Overall, my stance is that this sure was a collection of games. Porting old stuff that may have been locked to old hardware is cool. Remaking stuff that was already playable on existing hardware is a little weird. Showing more news on upcoming games is expected. The only real fireworks in this show is Ghost of Yotei, but those are some pretty good fireworks.
I'm so excited for Ghost of Yotei!!! I'm actually working through GoT right now (just finished Act 2 tonight). Between that and Ass Creed Shadows, I'll definitely have my samurai fill for the next few years, ha.
As a mega fan of Horizon, I kind of don't care bout the zero dawn remaster or Lego Horizon. If I go back to play the games, I'm gonna play Forbidden West again (I like the ZD setting and story more, but the FW gameplay is obviously better). I like that the upgrade is there for people who have yet to try the series, though! And while I've enjoyed Lego games in the past, this one looks a bit on the kid oriented side. Maybe reviews when it comes out will surprise me.
I'm putting ArcheAge Chronicles on my watch list, at least.
Very excited for new Astro Bot speedrun levels!
And even more Veilguard gameplay! It looks to be shaping up quite well in my eyes, at least. In the past couple weeks, that game went from off my radar (I'm a massive BioWare fan, so I couldn't afford to actually be excited for it after the last couple of their games) to the top of my want list for the year.
On Horizon, my stance is that it just seems really unnecessary. PS4 games aren't locked to the console because of backwards compatibility, and the game has a perfectly fine steam port. Sony is selling the game to an audience that just already has that game. It's not like the base version a bad looking, is a slightly more polished version really worth spending money on? The playstation blog is listing it as $9.99, so it's not a bad deal. The customer isn't getting fleeced here, but I find it hard to quantify how "enhanced" of an experience you are actually getting.
Yeah, I’m just sick of everything getting remastered these days. On one hand it is nice to have some older games updated to play on modern hardware and look up to date, but with some games that are getting the remaster treatment, it just seems unnecessary. Yeah Zero Dawn isn’t the best looking game on the market in 2024, but it definitely already looked good enough. Not to mention whatever is going on with the last of us games. Developers can spend their time on whatever they want to, I don’t mean to sound like a whiny gamer, it just feels the remasters are endless lately and becoming less necessary.
Is it actually getting remastered though? Or are they just porting the improvements of the PC version? I only briefly glanced at the trailer.
They did actually re-record dialogue and redo some motion cap in addition to upgrading character models and making graphical improvements basically everywhere. So it is a legit remaster.
GoT was a really great game. I enjoyed it way more than I expected to. Definitely looking forward to the sequel.
I'm genuinely curious what you see in Dragon Age. Because I must be missing something then since so far nothing has looked interesting about that game. This trailer was the best so far and it still looks mid.
No ill intent meant. Genuinely curious.
Well, I’ll have to wait for reviews to know if it actually came together fully, but thus far, the characters and story look promising, the environments are beautiful (I do like the style they’re going for) and I personally like that they’re going a more action combat route over tactical combat. It probably won’t be the best game I’ve played all year, but it definitely looks up my alley. I really enjoy having companions in RPGs that I can fight with, talk with, and otherwise interact with on my adventure (like mass effect, dragon age, BG3), so I’m probably going to find something I love in the game even if it turns out to be somewhat mid.
Skill Up’s preview he released last week goes over as many systems as he can in depth and it very much changed my mind on the game from trying to ignore it unless it’s good (so I’m not disappointed) to really looking forward to it.
I'm surprised that Zero Dawn would even warrant a remaster. Admittedly I played it on PC but it's one of the most graphically beautiful games I've ever played, from the landscapes to the character models and so on. What exactly needs remastered? It surely seems fully unnecessary.
I can only imagine the risk of a new IP is so scary to investors they're really just doing anything they can to take anything numerically succesful and +1 it.
I agree, the odd thing is that they have Bloodborne sitting right there. I expect it would sell very well after Elden Ring's success.
They've waited so long to do anything with Bloodborne, the PS4 emulators are already close to getting the game running on PC, heck even with 4k 60fps and graphical improvement mods. They have to KNOW how badly people want this game native to modern platforms in 60fps, the fans are taking great effort to remaster it themselves and mention it on every social media thread when Sony does something else. Does a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster involving re-recording all that mocap and dialogue really bring in more money for the effort than a Bloodborne remake? Yeah especially after Elden Ring, they should've seen dollar signs in their eyes and cashed in on a quick and dirty 60 FPS patch on PS5 or SOMETHING.
Whoa! I didn't see the Lunar Remastered Collection buried in that list, and just heard about it. That theme song immediately brought back a flood of nostalgia. What a wonderful feel-good JRPG—The music and voice acting can't be forgotten, and they're just a little campy which makes it more lovable. It sounds like they may have a new voice cast based on the theme song vocals, but it sounds pretty true to the original English dub.
Gematsu reports it's coming out Spring 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
I am appreciative that there is seemingly an endless number of beloved jrpgs with cult followings. People having genuine love for a product is always the best advertisement. Now if I only had the time to play the 30+ remasters people have sold me on this year.
