The article is definitely and interesting train of thought on how to make the world a better place, yet I think the most important things to make the world a better place are still things that cost neither time nor money: empathy, love, kindness, humbleness, humility, charity. These things have been teached by nearly every religion for millennia and non-religions too, by generations of parents and parents' parents but we still forget these simple things. If we want them in life, we have to be the first to give them. If everyone gives, everyone receives.

Even though I saw the movies over 20 years ago when they originally aired and kept in touch with the lore in general, I never read the novels and always kinda regretted it, since I love the general lore and world of LotR like crazy. I got sick about a week ago and thought "This is it, now's the time!". I started reading them finally over the weekend and WOW, they are so nicely written, I don't know why I had such trouble starting them. The only thing - and I think that's what turned me away from them in the past - is, that I really had to manage my expectations regarding the pacing. I thought the story would play in Rivendell by page 70 or so, yet at that point Frodo, Pippin and Sam barely left Bag End lol I also never expected the first 30 pages to be an almost scientific telling of Hobbit and pipe-weed lore breakdown, but I actually enjoyed it in the end

Fitting for the whole "Veganuary" theme I've been cooking less vegetarian and more vegan recently, but it's not exactly by "choice", meaning "I wan't to cook vegan", but more because I cooked a lot more Asian style food recently. Right now I'm on the hunt for the perfect yet easy Udon or Tofu sauce. I experimented a lot with dark and light soy sauce and rice vinegar, mirin, maple sirup, peanut butter and stuff, but I've yet to find one that really blows me away. So if anyone has a good recipe for that, let me know.

Other than that I finally got myself a Tofu press and it's actually a lot more noticeable than I thought. I'm also crazy about adding a bit of Cornstarch to Tofu before frying it, it really makes it a lot more chewy.

All that experimenting also made me notice that most of the typical "healthy and quick" Instagram recipes are just shit. I don't wanna use sweeteners and protein powders right now, so 60% of the recipes I can't do anyway, and the rest of the recipes I've found interesting so far were really, really bad and I don't know how anyone actually enjoys them other because of their caloric and macro value lol Especially sweets and baked goods often taste extremely bland and / or have a really weird consistency. Guess I'm a lot more "Foodie" than "Fittie".

I felt exactly like you in my first playthrough! I was hugely frustrated at times with the loop aspect and also with the timing aspect of certain puzzles. For me it turned out to be that I just rushed too hard through the game, trying to find "the ending" or "the answer", whatever you wanna call it. But after taking more time, taking in the lore and using the waiting option at the starting campfire, things got a lot better. The loop just becomes a normal thing of "oh, is it time already", instead of "fuck, why is this happening NOW?".

I can highly recommend giving it another try with the mindset of "dying and looping is a central part of the game", it helped me a lot at least.

In my first playthrough, I've noticed that I rushed a lot of the game and actually missed some HUGE lore and plot points. I found the game to be good-ish, but when I was still feeling that there's a lot more to explore, I dove in again and really took my time exploring every nook and cranny. That was when I truly fell in love with the game. It's also hard to write about the game without giving away spoilers to accidental readers. Hypothesis ( ;-) ): The game can't be described as it deserves.

What I've noticed, as the game didn't click for me at first either, is you really have to take your time with it. Read into the lore, try to connect the dots and just enjoy exploring. I was frustrated with the (let's say) "roguelite/roguelike" aspect of the game, if you can call it that, but once I didn't rush from A to B to C constantly dying, I enjoyed the game a lot more. Once I got invested in the lore, the true love began :) I hope you can find ways to enjoy it at some point, I can just highly recommend sticking with it a bit longer

I've finally played Outer Wilds. I've not played the DLC yet, but the main game took me about 30 hours or so. What an amazing journey and what an amazing game. I don't even know why I haven't played it yet, since the game is right up my alley. But anyway, without spoiling anything this has been one of the most stunning and profound journeys I've taken in gaming. And the soundtrack is absolutely amazing too.

