I made pho on Saturday. Well, I started on Friday and simmered the bones and stuff for like 20 hours. There's still about a gallon of gelatinous broth in my fridge, gonna have to portion and freeze it I think. Turned out pretty well, missing something compared to my favorite restaurants but still worthwhile.

I also recently made loco moco for the first time and boy howdy the effort to taste ratio is way more favorable there. Both were crowd pleasers but I'm way more likely to fry up some beef patties with gravy in the near future.

Hello, my first post here on tildes.

Not trying to be contrarian for contrarians sake; but I strongly dislike cooking food, and I have no idea why. If I could take a food-pill daily (or a few times a day) I would. My wife usually cooks (and is quite good at it), but last night I had to cook because of scheduling constraints; it always feels like such an annoying chore. I'm glad my daughter is old enough to lend a hand now.

I ended up heating a frozen, packaged lasagna in the oven, and my daughter and I made some roasted broccoli with olive oil and lemon pepper; and threw some sausages on the same sheet pan. The kids didn't like the lasagna at all, it was meh; but I just eat it because again, I'd eat a pill if that were an option instead.

I tried making one of those "shakes" that is supposed to be nutritionally complete for a while a few years ago; but making it was such a pain in the ass, haha. I guess there are pre-packaged ones these days but they cost a lot last I looked.

I've met a couple of people that could simply give up food tomorrow and live without the taste, only to find out that both had an issue with either palette or smell which took away their enjoyment. It might be worth getting that checked.

However, if you can smell and taste fine and you simply find food "meh", there are so many Soylent options and alternatives on the market these days it's crazy. From pre-packaged bars and drinks to straight mix-and-drink powders. At least you'd get everything you need and not have to think about it.

I'm someone who really enjoys good food, but I am also busy.

Drop an egg in the ramen towards the end is always really good too. And a good source of protein for your meal.

I'll definitely make it again. (though I did use two different types of cheese for the topping)

The recipe is in dutch but I guess that wont stop any of you:

We got gifted a dozen organic, free-range eggs from a local farmer. I made a giant cast-iron pan frittata last night with fresh asparagus, micro basil (trimmings from seedling starts), dill, red onion and garlic, a little smoked salmon, and Parmesan.

The bottom cooked a bit more than I'd like, still not used to induction burners yet, but the frittata was otherwise scrumptious and will be dinner for a few days.

After almost three years since I backed it on Kickstarter, my Savepod for Keurig came in. Basically, it's a compostable base you slide into a plastic ring that you can fill with your own coffee. Their claims were 1) no waste as it's compostable, 2) cheaper, 3) easier to use than refillable pods, and 4) the coffee will taste better.

We went on a trip to New Orleans last month, and I picked up a can of Cafe du Monde chicory coffee to use when it finally arrived. Happy to report that at least claim 3 & 4 are true - easily the best coffee I've ever had from a Keurig. I suspect 1 is true, but we don't compost (it's definitely not plastic, though). Waiting to see what the compostable cup refills cost to figure out 2.

Been watching more YouTube recipes lately. Marinated some chicken thighs, gingee, shallots, sesame oil, chicken stock and rice all cooked in rice cooker . turned out decent.

Brian Lagerstrom's one pot spaghetti. It's an absolute gamechanger, I'm thrilled with how flavourful it is, how the sauce clings to the pasta and how much better it is texturally. I make it with 7% fat turkey mince to trim the calories a bit.
