Oh wow, good for Hopoo! Duncan and Paul seem really good together. They're able to turn abstract ideas into solid gameplay, basically through constant iteration. Risk of Rain started with some funny sketches in a notebook yet turned into a really fun and novel game. Definitely one of the early and influential roguelikes.

I didn't know they were working on a new game. I wonder if they'll show prototypes or design docs of Snail at some point. Also interesting coincidence since the YouTube essayist AesirAesthetics is working on a game of the same name. I assume no relation...

Hopefully we hear more about Paul and Duncan's work in the future, and they're not swallowed up into the Valve machine like Campo Santo was.

I LOVED the original risk of rain, hopped on Risk of Rain Returns really fast and it's been one of the reasons I love Roguelikes so much. With how they designed Risk of Rain 2 and how each character feels unique and different, I'm really hoping they just go all in on Deadlock!

If by "influential roguelikes" you mean it was one of the first video games to market itself as a "roguelike" because it happened to include procedural-generation-something-somewhere and, gasp, consequences for dying

I'll go back to my grump cave now