I also played some Dorfromantik I nice little city builder which is very peaceful and beautiful. The game is more like a puzzle, no trading, no fighting. Very calm music, it's more or less a relaxation therapy lol

Not learning a new instrument, but I've been playing instruments for about 20 years now and it's one of the most rewarding things I've learned in my life. Keep at it. It can help to go to some kind of teacher, but many instruments are also pretty doable without one. I also don't think music theory and sheet reading is all that important, although it makes things easier. I think training the ear is more important and also imo a lot more rewarding. Because picking up a melody and just being able to play it more or less instantly feels super good lol

I'm losing my mind a little bit. My dad starts chemo therapy in a few weeks, he's "fine" as far as having cancer goes, but we're still on edge of course. To get his mind off of things, we went on a short trip and I apparently brought home bed bugs with me, because my arm is completely bitten to shit now and it definitely looks like bug bites, even though I can't find any other signs. So now I have to deal with this shit. Money is tight as it is because I had to cut back hours at work because my dad needs a driver oftentimes. I'm still in therapy for all my other problems like anxiety and depressive phases, still nowhere near to actually lose weight I gained due to an eating disorder. It's just really overwhelming sometimes.

I really, really hope my dad get's through this okay and all the other shit starts to diminish too over time.

As a huge Conan-head I've been listening a lot to "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend" recently and I really like it. Conan, Sona and Matt are naturally funny, but the interviews with the guests are actually really intimate and often absolutely great. You can really feel that the guests are a lot calmer and less "I need to represent something here" so you get a lot of insight into creative processes and background info on certain TV shows, movies or songs / bands. Of course there's the odd sales pitch here and there but all in all it's a very easy going podcast.

On the opposite of easy-going is "Serial Killers" by Parcast. It's a weekly telling of a serial killers life-story, psyche and eventual downfall. It doesn't "endorse" or glorify the serial killers, it's a very neutral portrayal with a lot of insight into the psyche of the killers and oftentimes it shows the blatant failures by the police or FBI which could've shortened a lot of sprees.

Pretty often. Even more so with TV shows. I think it’s some kind of comfort for me to replay certain games or rewatch certain shows. With games like Baldurs Gate it’s even more extreme because here I want to see as many of the possibilities the game offers as I can. But I sometimes also replay games with a fixed story if it’s been a while and I forgotten some of the plot points already.

Interesting question. I think I only really „like“ bands where I generally like their music and most of their songs and albums. If I’d only like one album or a couple of songs, I don’t think I’d say that I’d like a band. On the other hand do I love bands, where I basically like all of their music and the personal behind the music.

Since I’ve only ever been a DM in real life I was super looking forward to playing a character based on the 5e ruleset. In all games I basically default to righteous good nature, so the logical choice was a Paladin, but as a race I took a Wood Elf woman named Caelynn Nailo. Like the hag said „Paladins are drier than a shit in the sun“ but so far I quite like it. Next I’m definitely gonna play a gnome or halfling rogue though - or I just play Astarion, but since I have him in my party it’s maybe not that interesting after finishing the game.

What changed massively for me is that I now spend 80% of my time lurking, instead of just posting whatever I felt like under every second post. Posts here are just way more interesting and the people here feel a lot more genuine and knowledgable, so I often don't feel like adding to the discussion - since there's an actual discussion going on, and not just mainly "who's writing the funniest quip"

This week I discovered Raoul Vignal, a france-based singer-songwriter with some amazing guitar work. Voicewise he reminds me a lot of Neil Halstead and a bit of Sun Kil Moon (although Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon sings a lot more nasally) but he stands out by an amazing style of fingerpicking and creative use of other instruments. My favourite song of his so far is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cX3UANdmEw
This is a more folksy, faster paced song of his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tluVaAGrT24

Other then that I have listened to the Pulse Live Album by Pink Floyd a lot this week. It's been ages since I've listened to it, but the solo of "Comfortably Numb" is still probably one of the greatest solos of all times, David Gilmour pours out so much feeling, it's kinda addicting.

I've noticed that people who really dig deep into their hobby or their art of choice definitely attract me. It doesn't really matter what hobby or what art (be it painting, music, writing etc.), but the attraction definitely gets stronger the closer the other person is to my hobbies. For example, I play instruments myself, so I often feel attracted to really good musicians, especially soloists, because I just know the amount of hard work and dedication that had to go into playing this good and I think it's this kind of commitment that attracts me.

Really depends. If I can return from the fast travel point to the location I was when I pressed the remote by pressing the remote again, the answer would be wildly different then when I can just press the remote to travel there but have to return on my own.

Scenario A would definitely be somewhere in Norway. I traveled through half of Norway back in 2021 and there are so many places I'd like to revisit time and time again.

Scenario B would probably be something like work, so can at least get rid of one daily commute and just have to deal with the commute back home lol
