What to do with NFC tags
I picked up 20 NFC tags (link) and they seem to be alright with iOS after I (re?)format them to NDEF.
Anyway, I have a few things setup:
- tap to play music in the dining room over a Google Home speaker
- tap to turn off some lights and prep for bed etc
- tap to change some Hue scenes
... and that's about it. I don't have trouble waking up to an alarm, so I don't need to go down that route. Anyone have any fun things you're doing with tags?
Tap to flush the toilet. Troll your guests by asking them to install an app so they can flush.
When they ask what the fuck is wrong with you just tell them "oh yeah i asked the owner to change this but he's really slow..."
My most useful sticker is one next to my tea station that starts a tea-appropriate timer on a tap.

Back in pre-COVID, pre-wireless headphones times I put a sticker in my old Prius so that my phone enabled the Bluetooth antenna (for handsfree calling) and launched Pocketcasts.
I don't know that they're the same kind, but I used sticker NFCs to make pirated amiibos so my wife could pick and choose villagers for her Animal Crossing island. I've got a whole bunch of them left, so I'd love to see what suggestions show up so I can try some stuff out.
Keeping track of home inventory. Especially post-COVID, I try to keep at least a 3 month supply of any good that I wouldn't want to live a week without. I use barcodes, but NFC would be way easier for tracking removals.
With Home Assistant I'd probably setup an NFC on my dining table to pause the automation to turn off lights when no motion detected.
I wish I had picked up a bunch of those Amazon Dash buttons back in the day. They're perfect for this.
Scan to silence your alarm in order to force you out of bed in the morning.
