I can't believe he did this
What an amazing and delightful trolling of his fans, I love it. I also greatly appreciated the completely hammed-up presentation. Hope to scrape together enough cash to throw at the hardcover books.
Edit: thanks @mycketforvirrad for moving this to the correct group, I spaced it in my excitement and forgot that ~books existed (because I was not subscribed?! fixed that)
Don't want to spoil, everyone should watch the video! This truly brought like over an hour of joy to my day. The delivery was hysterical; every time he sat back down he pulled out another gigantic...

This truly brought like over an hour of joy to my day. The delivery was hysterical; every time he sat back down he pulled out another gigantic stack of paper. The idea of him just dumping this on a table for his staff to see with no explanation has me giggling. And we're getting four books out of it?? I signed up on Kickstarter the moment the video ended.
The whole was just so delightful. And I'm so glad to see that even with all of this, he's spending more time with his family!
I'm certain it's not intended that way, he's defended Rothfuss and Martin a bunch of times about them having very different processes from him. Buuuuut..... It will absolutely be taken that way by...

Buuuuut.....
It will absolutely be taken that way by the general fantasy community, I'm sure.
And it will absolutely solidify the "Brando Sando is actually triplets/an AI/multiple people" meme and the "oops I accidentally a novel" memes. r/cremposting is already having a field day.
Why should I care about this guy? And by that I mean, without wanting to spoil the video, what kind of an author is he? I kinda want to reserve the opportunity to jump into his books blind, but I...

And by that I mean, without wanting to spoil the video, what kind of an author is he? I kinda want to reserve the opportunity to jump into his books blind, but I also have no idea what to expect. What kind of stories can I expect? What kind of style? Is he my new favorite author, as someone who barely has time to read/listen to a few books a year?
He seems to be a big deal, but I've never heard of him.

He's a Fantasy author from the U.S. who writes a lot of Epic Fantasy doorstoppers (big, big books). He was the author who was tapped to finish Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series after the author passed away, and since then he has been consistently one of the top selling and most popular authors in the Fantasy genre.
I'd say his writing is often focused on worldbuilding and setting, although his latest books have been more character focused. He often comes up with very interesting worlds with very carefully thought out and meticulously detailed magic systems, which some readers love and others, well, don't...
I'd say that his prose is, generously speaking, unadorned. This is intentional, he describes it as "windowpane prose" after a quote by George Orwell which says that "Good prose should be transparent, like a window pane". His characterization (at least in all but his earliest books) is generally very strong, but I will say that occasionally his dialogue reads a little awkwardly.
I'm a big fan, but I don't know that Sanderson is for everybody. If you mostly read literary fiction then you could probably give him a pass. If you're into genre fiction or fantasy, I'd give him a shot. He's very popular and VERY prolific, so if you end up liking his stuff there's a lot of it and no sign of slowing down any time soon.
I will never not be jealous of his energy. Hell, Stephen King is about the only author I can think of who produced a similar amount in short order, and he had the help of cocaine, unlike...

This was a great surprise to stumble across today, glad to get myself in for some e-books at least. I'd love the hardcovers, but can't justify them in my limited space. I'm really excited to see what he's churned out for us.
I have never read one of his books.. ...nor have I seen him speak before, but I like this guy's attitude. Also he's just made nearly $11m in less than 24 hours on kickstarter. Not bad going. I...

If you want to dip your toe in before considering backing the Kickstarter (it'll run for a month) I'd recommend starting with Warbreaker (it's free!). It's a great story and is self-contained in...
If you want to dip your toe in before considering backing the Kickstarter (it'll run for a month) I'd recommend starting with Warbreaker (it's free!). It's a great story and is self-contained in that you don't need to know anything about any of his other books. There are small bonus links to his other series if you really want to dig for them, but they are entirely unnecessary to know if you just want to enjoy the story. If you enjoy that one, try Mistborn which is a trilogy.
Fantasy isn't really my thing - I can count on the fingers of one hand the fantasy books I've liked (mostly Alan Garner, also that one book Ann Leckie did) - but I might give it a shot just cos he...

That page about Warbreaker appears to contain links to docx files of various drafts, I'm sure I can find the final edition in a more ereader-friendly format via my local library though.

Yup
It really did make my whole day. I'm signing up as soon as I smooth comb over my finances for the month.Same
Today was a rough day for me and this really cheered me up.
Pretty funny, and while I doubt it's intentional, feels a bit like subtweeting GRRM and Rothfuss.
I'm certain it's not intended that way, he's defended Rothfuss and Martin a bunch of times about them having very different processes from him.

No worries! Happy to help.

There goes $400+...Its hard to tell if the gift boxes will be worth it, but it'll be nice to treat myself.
(crying) He can't keep getting away with it!
