Trimming The Herbs, the last uncleared level of Mario Maker 1, has been confirmed to be a hacked level by the creator (was done via TAS) This means that Mario Maker 1 is officially 100% cleared!!...

Yeah it's a bit of a mixed emotion because we could've celebrated the last dance clear as the true finale had we known earlier. I get why the creator felt uncomfortable coming forward about it though. Not only would they have rained on everyone's parade but they'd sully their reputation. Plus there was starting to be drama over the level too and the community was getting bitter over it. I'm glad they spoke up.
As for 101%, yeah some people are still trying to grind it. The level is theoretically possible (it was cleared with TAS tools but didn't break the rules of the game or use impossible inputs), it's just insanely hard.

Glitch details
In this case, there was a glitch called the "double entity glitch", where it was possible to give a tile the properties of 2 items at once, which was later patched. Mario Maker also let you playtest levels while offline, then upload them the next time you were online. So you could play the game offline and do the glitch in version 1.0, update to the latest patch (where the patch made the level unbeatable), then upload the level. Ceave was able to post 2 levels with this glitch, but luckily took them down because he didn't want to ruin the non-skip 100 Mario challenge.
Is it possible any of the remaining levels use such glitches and kill this effort?
Nintendo has been pretty good about removing levels that don't play fair or are unbeatable due to an update. It's plausible that one of them snuck through the cracks, but everything left seems...

As predicted, Trimming The Herbs is going to be the last wall. How funny is it that the toughest nut to crack wouldn't be some insane 5 min long speed run level but a mere 15 second level. There...

There are multiple bounties on it as well if I recall correctly. Really hope the team pulls through on this historic feat.
Also imagine for a second if chaimchompbraden had managed to upload Trials of Death onto the official servers before they shut down. Maybe the team would have thrown in the hat instantly lol.
I just checked the site again on a whim earlier after a few days and was surprised to see it was down to one, didn't realize the penultimate one was just cleared recently. Here's a short breakdown...

This means that Mario Maker 1 is officially 100% cleared!! The final level cleared is thus Last Dance. This has all been updated on the site
Huge props to team 0%!
Little bit of a mixed feeling on this, but I appreciate the author coming clean.
Are people going to try for 101% at this point or is job done?

Here's a short breakdown of why Trimming the Herbs is difficult too.
