cannot put it into words

    my manga corpus is far smaller, but:

    • akira the manga was, in my opinion, way way more rewarding to read than the movie. the story is different, and the characters are far more fleshed out, the scenarios more intense. the ending, much more satisfying. plus there are so many two-page spreads that are just jaw-droppingly detailed and beautiful
    • dorohedoro a wonderful, fun adventure with lovable characters who experience some surprising turns. you follow kaiman as he tries to get his body back to normal and learn who the man in his mouth is, and during this adventure you learn about a wonderfully unique world where silly sorcerors with weird abilities duke it out with scum from "the hole" with no powers, and devils who have near omnipotence doing pretty much everything out of boredom. it's dark, but funny, but heartwarming all at once. don't read on an empty stomach though or you're gonna want gyozas. actually, who am i kidding? you'll want them no matter what
    • berserk i know it's cliche but it's worth the read. you follow guts, who is a huge asshole because of a life of trauma and abuse, and you get this game-of-thrones-on-crack universe of knights and kings and mercs and demons and shamans and witches and a whole lot of violence

    someone recommended matrix3 to me, which is similar to umatrix (what ubo was built to replace), but using manifest v3 and should be compatible with modern chromium based browsers of course, i...

    have you tried directly calling out this behaviour? without insulting him or being reactive, just let him know that "hey, you may not realize you're doing this, but..." and that it sucks to engage...

    i would like to also say that guys like this sometimes don't always react well in the moment, but might think about it more later and try to be mindful of it in the future

    i would like to cover other security properties: immutability, bootstrapped, etc. also, eventually i would like to add support (or fork it to support) for vms, ideally as a dom0 for xen

    they're generally pretty measured in their opinions of stuff like this. they didn't praise it by any means, but said they tend to use it as their go-to when learning a new language. something...

    they've been doing computer stuff (from offsec to operating system design to programming) for like 30 years, for some context

    ive been also getting back into a short morning calisthenics routine with pushups (with resistance bands), bicep curls, and standing skull crushers to supplement the cycling since - as my friends say - im "all legs"

    for classical, which i do when im winding down at night, it's mostly been cante ostinato; but i recently discovered park jiha, by whom i really enjoyed all living things.

    otherwise, i have been slamming lots of punk bands: zodiak, zeal's illusion of peace, dropdead's 1993 album, and anything by gouge away

    whenever thats not going, im usually listening to modest by default

    just finished anarchist pedagogies, and was pretty bored by it. i am trying to read some books on anarchist parenting, or at least how the two subjects can relate to each other; but this was more...

    just finished anarchist pedagogies, and was pretty bored by it. i am trying to read some books on anarchist parenting, or at least how the two subjects can relate to each other; but this was more of an academic endeavour and likewise the book itself was a series of essays. there were some fascinating tidbits to be sure, but i forced myself to cram the last ~200 pages last weekend just to be done with it

    now working on the solutions are already here, which i discovered via andrewism on youtube. so far it's pretty bleak but seems to be leading towards a pitch on degrowth and looking towards indigenous peoples for how to address our climate collapse

    it's excellent for searing, so i cook tofu in mine. i sear the whole block really well done so it's charred, then slice it and top a bowl of rice with it. add hoisin, then cabbage, green onion,...

    eat, and pass out cause it's so heavy
