I wished the internet economy could just be me paying $x a month for Google Search/Docs/Drive/Youtube/Gmail and that being the source of their income

When I was a child, my grandmother told me "Don't let anybody tell you these are your golden years. They're gold-plated."

As a kid, I really appreciated that; most people idolise childhood but there's plenty of struggle, confusion, and general lack of freedom. I think a lot of adults give themselves a hard time because children are simply not allowed the independence to e.g. take a break or decide they're too sick to work, and it can be hard to grow out of that mindset.

This seems like the kind of thing that needs to be kept as simple as possible for it to be useful at scale. (No, I don’t have a source, but I’d be interested to see what kind of research has been done into this?)

I think you'd enjoy Bokida - Heartfelt Reunion. An exploratory, relaxed puzzler that I thought had surprising depth and really hit a "Zen" feeling.

Also, TUNIC. A beautiful and unabashed love letter to The Legend of Zelda, FEZ, and others, with many secrets.

Other recommendations: Kentucky Route Zero, Inscryption, The Stanley Parable.

If you really want a challenge to figure out… try Starseed Pilgrim 👹

I'm a fan of Inconsolata, undoubtedly in part because it's the typeface used throughout the excellent game Kentucky Route Zero.

I've recently discovered and have been really enjoying Hollywood Burns; dark synthwave inspired (unsurprisingly) by cinematic scores, B-movies, and apparently specific films like Gremlins 2: The New Batch (and probably others that have gone over my head).
Suggested listening: Scherzo No. 5 in Death Minor

Also recently re-discovered keiretsu, a fantastic UK-based instrumental drum 'n bass group from the early 00s. Very much wish I'd got to see them live and that they'd put out more than the single studio album.
    Suggested listening: Pinch Assault

Finally, I keep going back and finding more amazing experimental work by the prolific Louie Zong. I've listened to DODONGO (what if The Legend of Zelda but Ratatat?) and Let's-A-Go! (what if Mario but Disco Italia?) several times each, and he's got many, many other mini-albums in similarly eclectic but wonderfully executed styles.
Suggested listening: Dragon Roost, Is This Just A Dream

Except for vegetarians and perhaps the hyperlipidemic, fried chicken is beloved nearly universally.

I appreciate this explanation because it makes me feel extremely smug about completing the 'main' game, doing a few of the secret puzzles, and then simply deciding I'd had enough.

Good news! Your biggest concern is possibly the easiest one to address: You can avoid data breaches and the loss of PII by not collecting any in the first place. The overwhelming majority of information collected by sites isn't absolutely necessary for delivering a service and is collected for marketing information or 'just in case'.

Collect the absolute bare minimum of information you need, and then challenge yourself as to whether you even need that. A genuine, provable dedication to user privacy is still quite a rare USP, and nobody can steal what you don't have.

Yea, the distinction between 'ads' and 'adtech' is important and one that I never really understood until I saw this post by Doc Searl, who also has an excellent blog series discussing adtech and its intrusiveness.

As far as I can recall, nobody has even attempted to do traditional 'ads' on the internet; it's completely unthinkable to even try something that doesn't come bundled with a hundred different forms of tracking and analytics.
