Portal: Revolution is an unofficial fan-made modification to Portal 2
Due respect to the effort this took, and I will definitely look forward to playing it. But I was really let down that this is not a portal sequel. I was watching the whole trailer hoping for some new game mechanics.

Don't forget Portal Stories: Mel! While the writing of P1/P2 are near unbeatable, the fan made mod that is Mel has my favorite gameplay, incredible voice acting and music, and a very solid plot line. For these reasons, I favor it even slightly more than the originals. For the low low price of free.

Got to the start of the third chapter. It's pretty in depth for a mod. The design language is a little different with more wide open areas and bottomless pits than the original chambers. It also makes an interesting choice with portal mechanics with only giving you the blue portals for much longer than the original game and building a significant amount of the puzzles around things you can do when the orange gate is locked into place. This was also the maiden flight of the Steam Deck I got off eBay and it certainly works as advertised. Battery is a little short, but it works nicely as a platform, at least with this game.
I just got my steam deck two days ago and I was also hoping to play it on there! Good to hear that it works well. Dave the Diver was my first steam deck game and it's great so far. Talos Principle...

Dave the Diver was my first steam deck game and it's great so far. Talos Principle 2 didn't run great on deck but I hear it doesn't run great on desktops either.

After some more time with it, I don't think it really holds up long term. The hook was great, and the game looks beautiful, but once you get past the novelty of the new areas and a couple fun techniques and mechanics, it's a whole lot of playing the hits and retreading ground. Story and game layout borrows heavily from 2, and there's a lot of circling around to solve puzzles.
Example level solution in Chapter 3
There's a bit with acceleration gel where you run into a wall portal to shoot up and out of a floor portal, then place a portal on an incline while in midair to fall back into your floor portal to fling yourself across the area. Neat, but the game lets you correct in the air, so if you kept pressing forward when you're in the air, you're still moving forward, meaning you overshoot the floor portal and can't perform the fling. You finally get it right, and you got to press a button, then go back to where you started and do it again to finish the test.
Overall Thoughts (Story and Design Spoilers)
Introducing the Surface was neat, with it's gigantic open air test chambers. Navigating to the spire was neat since you could cut through and sequence break your way in and out of old decrepit test tracks. But once we get to the Spire, it goes beat for beat with Portal 2, from being sent down to Old Aperture because your companion didn't have your best interests in mind, a new ally who has a connection to the Aperture of yore, a character reveal about how the two are connected, spending the rest of the game getting back to where you were and listening to their one sided conversations, and a big old boss fight where the two banter on while you have to solve momentum puzzles on a timer. Portal 2 has incredible voice talent and nails the ending, but Revolution is limited in it's execution as a fan mod and ends in a way that isn't much of an ending. Your character is blowed up too bad and needs to go back into stasis, presumably so Portal 2 can happen.
All and all, it's a good showcase of their modifications to the engine and some of the levels are pretty fun, but it's not Portal 2 all over again.
I'll wait to read the spoilers but thanks for the review! I'll probably still play it and just put it down if it's not getting my attention then. Especially if you're saying it doesn't "get...

Thanks for the game review. I'll give it a go!

This is a free to play, fan made mod, not an official sequel.
Ohhhh. That explains so much, thank you. That puts it in a totally different light.
