Of course the most obvious question is when? Tinfoil hat on. They waited for diablo 4 to drop first so they could adjust POE2 to make it address all the shortcomings of blizzard.

D4 is leagues better than D3 was at launch, they did step in it with the recent patch but they're retuning much of it apparently and listening to player feedback.

For what it's worth I've never been able to really dig PoE. I was disappointed with D3 when it launched and turned to PoE afterwards hoping for something better... problem is the game feel/moment to moment gameplay of Diablo is immaculate and PoE's was... garbage, it was garbage. It has improved since them but it still doesn't feel great to me.

I just meant that Blizz doesn't seem to have belly-flopped the release. But it wouldn't have been a surprise if they had.

If I wasn't still playing Tears of the Kingdom I would have bought it by now.

At the end of the video they talk about the beta being next year (I didnt pay too much attention to the date beyond that), so I would assume it's still at least a year away, perhaps 1.5

Mid-June-ish next year for a closed beta, so I'd say end of next year?

29:29 into the video, closed beta starts June 7, 2024. That said, it's a year away, so that could still change.

I have to watch the gameplay yet but I'm honestly kinda shocked that the closed beta is starting approx. in a year. I was absolutely sure we'd get the beta at the end of this year and maybe the full game in summer next year at the latest. But of course heaps better than just releasing an unfinished mess.

Good show though, it looks like they've taken a lot of their learnings and applied it to PoE2. I'm looking forward to it even if closed beta is a year from now.

Honestly, having watched almost all of the coverage so far (missed a few hours last night) I really am feeling that GGG is really justified in making the game separate. They're simply changing so many approaches that poe1 has had for it's entire history that they have to make poe2 separate. No crafting bench, support gems don't add much damage, power/frenzy/endurance charges are spenders not buffs, flasks are purely reactive rather than a buff.

It's pretty much to the point where I'm not even excited for poe2 as "the next big thing for poe". It's simply it's own game that just happens to borrow a lot of ideas and names from poe1.

i watched about half of the gameplay video and it looks awesome and a lot of the changes mentioned seemed great. i’ve felt like PoE is what i want Diablo to be. i have diablo 4 and it’s fine but im much more excited about PoE 2.
