I eat a boatload of pizza, which I typically do on the BBQ... but during Winter you can't get it hot enough to make good pizza, so I am super tempted to get one of these just for that fact. However, the ability to also make good flatbread and all the other recipes they highlight in this video would be icing. :P

Anyone here have any experience using such a device? One of my friends swears by his Presto Pizzaz, but that seems way less versatile than the full mini-oven does to me.

It's really hard to replace a good 750-800 F (~400-425 C) oven. A preheated stone in the broiler will get you part way there (it'll get the crust, but the toppings won't crisp up right even with the oven on high). A grill can be good, but you can also have issues in the winter as you noted. My brother has a Big Green Egg which is pretty good from a convection / superheating point of view, but charcoal is a bit of the pain in the ass IMO. This kinda looks interesting, but a little cramped for my dough rolling skills. I also would worry about what happens if your toppings start to leak / smoke / burn -- grills and real pizza ovens will eat that for lunch, not as sure here.

Everyone is moving away from stones to either steels or even aluminum plates. I've had a steel for years now --- and you can crank out some really nice pizzas in a normal 550 oven with a good preheat then run the pre-heated boiler on high for the bake.

The Ooni and related ovens are KILLING it these days. I run /r/pizza... and a good portion of my actual mod work is reverse searching photos of the pizzas from these ovens. Some of them look way too good to come from a civilian :)

Goddamn! Now I can see what you meant by the results looking way too good for a homemade pizza. 🤤

If you get one, post some pics to my sub! Either of these recipes will work well. :)

You can get a bit closer by making another layer with ceramic tiles above the pizza in the oven. I really enjoyed watching this video on pizza making recently:...

For me, it's gotta have that leoparding on the bottom and char on the top, which is pretty much impossible to get in a conventional home oven (even with a pizza stone), or it ain't worth the effort of making it fresh IMO. I still cook a fair amount of frozen pizzas in the oven when I am feeling super lazy, and the frozen rising crust kind is pretty decent these days, but they just can't compare to a thin crust, hand tossed pizza done on the grill.
