It's not fried but the only chicken I've had that compared to fried was made in a romertopf, an earthenware vessel with a glazed bottom but a water soaked top terra cotta vessel. My dad's GF coats hers in condensed milk and paprika, and it's the best chicken I've had that wasn't fried, and even beat any fried chicken I've had.
EDIT: I should mention it's not really a comparison if it's much better.
I have never met fried chicken I won't eat. I don't know if it's the big names are sensitive, or if I've got a garbage gut (definitely not true), but I think even different restaurants as...

KFC and Popeyes don't compare, but Raising Cane's wings are 10/10 above everything else, for example
The best "tradition" I can think of is regularly executable, simple fare that tastes passably decent and doesn't require one's entire attention to enjoy, which most joints I've been to, mostly major chicken chains, manage to do alright.
