Note, you will need a Meta account instead. This is a difference, however. It's quite normal for consoles to require accounts (if nothing else you need to tie Quest purchases to something - think about Xbox live accounts for Xboxes, PSN for Playstations, and so forth), and this means that it's no longer tied to a social media account.

You can have a burner account without being in violation of Facebook ToS, for instance.

This is a nice improvement, but I will still never willingly give Facebook money under any circumstances.

I ended up getting a Quest 2 for free and for some reason expected that because I kept my account semi-active to retain full Messenger access that would be enough. But it restored my personal Facebook page automatically when I connected it, and it must have broadcast that out because I got a flurry of friend requests from people who I had befriended since I disabled it nearly a year ago.

I'm probably one of the narrow field of people who this is a huge and promising change for as it will let me be able to disable that profile page and continue providing Facebook with almost no more good future data.

We have 80 Quest2 HMDs that we make available for students/classes. Guess what happens when you try to mass create FB accounts? Flagged as robots constantly (understandable, but still intensely frustrating). Here's hoping Meta accounts are more forgiving and/or easier to manage.

Meanwhile, if pretty much any other company on Earth could make a stand-alone HMD that competes with Oculus, that'd be great. Lookin at you Apple.

I was going to ask "shouldn't you be using their business offering?" and I just noticed they killed the b2b line end of last year. Jeez, I really should have known about this.

Yea, we were real pissed when they did that. Basically with no notice, and no plan for replacement. It was a real smooth setup when they were still offering it though. Get 10 HMDs shipped in, turn...
