Breaking: Bethesda Game Studios workers have unionized. Not the same as the QA union. This time it’s “wall to wall”… “241 developers including artists, engineers, programmers and designers”, per the CWA. And they say Microsoft has recognized the union.

Why do organizations like this still make these kinds of announcements on X and not some other platform that isn't overrun with neo-Nazis?

Wait, there's a QA union? That would explain some things.

I think you lost me there, what would it explain?

Not an endorsement of these views, but to explain: It's a jab at Bethesda Softwork's reputation for having buggy games. And I suppose also that if their QA is unionized then they must work even less hard at identifying problems before launch, since there's a whole thing about union labor not being as time efficient.

Actually, the union stereotype I was basing my joke on was that unions can insulate incompetent members from remedial action or dismissal, which is a real problem with unions, though not to the extent that critics would have us believe.

Ultimately, my comment was something of a shitpost though, and I'm not terribly proud of that. But the posts here lately have seemed so crushingly depressing and the comments so dour that I wanted to see just a little levity, so I went ahead with it anyway.

I believe what the person you were replying to was hoping for was to get the person who made the original statement to be straightforward in peddling broad stereotypes as opposed to just trying to slide in some implications. Everyone knows what they probably meant by it, but an opportunity was being offered to clarify in case they weren't just trying to be snide.

Perfectly put, i have my suspicions, but I don't want to assume, especially on tildes. And sometimes it turns out that it's something completely different from my assumption.

Thank you, that's kinda what i assume, and you put it very well. I finns it very hard to discuss with someone that only implies things.

The only game that Bethesda has released since the QA union was formed is Starfield, and that was scarcely eight months afterwards. It does not explain anything.

And Starfield had a relatively bug free launch. If anything, there's evidence that the union is working.
