I have now implemented what should be a proper fix for the server connection issues some players experienced. I set up a haproxy EC2 instance that routes around the bad hops and acts as the MC endpoint. Hacky, but cheaper than other hosting options and better than hosting locally.

I am not playing on this server as I am in one with some IRL friends on a measly Realms server, but I have to say, this server's been an inspiration. I check the thread every week to see what you guys come up with and sometimes build upon those ideas. @teaearlgraycold seems like a great admin, too. Have fun!

I haven't had much time to play this week. But I have started work on the last leg of the road towards the PVP arena. I still need to figure out how to connect the last bit.

Heads-up: I'm currently working on a blue ice "boatway" at bedrock level between the village, @Noox's area, and Shroomlandia. I'm currently digging the staircase next to the blue line (perpendicular to it) so I apologise for any temporary ugliness or inconvenience.

Reason is I tend to crash a lot when moving between dimensions & my slow internet makes flying with an elytra a game of russian roulette, so this sounds like a lovely choice instead.

    (P.S. Nooxie, we miss you)

Edit (September 29th 2024): I've now dug a tunnel and staircase from the village to Noox's area. Haven't placed ice yet.

I finished building the community stables right beside the transit hub. Feel free to claim a stall if you want. There is also the communal pasture outside, with horses to breed. I am hoping to get around to breeding some fast horses in there. My goal for this was to provide a convenient spot for your horse if you are leaving town by a metro line. I wanted to make it so that there are viable alternatives to get around town that isn't using an elytra.

For those who like to use mods, I found another really amazing one called Bridgify Mod. It let's you place blocks like in bedrock edition, which means you can place blocks underneath the block you're standing on, or you can place blocks in front of you similar to how you can with scaffolding. Hard to explain with words, but makes building way easier!

I think that feature is available in Tweakeroo as I've seen SciCraft members use it, but never got around to doing so myself.

But in all seriousness, that blows hard, and I'm going to test a few old laptops I have around to see if one would be a real MVP (Minimum Viable Product) for you!

Okay, I thought I bricked my old laptop but I have it back online. It's a little screwy (touchpad not always working) but it should work just fine otherwise.

When I re-assembled it I reapplied the thermal paste. But the only stuff I had on hand was liquid metal. I applied too much and it shorted out some stuff around the GPU :| But I cleaned that up and surprisingly it's not permanently fried!

So I'll ship that out in a few days.

So I found out that my laptop has diagnostic tools if I hit Esc during startup. I ran a fan test and it said cpu fan 1 passed, but cpu fan 2 failed. There isn't a second cpu fan in the manual, but there is the gpu fan. So I swapped out the gpu fan as well (kit I bought came with both luckily), then I ran diagnostics again. This time cpu fan 1 failed when it got to the max fan speed part of the test, but cpu fan 2 passed. I watched the fans during the tests, and both seemed to be operating fine. I haven't had a chance to do a test running minecraft cause I had to leave for work, but when I booted into windows my cpu speed was back to normal again. So who knows what events will unfold in this chaos. I don't feel confident.

Edit: Yeah, still running hot. HP doesn't seem to have any driver updates that might be relevant. I'm out of ideas other than maybe it being a Windows issue.

Edit 2: So maybe it's fixed? I lowered my chunk render distance from around 30 down to 20, and I uninstalled a few mods I added recently. My temps still spike to around 80 when I first boot minecraft, but it's been cooling back down to below 70 most of the time with only occasional spikes up to 80. Still seems hotter than it should be, but I set my fans to be always on in the BIOS settings, so I'm not sure there's anything else to do but hope it keeps working.

I'm still having a blast building massive production facilities in Satisfactory, but I imagine I'll want to hop on Minecraft again very soon.

Oef, the one about having build and lived an entire lifetime in a couple of weeks really resonates with me. It is exactly how I experienced this server so far and past servers as well. The previous server I was a bit late so it felt a bit more detached, but the feeling was still there.

Thank you for sharing the video!

Is there a need for a larger piglin bartering farm? I said I was going to tackle the project, but I haven't needed any of those materials, so I've been procrastinating. If there are folks out there who are in need of those materials, I can take care of it. It'll be a good break from my tower/landscaping.

I used the existing setup to get a ton of gravel and I feel like it works well enough that we don't necessarily need a better setup, but having the loot auto sort would be nice. It wouldn't be too hard to add autosorting to the existing machine. Having said that, if you think you'd have fun building a new one, go for it.

Would we be able to access the new wood type/biome on the current server? Since the world's pre-generated, there'd be nowhere for the new biome to generate, right?

Culling unused chunks is probably better storage-wise - we should be able to cull and regenerate any chunks that weren't used by anyone for, say, more than 5 or 15 minutes, and are outside the dynmap's range. Maybe excluding chunks around Evie's base just in case, as it's slightly outside the dynmap.
