Has anyone heard about these AR glasses coming out from Brilliant Labs later this year? They are hopping on the AI assistant hype train with their marketing, but these seems like more of a tinkering or development platform.
Brilliant Labs previously made the Monocle which is an open source AR development platform. I was thinking of buying one to tinker with, but I saw they are releasing a full pair of glasses later this year for almost the same price.
Most of the complaints I've seen online seem to center around specialized hardware to use a LLM is dumb when you can just download an app on your phone. I think people are seeing this as a consumer product instead of a development platform for AR apps.
It's open source, fairly cheap, and outsources most of the computing to a smartphone or PC over bluetooth.
Has anyone had any experience making projects for the Monocle? Is anyone planning on picking up the Frame when it comes out?
No subscription needed! It’s all open source and they are open about what specific parts are in the glasses. You don’t even need to use their subscription for the AI features. You can get your own...

You can upload Lua over Bluetooth and run whatever you write on your computer.

The AR glasses aren't out yet, but their AR monocle has somewhat of a community. They have GitHub links for projects on their website. They also have a discord that is fairly active.

I don't have the monocle, because I don't like the form factor. The frame looks like something I can actually use though. I'm pretty much entirely interested in developing my own programs for it.

I'm intrigued, but I think I would prefer something less distinctive. I'm not sure if people remember the backlash around Google glass, but some of it was pretty strong. I'd like to be able to fly...

The thing that I think would be amazing would be if it's constantly classifying what it sees so that you can finally ask it "where are my keys" and it will be able to show you where they are.
Like others, my prescription is too strong for their offering, so this will remain something for others to try for now.
Are there any actual reviews of these things yet? I've seen that they have shipped to some people but I haven't been able to find any legitimate reviews that aren't just from Brilliant.

Estimated delivery dates, as far as I can tell, are early May (~6th?), despite first orders shipping in mid April. I'm awaiting reviews before deciding if I want a pair, though they're apparently...

I actually preordered one a few weeks ago, and yeah, they're just not doing prescription lenses at all for now. I'm (probably?) not in the first batch but they're saying I'll get shipping info...

Damn that sucks. They do have the monocle which clips onto your existing glasses, but it wouldn't be as attractive to wear in public if that's what you wanted to do.

It's not my style of glasses either, but I figured this would've been a fun thing to try out. Having insufficient prescription glasses is a hard stop though. Perhaps sometime in the future they'll...

Perhaps sometime in the future they'll offer that extra 0,50. I do get it. My lenses are fine, but the required strength to correct my cylinders needs glasses that are probably just ever too thick for their design.

What happens when the company goes out of business and you can't use their subscription anymore? Are they hackable to not need a subscription?

I've already preordered mine.
Did you have the monocle before? Are you buying it to use their out of the box AI features or because you want to develop your own programs for it?

Ah too bad, their prescription glasses aren't sufficient. My cylinder is all messed up and they just barely fall short of reaching the required level.

What is the maximum prescription these glasses can handle? I can't get my hands on a concrete number, which is annoying.
-6 to +3 for sphere, -2 to +2 for cylinder, 0 to 180 axis and a pupillary distance between 58 and 72.
Wonderful, thank you.
