The March date for the original Switch worked out incredibly well, I liked that by the holidays the system was out and had some games available, and it also meant mode time to cook for games releasing with it (for example Mario Odyssey releasing 7 months later instead of being pushed at launch to make the holiday launch window).

Nobody cares about the actual story in Deadpool and that's kind of the point.

What he said was right on the money though. He said that Marvel/similar superhero movies have shoved in enough winky corny moments to become the de facto comedies in movie theatres. Dramas still largely hit theatres, animated movies, horror stuff... but comedies have largely moved to streaming services because they now "compete" with the homogenous Marvel/Star Wars stuff. Average Guy who might have gone to the theatres and previously would have chosen your average comedy movie now chooses to see a Marvel movie instead, and barely any actual comedies hit movie theatres at all these days and the ones that do usually do badly... yet they remain popular on streaming. People going to the theatres often seem to go for the big bombastic stuff and Marvel maintaining a jokey tone (even if the comedy is awful) satiates the laugh factor for some people.
Movie theatre comedy is basically dead at this point. Marvel isn't the only reason but it's a big part of it. The evaporation of home video sales doesn't help.

Xbox definitely is lacking for Japanese games which is unfortunate - a number of more niche releases skip Xbox and just do Switch, then probably PC, then PS4/5. On the flipside, Microsoft clearly sees some kind of audience bc they have locked down a bunch of stuff for Game Pass -- including Atlus stuff like Persona 3/4/5, 3 Reload on day 1, Metaphor Re Fantazio on day 1, Soul Hackers 2 on day 1. But they can't push stuff if it doesn't make it to the console in the first place, mostly bc many Japanese games sell best in Japan and Xbox is almost nonexistent there and probably always will be.
Having said all that -- if I'm going to actually BUY those Japanese games I'd rather do it on Switch which is why I have one. Especially for long JRPGs I'd rather be able to play them in handheld when I like. Of course there's remote play and XCloud but that's not quite the same.

Game Pass is much much better than PS+ and is more competitively priced - the difference is so big they aren't even really comparable imo. That said, if OP's dad is a more casual gamer he might not play enough to get his money's worth out of it vs just buying the odd game here or there.
Game Pass is the reason to buy an Xbox. For a regular player, it's a much better value.
Plus, if you go for PS5, the PlayStation controller will be more immersive and probably blow his mind.
Just personal opinion but I wouldn't buy a system for this. It's a gimmick, it's fun at first and will make him go "cool!", but it gets old fast.
The two places I would say the PS5 excels over Xbox are a) first party exclusives, which are increasingly expensive and frankly not as impressive as they used to be but that's just my opinion, and b) the Japanese game library (though the PS5 is itself not as good as the Switch in this regard). I doubt OP's dad will care about that though.
I don't think the PS5 is worth the money, because it's not just a pricy console but Sony nickels and dimes you hard after that. You can get a year of Game Pass with tons of new releases for $199 regular price here in Canada... or you can pay $100 for a single new PS5 game on release day.
I would recommend a used PS4 if OP can find one for a decent price. There's a lot of PS4 exclusives that can be found very very cheap and of course plenty of other titles including many still launching for last gen systems.
If they are dead set on a current gen system... it's harder to recommend either honestly. Do you want value and is dad gonna play regularly? Get Xbox + Game Pass. Do you want the hottest latest most hype thing and price is not a factor? Get a PS5.
If the Switch/Nintendo appeals to dad I'd buy that over a PS5, although now there is a new Nintendo system coming soon.

My car is a 2013 model and I'm really not looking forward to replacing it.

At least for service industries I think you are wrong. There are alternatives that have their shit together. I've gone to a couple restaurants recently and had a pretty bad experience, and I'd chalk it up to staffing shortages -- employees being overloaded, or probably being new hires who have no idea what they're doing, or possibly both. And I'm not going back to those restaurants. There's others that, even if they too are facing staffing shortages, are doing just fine. Or maybe in some cases may be less popular so they're less overloaded (although the last bad restaurant visit I had wasn't particularly busy).
So to me there does seem to be a reason to improve, because these places have lost my business and it'll be hard to get it back. Might be different if you live in a small town and there's only so many joints but I don't.

Part of the problem was the very narrow viewing angle, if you moved out of it everything would skew and doing that many times would cause the headaches. The New 3DS models had a much wider viewing angle for the 3D. With a bigger screen I imagine it would be even more generous.
The real issue is you'd need 3D content to take advantage anyway and there isn't much of it. At least on the 3DS you had 3D stuff available for most games.

Gat Out of Hell was 2015 - reviews were not super kind and it didn't seem to sell very well (for what it's worth, I enjoyed it).
Agents of Mayhem was 2017, again not super warmly received, and sales seemed pretty dismal. I remember I bought a copy of it maybe a year after it came out for $3 and never even touched it.
Then they didn't do anything new until the newest Saints Row which clearly sold way under what they needed it to do... it was the last chance and it was a miss.

I don't think that many people watched the 3D Clone Wars show but its fans are hard-core about it and it had enough of an audience to keep going (probably because it seems like it was made on the cheap, all those 3D animated shows that followed it do). I tried to get into it and couldn't. I think later on the show matures but at the start it's a straight up kids' show, and not a very interesting one, with rather long episodes. So I peaced out. And since Rebels and Resistance seem kid-oriented and follow TCW I never watched those either.
Then came Disney and... blech.

I used to be a Star Wars fan and honestly Disney Star Wars has been so bad I just don't care anymore and have lost interest. I'm still up for playing Star Wars games if they look interesting but I'm done with the TV/movie stuff.

The first season also did have the benefit of being able to lean on the movie and heavily re-use elements from it in a way the other seasons didn't.

The other problem was that they did the big bad thing over and over, and then they announced when Season 6 started that the show would end after 8. And in Season 6 they started introducing elements that actually carried over into Season 7, which people figured was setting up for something bigger to end the show. Then they just cut off all those plot threads and they didn't really add anything to the show at all.

And now they've announced they're gonna be doing a Dexter: New Blood season 2... which I can't imagine anybody is going to watch... AND a Dexter prequel... where he is an adult (out of college, when he first starts working for Miami Metro)... and not played by Michael C Hall, of course. Hrm.

I think it was a bit of a stretch to fill so many episodes with the wedding but it was a fun idea and Cristin Milioti was a great addition to the cast.
It was so weird to see the show improve in its last season - which typically does not happen - and then torpedo itself right at the end especially when they practically already had the perfect ending written from the get go.

But I think Whedon's writing style, for better or for worse (I was not usually a fan but many obviously were) was a big part of his works and it may be easier said than done to replicate that. If that's the intention.
They do but the ideal way to play their games is on the original system imo, whereas with traditional systems it really doesn't matter matter. I have a 3DS and I would never choose to play a game on Citra vs the real thing, whereas with say the GameCube it makes little difference to me.
