I have one of these! My parents were kind of tech hipsters back in the day, and liked that it had its own CRT TV as part of the console. We didn't have many games but it was a fun thing for my brother and I to mess with for 20min or so at a time. It's pretty impressive how smooth the animations are and how responsive it is, but everything is black or white. They actually sold colored acetate screens you could put on the monitor for specific games so you could see some color. It was very impressive for its time, and certainly built to last seeing as how it still works the same as it ever did decades later.

Color vector displays would have been prohibitively expensive. They were exceedingly rare and were basically only ever used in extremely expensive specialized equipment - the most common usage that a person would likely see were a small handful of Atari arcade games.

But the Vectrex is actually an extremely simple system. The library of games have absolutely tiny ROM chips because there is no audio or graphics on them, so it's pretty easy to find a multicart with the entire officially released library on it. The simplicity is one of the things that I like about it; it's all off-the-shelf components that have been put together in a really novel way.

I haven’t paid close attention, but now all games are vector (as opposed to bitmap) games now, right? Even as displays remain pixel based.

If someone with rename powers could rename this to the DeArrow title that would be great, I don’t have it on my phone

Edit: Oh... it's a paid browser extension. Sorry, I'm not gonna pay to use an extension (or wait 24hrs for a free account) just for a title change. :P If you or someone else with the extension lets me know what the suggested title from that is, I can change the topic title to that though.

Either way, its title is "Vectrex - Game console from 1982". I think that's maybe a little too dry, but do with it what you will

Thanks. Yeah, that's pretty dry. So I changed the title to a combination of the two instead.

Hm, I’d rather see the clickbait than view a video that has a clickbait title without even realizing it. That just rewards shitty tactics.

I understand what you're saying, and agree in principle. But IMO the clickbait problem on YouTube is more YouTube's fault than it is the channel creators. The YouTube UI, recommendation algorithm, "personalized" notification algorithm, and simple human nature, is what makes clickbait so successful there. And as a result, it's supposedly almost impossible to survive, even as a reasonably high-quality channel, if they don't use at least somewhat clickbaity titles and thumbnails. The reason for that being that everyone is forced to compete for the limited attention of YouTube's fickle audiences against all the shitty channels that have no qualms about using incredibly misleading clickbait titles, and obnoxiously over-the-top thumbnails... which is a tactic that, like-it-or-not, tends to draw the biggest views.

Linus of Linus Tech Tips, Derek of Veritasium, Tom Scott, and a bunch of other creators behind higher quality channels have talked about this clickbait = views problem on YouTube, and why it's unfortunately led to them being stuck utilizing somewhat clickbait titles and over-the-top thumbnails, since every time they have tried to stop using them, their views have plummeted. :/

And also worth noting is that here on Tildes we often edit topic titles to remove the more egregious clickbait elements in them. It's not done to reward the clickbait, or hide the fact that the submission creator was utilizing clickbait, but because leaving them as-is can mislead people about what the submission is really about, can potentially help spread misinformation, and it also tends to derail serious discussions about the substance of the submission's contents since people often end up arguing/debating over the title instead. So while I agree that clickbait shouldn't be rewarded, leaving clickbait titles as-is here on the site has other deleterious effects that simply aren't worth it, IMO.
