I thought this deserves its own post and discussion separate from the extensions-related one.
It really is a shame that one of, if not the best manga reader out there, met its demise so quickly. What are people's thoughts on how this all played out? Are you all planning to migrate to a fork or a different app all together?
Neko was already the recommended app for MangaDex on Android. I don't think Tachiyomi's death will be as big of a deal as some make it out to be. There will definitely be some new Tachiyomi forks...

It'll make things more annoying to track, but it's not like this was an app on the playstore. Many people in the know enough to find the github repo can probably track the forks that pop up.

It's becoming clear you go for the second nicest with piracy things haha. With popularity comes notoriety and eventually Cease and Desists. The second nicest flies under the radar. This happened...

This happened to the Pirate Bay, YouTube Vanced, and honestly a slew of others.

Not surprised. There was a lot of coping in reddit threads/discord, but in the end, the developers have nothing to gain but everything to lose. When you already volunteer valuable labor for no reward, of course you're not going to have the appetite to dedicate hundreds of thousands of dollars at minimum to legally defend your ability to volunteer your time.
It'd be another question if they were, say, a company that made money. Then you'd weigh your likelihood of winning, estimated legal costs, and current profit. But for volunteer work? That equation is heavily skewed to one side.
Update: A longtime Tachiyomi contributor started a "successor"/fork called Mihon which made its first release a few hours ago: https://github.com/mihonapp/mihon

Damn, that sucks. I just did the latest update that removed extensions too, and feel like an idiot because I didn't read the patch notes before hand. I can probably find an older .apk but still,...

I can probably find an older .apk but still, big sad
I'm not a tachiyomi user, so I don't know which version made the change, but you can find all the old versions with APKs here on GitHub https://github.com/tachiyomiorg/tachiyomi/releases
I don't know about the latest version, but as of Version 0.15 they added a feature to add external repos. So you might be able to do that? I used this repo for the record. It no longer has the...

Even if you were to download an older version, it would still be missing extensions too as the original extension repo is long gone. Update to the latest version and check one of the two...
Even if you were to download an older version, it would still be missing extensions too as the original extension repo is long gone. Update to the latest version and check one of the two alternatives repos (the one linked by CannibalisticApple is the main one) instead. You'll need to re-trust the extensions, but after that it should still work fine.
You're still SOL if your current extensions need a fix due to constant backend changes on service providers. I think bato.to has already broken since the change. The latest update gave us the...
You're still SOL if your current extensions need a fix due to constant backend changes on service providers. I think bato.to has already broken since the change. The latest update gave us the option to use alternative extension sources, so in theory it should still work unless there is a need for a major change within Tachi's core code.
In hindsight, now that they've shut development down, the option to load alternative extension sources became a blessing in disguise.

If you're migrating from an older version, you'll need to re-trust your extensions so they work. As for the future in general, there are plans for a new spiritual/mainline fork named "Mihon". Alternatively, there is also a different manga reader called "Kotatsu" on F-Droid that seems to be decent-ish. I'm giving it a quick go in case Tachi forks go cold, and it is just missing some small touches so far.
Cheers. Been using Mihon last week or so. Your right. Its very similar to Tachiyomi original. Had to download the extensions for it separately. Question though. Do i need to update the extensions...

You can check Webview if there is new content that Mihon can't find. I had a similar problem like you and what fixed it for me was deleting all the old Tachyomi extensions and then installing the...

Don't link to it or say people should do it and you're golden.

It'll fork out. Like youtube did with vanced it'll be a hydra of open source content to repeat. Maybe Kakao specifically won't be possible to access.

Which is the latest update safest to update to?
What happens to all the extensions in the foreseeable future?

Which ones closest to the way Tachiyomi works?. Haven't had time to update to last update yet
Mihon is basically just Tachiyomi continued by an active Tachiyomi contributor.
Your backups should be compatible to import in.

Odd query. Is it taboo to talk about extensions for some reason ? (Aside from obvious...)

Cool . have seen nowhere, where people have talked about which ones good or bad
